At first, I was like, "this game doesn't the theme, and it started kinda like all the fantasy type stories I read and played" but it gets better as it goes on. This is not your typical Fantasy story but playing on common tropes to make an original story.
I think if this story is developed more, with a lengthier gameplay you could have a gem here.
I'm jealous of the writing and the pacing this game has. Even with the default assets, I find this game more engaging and gut wrenching than some games out there with better graphics. You should be proud of what you managed to cook up in such a short period of time. Please make more games!
A solid submission for a game jam game - I like the overall pacing of the story and the twist ending as well as all the setup and pay offs throughout the story! My biggest pet peeve was that many choices were not actually choices at all: I was simply choosing if i was continuing the story or ending the story early. If you plan to work on this after the jam, I would look into branching paths and perhaps different story outcomes to flesh out the narrative. Congrats on getting your game finished and submitted!
I enjoyed the deconstruction of the fantasy JRPG genre and the multiple branching paths were interesting! I'm also a big fan of twists in narrative driven games, and I was happy to see that there were several here~ Combat was a little straight forward (aside from when it was used to further the plot) and I wish there were some additional assets used besides the RTP. I would also comb through the dialogue for spelling and grammar errors. Overall, a fun and enjoyable experience!
It was pretty good, I think the battles could have used a bit of balancing as I just held the spacebar through all of them, but I like the interesting story paths!
