I really liked the concept and cute presentation. I do wish there were like WASD controls to move the camera so that I could move the platforms and look around freely. I really liked being able to just flip the train to get it to stop. This was a great game!
Thanks alot for giving it a try! :D
I really like the idea of WASD to move camera instead of using the mouse for both handling the platforms and the camera
It feels REALLY clunky at the moment. But now that I think about it, WASD would be much better!
Ill def implement it (might leave the mouse controls as optional)
And Im glad that you enjoyed the game :)
Controls are a bit clunky, but what a great jam game! Love the concept and presentation, just needs some polish on the moment to moment gameplay. Keep it up!
Thanks alot for giving it a try! :D
I agree about the controls, especially when u are dragging the platforms. The camera can be a real ass to control xD
Ill try some stuff and hopefully fix all the stuff I got for feedback soon!
this is so silly i love it
i love the transition/loading of the train going by, and the menu buttons being carts
i love that there's no punishment for this, if you flip over you can just fling it back up, the game doesn't restart on it's own
it's also fun that i could just,,block them by shoving a platform in front like a wall
this very much felt like being a kid playing with toys and i enjoyed it a lot, wonderful job !
OMFG FINALLY!
This is exactly the kind of feeling I wanted the player to experience, if you mess up.. I wont punish you, you still have a chance to fix it. Like however bad of a position u are in, you can still try fix it
This was kinda inspired from celeste, if you've played it or been in the community a bit, there's a popular meme about how the player can fall from the easiest jump and then instead of dying, trying their best to fix that situation and the game wont punish you unless you die (Not the same concept but thats where I got the inspiration from)
(From a friend who tested the game for me lmao)
In my to do list, I had a task for adding death when the train is upside down, I also planned to fail the level if the train collided with a wall
But I found it much more fun to just flick the train trying to get it back right side up xD
I initially wanted to restrict alot of stuff like that, but just being able to do everything was much better!
I love the way you put it into words "this very much felt like being a kid playing with toys and i enjoyed it a lot, wonderful job !"
That is exactly how it was meant to be!
The physics and all isnt perfect AT ALL, I truly agree that the train feels way too bouncy. The way it feels way too light wasnt intended (I just got tired of stuff not working and that was the closest to what I wanted so just stuck with it) but the mechanic of being able to throw it around WAS intended
I truly appreciate the review and m glad that you got to experience it the way I envisioned!
Thanks alot for giving it a try :D
if you added all those restrictions it would definitely be a completely different game, and in my opinion, stand out way less from other entries (and games outside of the jam in general)
that type of game isn't bad, but i feel like there's an overabundance of them, and something where you just get to have fun is very refreshing
in general i feel like when people make games they tend to put in certain mechanics / rules because it's the "standard", but when you think through what each detail would feel like and how it impacts the game you can get a lot more intentional with how you want people to experience your game (all art in general honestly)
everything you put into a game or choose to leave out is a choice you make that will bring the end product closer to what your vision is
that's why i think there's rarely a thing as a "bad game", the game might just not be the experience you were looking for, but it doesn't make it bad game design if you leave out a feature people see as common (punishing your failures for example), it's the opposite even, it's good game design because you took an element, sat with it, and thought okay this doesn't serve my purpose, and that requires a lot more thought
bad game design is one that produces an experience you weren't aiming for, and clearly you nailed showing the experience you wanted
for me it felt really nice to control and physics looked intentional, obviously i don't know what the vision was, but what i ended up experiencing was great
one tiny bug i think i found, was when i was hovering over a platform i was about to click, it got highlighted, but if there was a second platform of the same type in the level it would get highlighted as well
i noticed this on the last level, it could just be how the asset was duplicated or something, not sure how your creation process was, it didn't detract from the game, just thought you might want to look into it if you plan to update later
overall, great job with everything, and i wish you the best of luck on any future project, nice to see you on the jam again :]
I truly agree with everything you said!
I appreciate you taking the time with the feedback :D
For the bug u mentioned bout hovering, I noticed it very late and just let it be cuz it wasnt really a priority and didnt affect anything else.
I think its probly the shader thats causing it. Ill look into it tho, thanks for the report :D
Will be expecting to see u in the next micro jam aswell!
yooo this game is so cool! the pixel art, the music and overall feel is pretty good! our games realy are similiar(just that yours is way better executed xddd) :)
Eyy, Thanks alot for giving it a try :D
I cant take credit for the music or the sfx lmao as all of it came from pixabay
And dont you be downplaying your game, The platform control was WAY better implemented in yours lmao. Here it not being grid based really creates alot of problems and not to mention the fact that some platforms like teleport along the walls if are being in contact with them xD
Its a buggy mess lmao
But Im glad that you enjoyed it! :D
This game is the best game I've ever played in the jam. I would play it if it had a longer version with pixel art and a really good theme. :)
Eyyy, Im glad that you enjoyed it soo much :DD
I really appreciate your kind words!
I cant say this was as good of a game as u name it xD as there are some other gems in this jam which I loved alot. But really do appreciate the complements :D
I don't think I can call this "Fun" imho, but I have seen you had a lot of effort making this, so keep going!
(Also even after reading the rules I was still stuck lmaooo)
Thanks alot for giving it a try! :D
Well I cant be glad that u didnt enjoy but really appreciate the honest opinon :)
If there was anything specific that you didnt like or a feature u wanted, Id love to get your suggestions/feedback
For the rules, I really need to get better at writing them.. I just gave the game a try after submitting and realised the horrible way I had worded the whole thing.. Not to mention the amount of paras I wrote
Thats why I added the imp stuff in the description hoping it'd help
Also noticed the typos I made in writing the whole thing 馃槶
will have to fix that up with a small patch xD
Very fun game! Controls were fun. In many other similar games from this jam, you hit a run button and watch it play out, but I think moving the platforms while it is running is more fun!
The different styles of art was a little strange, you could make it more consistent by making the steam engine particle effects pixelated like the rest of the art. Very cool game!
Thanks alot for playing it!!
Im glad you had a good time with it :D
Tbh I initially had pixelated steam in mind but I just forgot about it after trying this out, Ill give pixelated steam a try tho
Btw, Im not the best artist, so just wanted to ask if there was anything else that stood out like the steam?
I didnt even notice how much the steam stands out before u mentioned it, so would love to get your opinion :)
No, most of the art was good, it was just the steam I think that was inconsistent with the rest of the art. It doesn't really matter, but coherent art style can make games look better
The game was super fun I loved to mess around the train and pass it through objects to beat some levels also hehe the idea to use physics was awesome. And the idea of the theme and prerequisite was implemented very well. There is just one small thing sometimes i cant move the camera but still 10 train stations out of 10.
Thanks alot for giving it a try :D
M glad that u enjoyed it!
For the camera, I think i know what happens. when u touch an edge, the camera for some reason goes a bit beyond the limits I set and when u try to go the opposite direction, it takes a bit of time to come back in the frame and move the other direction. I managed to minimize that bug but it still seems to be there, Ill try to fix it with a patch :D
That was very cute ! :)
I ended up mostly slamming the train around, because it was easier, but that was fun haha. I liked the tutorial, it was pretty funny (although I DID read the controls, heh). I would've liked to be able to zoom out a bit more, though, but it's not a big deal.
Oh, and I kept having this weird bug where, when the train was on the revolving rails and got off early, it was stuck mid rotation.
Overall, it was a really cool take on the themes, great job ! :)脿
Ngl I didnt expect anyone to read the controls
I added them last minute in the levels itself cuz a few friends who tried it wouldnt stop complaining cuz they didnt know what to do xD
The train being too bouncy has been a sort of complaint by alot of people but I wanted to use that bounciness, it isnt perfect but its close.
Like in level 3 u need to bounce it up to get it to the end. I now wish I used it a bit more
About that bug, I havent experienced it myself yet so I cant really tell what was going on but Ill try to fix it (Id appreciate if u could explain more as to how u got it)
And thanks alot for giving it a go and the detailed review! Really appreciate it :D
oh yeah, I wasn't complaining about throwing the train around, I think it is a fun mechanic that works well and that is works well ! :)
The bug I mentionned tends to happen when the train was on the revolving tracks, that I was using to throw the train around (maybe when triggering the train rotation while it is already rotating ? I'm not sure)
Really liked the train physics! Awesome game
Thanks alot (agiain) for giving it a try XD
Really liked the train physics! Awesome game
Thanks alot for giving it a try :D
Great Game! The art is really well done. I enjoyed shaking the tracks to fling the trains into the air. The music is also really good.
Thanks alot for giving it a try!
Glad you enjoyed it :D
I really like the vibes, of the menu screen especially!
I got stuck on the second level, I think my viewport got messed up or something didnt spawn right :u
I havent encountered any viewport related bugs till now so Im not sure about that, Id appreciate if u could elaborate a bit more on that
But on how to beat the level. The level end is on the left side, so you gotta take the train to the direction changer rail (on the right) and then carry it back to the level end on the bottom left.
Tbh its not the very intuitive to look for the level end part, I definitely should make it more obvious as to where the level end is located.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated :)
Yeah ok so what happened was, I didn't read the part of using the middle button to pan sorry 馃槄
Itd be better if the screen like followed the x position of the train within certain bounds or something, i was playing on a trackpad (i know i know) so it was kinda too much to manage both the track and the scrolling at the same time :p
Ahh sry about that, I cant imagine playing this on a trackpad xD
I intentionally made it so u have to hold MMB or RMB to pan across cuz without that is the camera panned automatically, it was hard to control the platform and it felt very clunky. So I gave the player full control of when they wanted to pan and thus made it bold both in the controls panel and the description xD
Btw ya, u can use RMB to pan aswell, probly still wont be the best with a trackpad but might make it feel better!
Also i really appreciate the in depth feedback! Thanks alot :D
The game is awesome! The main menu and level transitions are really neat :D
The only problem I have, is that the trains are way too bouncy and rotate too easily which also makes me able to juggle the trains to their destination instead of using my brain haha.
Thanks alot for trying the game out!
Im glad u enjoyed your time playing it :D
I agree that the trains are a bit TOO bouncy and can feel a lighter
I initially wanted to restrict alot of stuff like if the train hits a wall it'll explode or if it gets turned upside down it'll explode but while playing like this, i kinda enjoyed how u could recover from a seemingly ruined position and beat the level. It allows u to approach each level by different solutions.
However, it definitely needs to be balanced and toned down a bit.
Thanks again for the feedback! I really appreciate it :)
