This game is really polished, little shocked it hasn't released after the years of development. It's pretty solid. Not much I can say outside the main trailer you have shouldn't spend the first 7 seconds on the character select screen, it should be for gameplay first then character select if people like the main idea to keep watching. Great game.

Look pretty cool and plays really smoothly. This is my first time playing it, so I don't have any previous versions to compare to, but it was a pleasant surprise. Feels pretty professional all things considered and the presentation is pretty good. Good job.

Developer

Thank you so much! I appreciate the nice comments! I'll be sure to have more gameplay content for the next update!

In game notes:

  • Love the art music and presentation already
  • The movement of the dice is nice and satisfying, and mechanics are easy to grasp
    • Maybe its in the advanced tutorial, but I wish I knew how to get one face facing some way
    • I’m sure there algorithms for it like rubix cubes
  • Wow this is really fun.

Post Game thoughts

I think this game is ready for release IMO.  The presentation is top notch, everything works exactly as you’d expect.  The characters could influence a bit more of the gameplay (I’m thinking like CO’s in advance wars) but maybe I just haven’t played enough to get to that.

But yeah, this feels like a semi-pro title, it’s clear you’ve put a ton of hardwork and effort into it.  I’m sure it will do really well when you release it!  Honestly could put this on mobile too.

Thank you! I'm really glad you had fun with it

Yes! Exactly that, the advanced lessons teach you how to do that. Of course there are some more techniques I could show but I think I'll leave it at that (for now) since it might make the turorial section too long as it is.

Honestly could put this on mobile too.

The game is on mobile lol, you can download the Android version as well.

You did really well for your first playthrough! Thanks for everything! I'll be sure to try your game soon and leave some feedback, I didn't have time to check on DD this weekend, so I'm catching up with everything! WAGMI

What can I say?  your game is right now very polished and clean: ui, portraits, presentation, music, everything is very nice. Make sure to do marketing right and your game will be one those with overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam. Keep up the good work.

Also, take a Camilla drawing:

Thank you!!!!! Your drawing looks awesome!!! I love it, thank you!!!
And yes! I'll be sure to do some proper marketing, I want to have trailers for each character and promo videos like that - since I have enough voice lines to play around with, more promo illustrations as well to move around online! WAGMI
I tried your game btw, I'll leave a comment for you soon! Thanks again!

Kick this guy out of AGDG, this is AMATEUR gamedev not PROFESSIONAL gamedev. Kidding aside this is really well made and just a fun experience all around, makes you feel a genius when you intentionally do a combo lol

Thank you so much bro! I'm glad you had fun with it! I tried your game too, I'll leave a review soon! Thanks again!

Almost didn't try the game. On first start the window was completely fucked ("fullscreen", but only half of the screen was visible). Couldn't get to any options menu to reset fullscreen/windowed to maybe fix it. Tried to start the game, but only got a black screen (couldn't see the loading text, and loading took forever).

On second start everythig was working fine. Loading was quick, too.

Windows/fullscreen option would've been nice. Not sure if I missed it.

Directly went to story mode as I expected the tutorial would be inside there. Was confused about getting shown "Episode 4" right away (only read your changelog after), after which I was brought back to the main menu. Went to solo mode, expecting a tutorial there. Played the challenge mode the first time, which I didn't enjoy without wrapping my head around the movement first.

Finally found the How To Play section. Expected/would've liked to have an interactive tutorial, not just explanations, but was nicely done otherwise.

Tried the challenge mode again. Slowly got the hang of it. Even got a kyubu-kyubu-niceu-diceu-lucky-whatever-quad-combo. Around level 30 it got too fast for me, while still trying to wrap my head around the movement. Forgot to hit record before, but you can see me button mashing.

I don't like the controls. Right for down-right and Up for up-right, etc... I'd either prefer to play with the numpad (1,3,7,9) or have some sort of indicator which button corresponds with which direction on screen (preferably on the dice itself). At least to internalize the controls.

The #3 needs more contrast around the dots.

Also, when I "exit" the game from the menu, please don't take me to another exit screen.

Fun game with fantastic level of polish and juice. Gameplay gives me a feeling of Tetris when the speed gets fast. Personally I could see myself enjoying the puzzle mode a lot, challenging friends.

Will there something that "punishes" button mashing? Like a harder mode where you lose lives when doing a wrong move or puzzles with limited moves? When I'd hit a combo I often just button mash in the hopes of hitting any correct number.

Thank you for playing the game!

The window bug happens sometimes, were you by any chance playing with two monitors? Sometimes the window can't tell which is the main monitor so it does that, if that happens just close the game and start again. There's also the options menu to the top right at the main menu, you can change the graphic settings there. You can also press F11 to go to window mode and then jump into the options normally.

>Finally found the How To Play section. Expected/would've liked to have an interactive tutorial, not just explanations, but was nicely done otherwise.

I'll have the option to jump from the title screen directly to the tutorial for first time players soon.

I'll have a key binding option eventually too lol. Thank you for mentioning it tho.

>Also, when I "exit" the game from the menu, please don't take me to another exit screen.

I'll keep this in mind, I'll add a "Main Menu" button and a "Quit Game" button for clarity.

Button mashing can only take you so far to be honest around level 30 and onwards the speed won't allow you to "cheat" the system that much. I watched your playthrough video and I noticed that you missed out on a lot of combos lol (completely normal btw). So I think it's nice to keep around to empower beginner players. This reminded me of that Sakurai video about the subject:

Thanks again for playing and thank you so much for your notes! You are the best Mohagged!

I see, yes, I'm on 2 screens.

About the button mashing: I didn't mean to remove it entirely, but to maybe add a more challenging variant/modifier. Can be both fun as a harder mode, but also (for me personally) it helps building better habits. With games like this, I know that if I can cheat my way through it, my brain will eventually go in energy saving mode and I'll end up with poor gameplay habits, instead of properly thinking about I'm doing.

Good luck!

Can't express the pleasantness of everything enough, the music, arts, UI, great stuff.

I'm not a puzzle guy, but definitely will practice a bit more, excellent work!

Thank you so much bro! I appreciate the nice comments! I really want to play your game, I'll try it later today! Thanks again!

Absolutely delightful and engaging puzzle game. The presentation, menus, and overall style are well-executed and consistent. I love the unique touch of the splash screen voiceover featuring different character voices each time. The characters are adorable and perfectly suit the game. I'm excited to play more!

Great job!

AGDG DEMO DAY 63

Changes from last Demo Day 62:

  •  Local Ranking Data has been included. All game modes can record up to 20 entries of high scores, so now you can check your progress. For now there is no profile system so the default name for the entries is "Your_score". This will be expanded to global leaderboards for the Steam Demo and the main release.
  • The "Story Mode" has a new scene with a background, it's just a test "episode" to show off some of the characters' facial expressions and animations. Only one character is shown but there are many more, I've included a "face sheet" in the "Official Art" folder to show the whole cast. I would have loved to make a showcase of this inside the demo but it would have taken me much more time.
  • Playstation controller UI support icons are now shown in the game if it detects there's a Playstation controller being used.
  • Small shader VFX have been added, the player's dice now does a "lighting sweep" each time it clears a tile and it "combo flashes" whenever it makes a combo.
  • New music tracks are available as well in the customization screen, before you start a game round.

I am currently working on the Puzzle Mode, for the next time I will have new gameplay content and I expect to rework some of the UI for the Story Mode menus to showcase the story episodes and overall presentation. New backgrounds for the story are also in the works.

Thank you for playing Kyubu Kyubu Dice!

You are the best!
