There are a few problems with enabling the older backgrounds however.
The first is that I can no longer generate backgrounds of the old style, so when we add new regions, we can’t arrange new ones of exactly the same style.
The second is the way that scenes are loaded when the game is opened, it preloads the map regions with the backgrounds already, and if we were to change on the current system based on an option in the menu, you’d probably see a small jump of one image to the other, and that would look a bit bad, in my opinion.
The last is that the older backgrounds were harder to edit, because of the semi-photorealistic look, and harder to make them look connected in the map.

Regarding normal animals, not sure what you mean :P, but if you mean mammals, there is a low chance that we add more, besides a Dolphin, however there won’t be much more on that front, perhaps boars as suggested by some.
