Yes - I'm new to game jams!
How does your game fit the theme?
My sister and I have been wanting to work on a game for a very long time. So this jam came at the perfect time (layoffs oof), and we gave it a go. I think we made the mistake of aiming too high, but we're proud of what we could accomplish in such a short time. First time using Game Maker, but I'm an experienced front end dev, and my sister worked in UX so she was brand new to coding. It was fun and we just got started :D Thanks!

the collision box of the text options is a bit wacky so it was hard buying my first shelf, and refurnishing at the start, also the music stopped playing after a short time, that's a shame cause it made for a great ambience! overall that was really cute, and it's cool to see a convenient store management game on here!
cool entry! i love the art and music, really relaxing. the beginning could use more tutorials and guiding since it took me a long while to figure things out, there are some stuff that arent immediately understandable right away. good work for your first jam!
The beginning was very confusing. The shelf highlights looked like lights so I ignored them at first. The purchase dialog seems to work arbitrarily. When I approached the granny, she gave me the "Taking a break" dialogue so I thought that was all she had to say and only found out about the tutorial midway through the game. When I figured out how to sit down, I thought the customers approaching me with items above their heads was them purchasing things instead of them complaining about a lack of items.
I hope all this critique doesn't come off as too negative. I did enjoy the game after figuring everything out after a few minutes. For your first game, this is quite well done :)
Thank you very much for the feedback!
It's super helpful. We added the backroom on the very last day, so I totally missed the granny being in closed proximity to the stairs lock.
Thank you for taking the time to play and actually giving it a chance, I know we got a long way to go ;;
Love me some crazy good pixel art - very nice. Too bad the customers are not animated, at least the shoulder bumpin would be nice :).
The menu highlight at start screen seems off, had thought the white text marks the selection, but rather minor issue. A point that was rather frustrating was to hit the hitbox of the goods/appliances.
In my first run i also got myself soft-locked after purchasing two shelves, instead of goods. Maybe the pricing could have been adjusted, that you can't softlock.
But overall nice experience.
Thank you so much for playing our game!
Originally we had 3 options on the start menu so it was easier to see which option was highlighted, but as we ran out of time we removed the Settings option making the white text pop.
We are also noobs to Game Maker, and it took us a long time to understand how the Draw and Draw GUI event work, so we apologize for the frustration.
We appreciate the feedback! :D
It was fun to stock what the customers wanted and level up! I was wishing for a way to spend it other than buying appliances/shelving for the shop, or like a way to influence the customers.
Hi!
We had planned so much at he beginning but we were total newbies to Game Maker.
We had so much trouble with the Draw and Draw GUI events that we couldn't properly handle a menu to include the upgrades and bonuses, and in the end we ran out of time, so we just focused on trying to deliver a working prototype.
Thank you so much for taking the time to play the game, and for the feedback!
