Just wanted to ask real quick. I really love the little animation it does when you hover over and off the card. Can you tell me how you did it so nicely? I just cant seem to figure it out
Sure, are you working with Godot?
The plain hover is just a tween that gets exceuted when the card, which has a matching control node of the same size, is hovered (control_gui_input). This would also work with an Area2D.
vice versa the exit animation is also just a tween:
There’s actually a litte bit more too it as the cards “hover-areas” overlap so there is a bit of logic that handles that but the animation is just that simple.
I tend to create every animation with tweens as they are so versatile. The number counting in the UI, most movement and even parameterized shaders (like the background or the card flip) are created useing tweens.
If you want to dig deeper into the code base feel free to look at the repository I created for the jam: https://github.com/JBartscher/MiniBeansJam10/blob/813ec28b7f1d1b80b5c6e983e34625af1e67da0a/Game/GameObjects/Card/card.gd#L130
If you have any code related questions hit me up on the BeansJam Discord :)
Dman Thanks a lot! I tried using tweens and even did the TRANS_ELASITC one but it didnt come to my mind that i could also use the set_ease in the same line (or any lines below it). Thanks a ton for the detailed answer!
What an ambitious project! I can certainly see the appeal of a deck builder and I'd love to see what this concept will look like once it's a bit more worked out. I did end up breaking the game when I ran out of cards but couldn't end my turn. I also wasn't quite sure when my turn ended or began again so having a bit more instructions and cues would be nice.
🎯 Introduction
Let me start by saying — this is going to be a realistic review. That doesn’t mean I’m your hater or wish you bad things — quite the opposite. I genuinely wish you growth and success. You made this game in just two days — that’s impressive, dude! Keep making games!
🎮 Gameplay
I didn’t fully understand how to play. When I placed cards in the “Play” zone and clicked it, I received cards in my hand — but I couldn’t figure out why or how that worked. Also, after each shop phase, I was only allowed to play one card. Why that one in particular? I couldn’t understand the logic.
🎨 Visual Style
The background is a spinning spiral, and after a while, it started hurting my eyes. It became unpleasant to stay in the game for long. Since this game is about "sell → buy", such a background doesn’t feel like a good design choice. It distracts from the gameplay and worsens the experience.
🚀 Overall Impression
As a two-day jam project — this is honestly impressive. It would be great to:
make the card text more clear,
experiment with fonts,
improve the background,
and add a tutorial.
That alone would already make it a very promising prototype. I wish you success in your journey, the strength to overcome obstacles, and most importantly — don’t give up!
P.S.
Yes, I translated my review into English using GPT. I hope it conveys all the positive and realistic meanings I intended
Good luck!
Super lieb danke dir.
i like the concept, i actually think it could make for a really fun roguelite! the theme was on point 200%
i was a little confused by how the game was played though, at some point i ended up with so many cards in my hand that i couldn't really decide which one to play, it was just too much
the drawings on the cards where really nice!
Hey thank you very much! Yeah the Version which I initaly uploaded IS very bug ridden and duplicates cardss. I uploaded a newer Version which is a little bit cleaner :D
I really like your idea but I wish I could see everything from the screen xD Good work for a single dev in 2 days!
I wish the cards were a little bigger on screen as I couln't read them very well. XD
But I liked the idea and the grafics were really cool!
Nice work dude, congrats on finishing this in two days work as a single dev
