This was very cool. The atmosphere was great and the game has a good vibe. You are clearly a very talented dev and i enjoyed the experience of your game a lot.

It's impressive the amount of games you created for the jam. The first person camera is a bit dizzying for me, maybe you can add a settings option to control camera sensitivity (and even FOV, but maybe that's asking too much). It crashed a few times while playing some of the arcade games, but otherwise it performed well on my potato computer.

Developer

My apologies for the lack of adjustments to the FPS camera. I’ll be honest, I just simply forgot to come up with any sort of camera adjustments. I’m sorry to hear the game crashed. I have no idea what could have caused that. :(

I really appreciate you taking the time to play my game!!

Submitted(+1)

Well, I have a potato computer and also use Linux, so I definitely don't have a normal setup... About the camera adjustments, it's completely understandable, given the timeframe we had. I just wanted to add that as a comment in case you were looking for ways to improve the game easily.

Developer(+1)

Given that you’re on Linux, then I might have some idea what might have been going on with the crashes. I learned that there’s some (as yet) unfixed issue where Godot will just randomly shutoff. I don’t think the issue is explicitly X11 vs Wayland either, as I use X11 on my laptop (running a gen 5 intel integrated graphics) and Wayland on my desktop (running on an AMD 6600XT), and Godot will still, randomly, just shut off without error. I have noticed it seems to happen significantly more often on the integrated graphics, though. This might be the issue, and, if so, I think this is a Godot engine issue.

Wow, this is great information. Thanks!

Nice idea, loved the integrated ui too. Good job on the entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I was rather excited myself when I saw the “ui” come out as it did. I appreciate you playing, thank you!

Pretty original and fun idea, the games were plenty of fun trying it out, great vibes overall!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing! I greatly appreciate it!

Great game! Well, I guess i must say great gameS x) That's a very good take to merge multiple gameplay and "simple" yet satisfaying games into one framework. It must have been some hard work to do that much ! On the games side I really liked that you went into the detail that each games has its own music and dynamic. It made it fun to switch from one to another. I also loved the play on words with the names x) I learned i am as bad at Flippy Da Bird than at Flappy Bird. Although I did discover some skills in Planet Defender, not enough to get above F :S

At first i thought playing those games for 12min would be long, but as they are well imlpemented the urge of performing got me hooked more than I expected ^^'

I found the arcade environment to be super nice and the general music too. Maybe a little too dark, though. I didn't get too see much of the unknown figure, but I guess this is also the point.

Anyway great work and congratulation!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing! I’m really glad you enjoyed the game, and that the 12 minute challenge timer wasn’t too long! Honestly, I kinda worried about that. Also, if it makes you feel any better about the grading system, I didn’t really have time to fully balance it. It may require too high a score. I think you have to total over 20 points across ALL games to get out of F grade, and your score is heavily penalized if any of the games has zero score at the end.

The lighting was definitely a struggle. I agree it’s over-dark. The ghost is purposely hard to see, though. She actually goes completely invisible when your too close or too far. You only really see her in a sort of sweetspot, and even then she’s translucent. She’s constantly whispering, though. You’ll know she’s nearby with the whispers :)

Again, thank you very much for playing!!

Such a chill vibe! Reminds me of those games were you can just lock into it very late into the night and relax. I wasn't able to full screen the game as every time I'd open the game it'd take my cursor, even when trying to press the fullscreen button but the actual controls of the game were good once I read the cool wall panels to learn how to get out of the machines (great use of the wildcard there!), and with that really being the only complaint you did a really good job on this jam! This also may or not not of been my first time ever actually playing asteroids so there's always a plus for that =)

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thank you very much for playing! You know what! I’m a idiot! I totally forgot to implement an explicit fullscreen function! On my computer, I run a tiling window system and the game will always try to take all available space, so it tends to automatically full screen for me. I forget about that. I’m very sorry you were not able to go to full screen :( Still, I’m glad you were able to enjoy the game regardless, and it’s awesome that Asteroids is new for you! I hope it didn’t disappoint!

I really loved your implementation of the UI wildcard, even though I was lost at first because there was no standard UI at all haha. You quickly notice the special UI on the walls though.

Otherwise, I liked the atmosphere a lot, and the minigames were pretty polished.

One little thing I'd have liked (or maybe I didn't notice it), is to still have the keybind displayed to leave a minigame when playing a specific machine. Because the sound was really loud on my first play (I hadn't found the volume buttons on the walls yet), and I couldn't leave the machine, so it was destroying my ears I had to close the game and reopen it to look for the keybind lmao.

Great work overall, I liked it a lot !

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing!

I really wish I had thought of a better way to inform the player of the keybinds. The info UI on the walls actually came really late in development and it doesn’t display the controls until about 30 seconds later (unless the player thinks to press the buttons on the board). And I completely spaced on making players aware of the sound setting controls in the back room (I actually did those moderately early).

I do hope you figured out the key for quitting the arcade games. In case you haven’t, it’s “Q”

Again, thank you very much for playing, I greatly appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I figured out after restarting the game, the buttons to swap menus were pretty explicit so it was fine !

Submitted(+1)

Very cool idea!

I liked how seamless popping into the cabinets was, and also I had a great laugh to myself when I realized that buttons on the wall were changing the volume! No UI indeed!

My only complaint, and I feel this holds the game back, is that the minigames on the cabinets do not feel tight. They feel quite sluggish, which is not something I would associate with an arcade game. Other than that, very cool!

Developer

To be fair, I never got around to explaining (in-game or otherwise) what those buttons on the walls even were, so, the fact you figured them out at all either means I did a better job than I thought in that regard, or you’re a damn sharp gamer!

In regards to the mini-games, they all definitely could have used a little more time. As it stood, they only got a few hours each. My apologies for the sluggish feeling.

Thank you very much for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed!

The game has great ambiance.
The scope was pretty broad, so I'm guessing it was difficult to build out a system that was more thematic and "gamified"
That said, the amount of work you've put into this is great. The General idea of an arcade with plug'nplay games, and an overarching game on top of that can be expanded upon greatly.
I think with another month or two of refinement, and some game design changes, you could yield something unique and fun to the market.

Developer

You’re not wrong, the scope for this game definitely got the better of me, but I was excited by the success of, as you described it, the plug-n-play system for the arcade games themselves.

Thank you very much for trying out my game, and your comments!

I might hop onto discord and pick your brain about how you set up the screens and subviewports at some point, if you'd be willing to show that off

Developer

I can do that. I also stream on Twitch( https://www.twitch.tv/obsidianblk ) Mondays and Wednesdays starting around 4:30pm est (US time), if you want to pop in. I’d be able to demonstrate on stream :)
