This must be my new drug, because it's ridiculously addictive.  You are making it difficult for me to review other games!!!  Nice graphics, fun gameplay, good puzzling effort on your part!

Notes:

  • Something is wrong with level 10. The game will not acknowledge the number of princesses I have rescued and  an attempt to restart the level left me with a starting score of -4.  I was unable to continue from that point.

So clever! I’d play hundreds of levels of this if they existed :)

If you keep working on it, consider animating the movements. Even just a frame or two could go a long way toward leading the eye and making it feel less jumpy.

Developer

Thank you! That really means a lot, I'm glad you liked it. For sure, animated movements would definitely help out, thanks for the feedback.

What a fantastic  concept! Played through the whole thing and loved every minute. I would pay for this on Steam.

Wow thank you, I think that's the best compliment I could get! Really means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I completed all the levels, I like the music during the ending cutscene.

The game could have been found on an old NES cartridge, it perfectly looks, sounds and plays like a NES game. I can't state that enough as with some other entries which kind of do I can't help but wonder if what's happening on the screen would be as smooth on an actual console, here I have 0 doubt it would work exactly the same, I think it's one of the strongest games of the jam in that regard. And I like how it looks, I like how it sounds and I like how it plays. The game mixes well known mechanics into a unique one which is very fun to apprehend and works very well. I'll reiterate that it's exactly a mechanic you could have find on an NES cartridge, and the levels make good use of it.

I faced the negative princess thing a couple of times which was confusing the first times but eventually didn't matter much as what might take time is figuring out to beat a level (although in practice it never gets that hard) but never executing it. Also if I'm getting harsh I would say I was left hungry for more as the game ends before you gets to face one proper hard puzzle which gives you hard time, but what I got was already very fun.

Great one!

Thanks for such a detailed comment! I'm glad I hit the NES feel well, I've never attempted anything in this style before so it's good to hear it worked. Yeah that negative princesses bug really sucks, I agonised for hours trying to fix it and mostly did (it used to be a lot worse than it is now!) but I still couldn't fully iron it out. I'm hoping I can find a solution if I come back to the project after voting ends. I'm glad you were hungry for more, that's really encouraging! I was really uncertain on the difficulty of the levels because I knew them so well and hadn't got any other playtesters, though in general I wanted to keep things relatively simple for the jam, but if I decide to make more in the future I'll definitely increase the difficulty as the levels progress. Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it.

This one was very fun! Love the twist on your classic Snake game, I appreciate that it actually requires some brainwork and thinking ahead. The only problem I had with it was the audio being to one side, and that's not really much to complain about. The graphics, gameplay, everything about it fit the vibe of an NES game perfectly-- stellar work! (And here's to maybe getting more levels later down the line?)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! The thing about the audio is a shame, I didn't encounter that in my testing, what device were you playing with? More levels is definitely a possibility for the future, I feel like there is a lot more I could do with the concept given more time to explore it. Glad you enjoyed it

I was playing in browser through Firefox on my Windows 10 PC! I figured it wasn't intentional-- could have been a very unfortunate bug on my end, I'll have to check again later once I'm freed up!

Cool snake-like. I did encounter the issue with princesses numbers going negative.

Developer

Omg, it's the chicken guy! Yeah, the negative numbers issue really bugged me for hours but I still couldn't figure out the cause. I'm hoping that having a look at the code with a fresh set of eyes after voting will help me figure out how to fix the issue

What a fun and creative game! It reminds me of Prickle, with a snake-y twist.

Developer(+1)

I've never heard of Prickle before but I just had a look at it on steam and it looks right up my alley, thanks for mentioning it! Definitely will check it out when if it goes on sale. Glad you enjoyed my game :D
