Artist notes
Lyrics:

For now, we both must wait.
Too often this world stands in our way.
Someday, there'll be a place,
where we can find peace, and love will be embraced.

this is an excellent interpretation of what I drew, it really captures the beauty of the moment but also the tragedy too! The lyric notes T-T Amazing job : D

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I noticed u mentioned in a different comment about ur take on the butterflies and I just wanted to say that u were right and I’m glad you noticed haha. Obviously everything is up for interpretation but they were intended to represent the reincarnated lovers or just generally symbolise the fact that they were able to reunite just not in the life that they wanted. Anyways awesome work ^-^

Heck yeah! Thanks for letting me know! I appreciate it! Always glad to hear that my intuition lead me in the right direction! That's a testament to the symbolism in your art! Same to you! I think it's an awesome piece of artwork! :D

I read through your thought process / analysis, and you've definitely captured that sense of hope. The optimism in the melody throughout the piece is very evident, especially for a story that ended so tragically. Well done!

Glad to hear I achieved my goal! Thank you very much!

This is beautiful, well orchestrated and clearly well thought out! I would have liked to hear a bit more of the tragic side of the artwork, and harmonically things got a bit predictable, but neither of those points distract from what is a really solid submission.

The quality on this is insane... you know it only goes up to five, right? =P

Seriously this was excellent, I think maybe the thinnest aspect was the fit.  For me,  it wasn't until the end that you captured the entirety of the artwork, by touching on the tragedy element, however lightly.

Lovely stuff.

Thank you for the kind words! :D

I didn't really include my thinking behind the piece in the description, so I'll leave it here if that's alright!

One of the first things I noticed about the artwork was the butterfly motif in the stained glass along with the cross. For me, those represent rebirth, resurrection, new beginnings, etc. Then I noticed the butterflies in the church which I interpreted as the reincarnated forms of the lovers. With resurrection and new life being major themes for heavenly rewards in Christianity, even though the journey of the lovers is sad while they are apart and eventually die, I viewed the story ultimately as happy due to them being reunited in the next life.

With these things in mind, I tried to write a theme that was romantic and sad yet hopeful, and one that could be applied individually to each scenario in the story of the stained-glass windows and butterflies in the church.  I hope I succeeded!

Overall, I had a great time with this gamejam and I hope you and everyone else did as well! Thanks again!

Ooh, interesting - good interpretation. I took notice of the butterflies on the stained glass, but overlooked the butterflies in the foreground entirely, or perhaps just didn't realize how significant they were to the story. I had a lot of fun with this jam =] - Hope to try again in season 2 =P.
