I think the game is fairly well balanced and the visuals feel very arcade-y!

I found troublesome that when leveling up, the UI pops up allowing you to interact with it instantly. This can cause the player to accidently click an upgrade that was undesired. (which happened to me more than once :P) Adding a second, "confirm" button is always a good way to make sure that doesn't happen.

Otherwise I've got nothing to say, solid jam entry!

Thanks for the review! I never really thought of that since you can hold down the mouse. I'll know for next time.

Oh!!! You can Hold DOWN the mouse... :O

Very cool visuals give such a vibe, the music is also at a high level. The restrictions and the theme are 100% correct. Great work!!!

Great music, great style, super neat use of the limitation. Great game! I only got through two waves on normal. I'm... kind of bad at this. Fun anyway, though!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The games balancing is pretty bad... So that's probably why you didn't get far!

I played to about level 23 I think. Really cool, with some more features I could see myself playing this in my free time lol

Developer

Thanks a lot!!

I love the artstyle and all the different upgrades you could get. Great game!

Developer

Thanks, I would have loved to add more!

Wow I really enjoyed this one, the visuals and atmosphere are amazing. The only think would be some balancing of upgrades but for a game jam this is impressive. Well done!

Developer

Thanks a bunch! I did realize that I wouldn't have time to balance... I did try to nail the visuals as much as I can though!

Fun game, I love that art style and the mechanics are great too.

Developer

Thank you so much!

A lot of fun, ended up breaking it pretty hard on easy mode. New PB Final Score: 20,672,950 ('score 544,000'), waves survived 38. At that point I was basically searching for angel deals at that point so I could make my weapons worse, so they would be more effective (they start to break a bit at high numbers). Eventually I just got bored and ran into a bunch of purple pellets, disabling my weapon completely and confining me to the corners and died soon after. (There's a limit to how much move speed / shot speed / fire rate? is actually good.)

Balance wise, the +1 bullet scaling would have been pretty strong, but it seems to work exponentially? So that's  pretty busted on easy... though it does make the harder difficulties more playable. On the Angel side getting 50% health for -10% damage and -10% rof is pretty strong.

The interface art style and angel/devil deal parallels reminded me of Isaac quite a bit... Along those lines, there were certainly many times when I got a bad draw and would have rather skipped (maybe even with a small benefit attached like +10% health or +10% damage, for -5% of the other.)

Oh, and the powerup that says it bounces off enemies, never seems to actually do that... either it hits them and it destroyed from the collision, or you get piercing, and it pierces them instead of bouncing... It does bounce off walls though.

Music is quite nice, sound is a bit thuddy when you get overlapping / simultaneous bullet hits. Losing health for each shot is a pretty nice touch for the limitation. although it seems quite difficult to keep playing without grabbing the lifesteal, which sort of trivializes the mechanic if you choose to. The constant tradeoffs are very interesting in that same sense, though there are some that are definitely better than others, which makes for a nice bit of strategy I suppose.

Enemies are kind of generic, and some of them are difficult to distinguish from each other and some times it matters because they can have quite different attack patterns, Overall, very nice.

Thanks for the in depth reply! Looks like the balancing is pretty busted... But the one thing I did realize when uploading the game was the definition of those bouncy bullets. I dont know why I put it to say 'bounce off enemies' when clearly it was the walls. I should have added a reroll system, and a bunch more balancing but I kinda wasted half my time making a platformer ;-;

Solid gameplay loop, and gets pretty fun once you're in the swing of it. Can be very unforgiving if you miss a shot at low health, or get suddenly hit by an enemy (which feels unfair when they spawn on top of you). Music and visuals worked nicely, and kept the game feeling lively.

Could've used some light tutorialisation at the start, since for my first few runs I didn't realise I was using my own health to shoot and kept just suddenly dying. It also took me a while to figure out I could hold left click to fire, which finally stopped me from accidentally clicking into an upgrade choice when they appeared.

I liked the variety of upgrades on offer. The Devil's Hand always seemed to be the best option when I wasn't in need of health, and it was cool to be able to manage the drawbacks each level up. Overall a great entry!

Thanks so much! I did realize that enemies were a bit busted. I didn't have a ton of time to balance but I'm glad it turned out somewhat nice!

I think the concept is pretty cool, and the visuals are great. The balance is good, my only complaint about it is that enemy spawning could be more gradual. The game also lags a bit because of visuals, so maybe do some optimization! Great job, I had a lot of fun!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah my wave spawning script was a bit sloppy. Ill make sure to do that next time!

This is a fun game, I definitely love the art. There is quite a lot of different upgrades, and you did a good job at keeping them mostly balanced. Thank you for taking the time to make a web version ! :D

Developer

Thanks! I know that downloading it can be a bit annoyinggggg

The art is cute, I feel like i'm playing blackthornprod games. Goodjob !

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I love that guy

I really liked the atmosphere of the game. The skill selection on level up is a nice modern touch. A web version would make it even more accessible!

Developer

Thanks a lot! It took me nearly 2 hours to make a web version and counting, I probably did something wrong. So I gave up and made it a download sadly.

I somehow stop taking damage by time after taking some angel upgrades so I guess I win the race in this game :D (easy mod btw)

I'm in love with the art :) Great style. The game has some good bones to it, I'd love to see more

Thanks a bunch!

Interesting game! Felt a bit repetitive, and I got the choice of abilities a lot, but overall I liked it!

Developer

Thanks! I ran out of time sadly before I can get anymore unique features

Submitted

I enjoyed this! When I picked the Angel's Grace that reduced my bullet lifetime, my bullets stopped existing entirely.

Developer

oops

Developer

Sorry about that. Its fixed now

i think you exported it wrong, when i downloaded and opened, it said it was missing the player.

Same here. Missing UnityPlayer.dll

yea, also, while you are checking games out, would suggest trying SquareCel by Greenrock64 (probably my personal favorite so far) and while you're at it why don't you check mine out and leave a rating and maybe even a comment with feedback?
