Really nice visuals! I didn't like so much that the LMB restart the level but the game is pretty fun. Sometimes a little bit hard at the start but I really want to see where this game goes after the jam. Good job!

Developer

The LMB restarting the level is a bug I didn't manage to fix but it will definitely be fixed in the future! Thank you for your kind words :)

the platforms part of the background are cool but it was hard to figure out where to jump sometimes while being chased by all the thingies. the game is very alive!

Developer

Thank you! We already know about the issue, and we will make sure to improve on the levels in the subsequent updates :)

A very ambitious platformer for a jam setting. Seems like a lot was planned from the start. Interesting to see how it will shape up after the jam.

For that I'd suggest honing in on the the player controls and making sure those feel super good. Feels like there might be coyote time implemented but an input buffer is missing. Ideally jump should never be up arrow or W but space. It just feels a little awkward. Pressing Z to punch also feels odd when using A and D to move. The reach of the punch could also be longer and the size of the fists exaggerated. Sometime it's a little hard to tell what's part of the background and what's a platform. Here you could use colour, saturation and contrast to gently guide the player's eye around the level.

I had a challenging time with the second level. It's difficult to get on the first platform without taking damage from the above enemy. I managed to fall off the map here as well. It also took me a while to realize there was wall jumping and how to perform it. Sometimes I'd get stuck in the glide animation but I beat the level eventually.

The visuals have a lot personality. It reminds me of something you'd find on Newgrounds. I wouldn't mind seeing more of these characters. Very impressive for a week of work!

Thank you so much for your feedback! :D This is my first platformer I've ever coded, but we will be working on fixing the issues you posed! :)

I got stuck in the second level, where there is this goddamn pink lady that is seemingly invincible. How can I go beyond that level? Animations are definetely unique, I have never seen anything like that.

Developer

On the second floor, you need to jump on the table and then onto the box. The pink cloud girl and the sharks are intentionally invincible, you have to avoid them. I'm sorry if that was not obvious! :D

Thank you for the kind words on the animations! We were working hard to implement them :D

Art is fine but it's hard to tell what player can and cannot go through and on what player can stand. Game is oversaturated with different kinds of enemies like four different kinds of enemies on first level is too much. collisions feel weird and unfair. My conclusion is that you guys focused on making enemies and mechanics and forgot to make the actual game and polish it, so feels like management problem.

Developer(+1)

Yep, we overscoped a bit too much. Still proud of what we've managed to put together despite a lot of things being incomplete!

And I am aware of the collision problem. Sometimes the player suddenly warps when you jump on a partially solid platform (I actually don't know what the professional term for that is!). I wasn't able to fix this problem in time, but it will be eventually fixed. It is definitely annoying.

Enemy oversaturation is a side effect of the game having a lot of enemy types but only two levels. We will rebalance the game as more levels are added.

We will see what can we do with the collision boxes! It was kind of a hit or miss with where they should be placed having only the level background as a reference, but I want to improve the game in that regard too.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Really appreciate it!

Art and animations are great.
I love the wall jump =)
Enemies and platforms hitboxes were a bit hard for me
Good job !

Developer

Thank you so much! :D We will rebalance the hitboxes in a future update.

Hey, unfortunately I couldn't see how this would fit the theme of "changing states"- BUT I really like the artstyle, the animations are really smooth and feel kind of old-school. I'd love to see this with more polish! Like making the platforms more obvious, lol.

Also don't worry about the game being public right now, it's good to put things out there! Good luck in the future :)

Developer (1 edit)

The artist has justified the theme by saying that the levels transition "from relaxed picnic to suddenly action" and "from fighting normal material to suddenly fighting elemental enemies", but it kind of got lost in the end. We hope our entry will be still valid but personally I would not be surprised if it is going to be disqualified because of it not following the theme.

The platform placements will be improved in the future :)

Thank you for your kind words! Really appreciate it! :D
