Smite them ALL's itch.io page

How does your game incorporate the theme?
Use the power of Kinetic Movement to Power UP and smite them all. By using the mouse you can move the mouse side to side, collect charges and move around the player to charge up (imagine you are a electricity generator), the more charges you have the more power you get. With them you can sacrifice some power(charges) to give yourself some sweet upgrades that will help you defend the temple.

So the more charge stacks -> more damage, but damage is not all in this game, use your power wisely!

What bonus challenges did you complete?

Single pack
Mouse only

Did you use any sort of AI during the development of your submission?

No

Let's trade feedback! I submitted a project too.

  • Art Style: Perfect for Game Boy! I can see this on a classic handhelds, SNES and PICO-8. With some customizations here and there I think you could aim to refine it for the newer crank PlayDate models.
  • Mechanics: Reminds me of Missile Command both in style and bomb-dropping. I didn't discover the missile bomb feature until very late into the game. I HIGHLY recommend adding a tutorial or a super easier level 1 to easy the player into map exploration, protecting their ship and seeing the pace of enemies.
  • Interface: GLAD you added an in-screen pause button. Helps in accessibility given how fast paced the enemies can get over time. The Shop text is readable, though it could use better icons that express what the ability is you're buying with the sun-coins.

Recommendations:

  1. Please add a Tutorial. An easy level 1 to let players get used to controls and protecting their ship from a few enemies.
  2. Add WASD or Arrows movement. It will help with accessibility for those without a mouse. There were moments I just wanted to run around your map and dodge enemies manually with my arrows instead of the mouse.
  3. Add more interactables to the Map. I wasn't as concerned with my ship. I wanted to explore more map. You can add maybe civilians that you run into that earn you more points if they get into the ship safely. (Like Resogun). You can add traps or hazards that delay movement speed for a moment. (Like sand, sludge, rocky terrain or spikes). You could add NPCs that start attacking the other enemies or allies with shields that take a hit for your ship----that'd be nice shop item. Interactables will help keep player interest and make your world more dynamic.

- I didn't really like the gaining power when moving the mouse. I just stood still and flailed my mouse around. Maybe only the pick ups to gain charge to incentivize the player to move around the map. At the end i was just spamming smite on the castle to protect it lol.

 - I didn't know what the number did or that there was a shop on the first run. Maybe it should auto open and you enough charge and get to select a power up out of 3?

- Movement should stop after letting go of LMB (already mentioned by other commenters). Smite and move should be swapped IMO.

Overall, you did a fantastic job. It feels polished and was fun to play.

Loved the feedback. I unfortunately ran out of time to fully polish the game but it was on my backlog of 3 main pieces missing. I lost a day cause I got sick ahahah so it made it more challenging doing it in 24hours

  • Penalize the player by staying still by loosing charges (Hence why the Cristal/Charges were in place)

  • Improve Store UI, forgot to plug it in to the metrics system

  • Balance the game. This didn’t come to mind to setup different difficulties so player can test it out.

All of these changes will be in release 2.2 After the Jam review is over :)

The gameplay is fun and starts slow but gradually picks up. The click movement does feel weird, but that does not affect the gameplay too much. Overall, pretty great game!

Developer

Thanks! That happens when you leave the tweaking of the game to the last minute, I should’ve ramp up faster but I gets juicy at the end!!!

Had fun playing this game lol, at first it was a bit boring but when things started getting crazy i found myself spamming right click like crazy lol. Good Job!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I tried to adjust as much as possible the loop with the different variables there is much you can do in 48 hours haha but proud of the Game and happy people are enjoying it!

Fun game, I enjoy the simple gameplay that keeps you on your toes. At the later stages, even just letting go of the attack just to click the upgrade menu feels like it has to be a calculated move!

Developer

Really happy to hear you get to enjoy the game, tried to tweak it as much as possible but the biggest challenge on game jams is to adjust this numbers right 😅

I really like how this game makes you feel invincible, and think, "this is too easy, I can just hold down the right click button and im safe," only for you to realize the enemies are getting faster and tankier, so now you need to run around getting upgrades as fast as you can while still keeping an eye on the core. It's a great, fun gameplay loop with great balance and fun mechanics. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback, it makes my overnight grind worth!

I like it! Great job

Pretty cool entry with VERY clever gameplay loop, my only issue is sometimes the player was moving after i stopped pressing lmb

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!, that’s a “feature” hahaha, due to the point and click capability I made it to keep moving to the last known clicked position so you can keep casting!
