Love a thieving gull.
Really smooth aerial controls, had a blast stealing chips.
I think if you're able to add objective or some sort of fail state it would spice it up.
But it's a cool little game done in a short time.
Nice work.
The gameplay is really fun I always loved aerial controls, one thing i missed to invert up/down controls back.
The concept and execution is really good, though!
A fun premise and fun to play for a few minutes! I liked the controls, I would've almost expected an air-braking maneuver given that it's a bird but I can see how that's a bit too much to implement in a short jam especially with the animation. After a few minutes it does feel a bit empty but again it was a short jam. Definitely fun to play!
Very impressed with the consistency of the experience as a whole.
- Love the choice of chill music for downtime and funny more upbeat one for gameplay
- The premise is funny and the controls are as well
- One of the games that matches the theme best imho
Wishlist/Random improvement ideas as tribute:
- Wish the camera didn't tilt fully when the player does. While funny, the angles were getting too extreme and uncomfortable for replaying. It fits the tone very well but imho should be toned down for comfort.
If/when you want to make a bigger game where flying is a core part of the loop I strongly recommend checking out "Aer Memories of Old". Gameplay and narrative wise it is pretty shallow but the flying as a bird controls are superb.
Thank you for the feedback!
I've never heard of "Aer Memories of Old" but I checked out some of the gameplay and the flying does look really smooth. I'm inspired to keep refining my game post-jam or at least the flying element to implement in another game. I see a pattern with comments about the camera/controls, so it's definitely something I want to improve.
Really solid and well put together, especially for a week long game jam. It did take a little while to get a hang of the controls. But it's such a cool idea and was really fun. Keep up the great work!
Really cool game! It's a lot of fun just flying around and taking people's fries. I've not played too many games with this style of control before, but I thought the controls felt nice and responsive overall!
For a game like this, it would be nice to have a toggle in the options to adjust the roll/yaw speed. The default roll speed is on the faster side, which could make some players feel dizzy.
Other than that, really nice work!
I love the premise and I love what you were able to do with the assets. The character controller needs a lot more work though. It doesn't feel good to fly as it is. I would love to be able to align myself without having to hit a dedicated button for it. The strength of this game really does depend on how it feels to fly and I think it has a lot of potential.
I was able to play with just the keyboard, and it controls pretty well that way. I found myself constantly holding space bar though, without it I would do a barrel roll any time i wanted to turn which was really messing me up at first. The music combined with the visuals fits right into the theme, very nice.
(Played with controller) Loads of fun, but stabilising the flight somehow might improve gameplay in my opinion. Other than that a very funny idea and enjoyed the upbeat music!
For me the controls are a large problem, first I don't have a controller, and second I am left handed, so playing with wasd is really difficult for me. But else it looked cool so far.
Ah, sorry about that! I wanted to put keybinding options in but didn't get to it in time. If I update post-jam, I'll try to include those
Also wish I had a controller, but was able to kind of figure out the keyboard controls. Had a BLAST zooming around as a seagull, great idea and execution.
Cool idea. Very clever actually. I wish I had a controler to try it out as keyboard seems quite difficult, but I manages to steal some snack. Music and art feel really good. Great work!
From one bird game to another, I loved this! Originally I was struggling with the controls for flying but after I got a hang of them, it was actually really fun to play! I was very surprised to see that you used multiple assets for this because they all worked so well together, it shows you really put some effort into getting the vibes of this game down and didn't just throw a bunch of random assets together which is GREAT. Good entry!!
Appreciate it! I attempted to use Blender for the first time this jam, but nothing turned out how I liked haha so I did my best to try to find some cohesive assets
oh trust me I feel you on that one LMAO. If it wasn’t for my friend’s help with the pigeon assets for my game, I think it would’ve been nowhere near as good as it is. I think you absolutely nailed it though, all the assets felt like they fit together perfectly :)
Very clever theme! I love playing as a seagull.
Thank you!
The music fit so well with this game it was so good! The flying was pretty good, though I did have some trouble getting used to it at the beginning.
Glad you like the music! :)
Nice chill tunes! Living close to the sea this hits home too hard. Those pesky birds haha. I was afraid when I saw it's a flying game but it controls surprisingly well on Keyboard. Well done, it's fun!
Thanks for playing!
Haha, I love the concept! The airplane style controls work, but I'm sure there's probably better ways to control a seagul. I wish there was a simple flapping animation, and some visual feedback when snatching the fries, as I wasn't sure if they were gone or I got them. Bonus points if I could carp on people :))
I'd love to see this expanded into a more complex game.
Thanks! Crapping feature is top of the list for future updates
The music goes really well with the game play. I saw you used a lot of assets, but you did a good job of matching them together so the game looks pretty nice. I managed to fly ok using a controller. I wish the fries lasted a little bit longer because a few times they disappeared right before i got them. A seagull stole my food on vacation recently, and this game has helped me see the world through their perspective. Good job!
Thank you! Glad you could experience the life of birb
This is a fun concept, my only concern was the camera controls. I got a little bit dizzy when I started flying.
I added the "level out" control to try to ease this but understand all of the camera movement can be a bit much
