Nice work, lots of fun bits of polish like the bullet casings. Echoing some other comments, the sfx were really loud, I liked the music but had to keep it down. The flying bugs were also… buggy, I’d kill one but even after death it would spawn one more set of projectiles. Like others, I struggled with the wall slide. I eventually got it but it always felt like an accident. Also not having fullscreen meant I sometimes right-clicked outside of the game which really stunted the action.
My favorite parts where shotgunning over pits and lava, would love to see more of it! The art was nice, though it made some other visual things feel flat, like destroying the walls; I expected some explosion fx instead of just disappearing.
Overall all I really enjoyed this, it’s fun to see a solid theme tying everything together.
Fun game. I loved the way when you shot, the casings bounced around on the ground and made noise. Really great detail.
I agree with the other comments that the wall slide was rough to use, because you had to swing your mouse up to use it after having it down to propel yourself into the wall. The gunshots were too loud and for half the game I didn't even realize the music, because I'd turned the sound down due to the gunshots being so loud. People said there were level shortcuts, but I just ended up at the tavern every time.
I liked being able to shoot things from a variety of angles. Made the game feel very six shooter centric. Great game overall. Thanks for making it!
Nice visuals, solid mechanics. I liked the shotgon dash a lot at first but the sound effects got a bit annoying with the amount you end up using it. The wall dash also was pretty finicky. It was very not obvious what switches were doing, often hit switches before I even saw the doors (I assume) they opened. Lack of checkpoints was kind of ok because of the level shortcuts but there really needed to be one after you get out of the mine. There was a f.inicky platforming section that required going over two pools of lava with a fully horizontal dash I died on 3 times and had to backtrack through the whole level to try again, ended up tapping out on the third try, I assume I was near the end of the game since I had all the powerups.
Overall great entry.
This character design is next level. Some neat enemy mechanics, too. And good use of level shortcuts! That's a rare one in jam games. If you polished up your backgrounds, added some slick game feel, more micro reward, some post-processing, bug fixing, and maybe more lore (because a world of cacti people is fun), I think you could make a commercial version.
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement :D
Enjoyable game! Movement felt a little sluggish, and the wall jump took a bit of work to get the hang of, but the idea of using gun-based movements at its core was fun — even more so when you use it to get out of bounds. ;)
Enjoyed playing! The wall jump wasn't very intuitive though, I kept either doing it when I didn't intend to or not doing it when I was trying. Otherwise pretty enjoyable! I like the art.
Love the game but it got too difficult for me at the end.
