Impressive work for 48h! Congrats!
Insane work for such a short amount of time! The concept here is phenomenal and I really had fun playing the game, there's some caveats of course, some of which you have already addressed but I'll try to talk about them anyway because I hope these will be fixed in a future release ;)
- The dodge timing feels REALLY unforgiving, I only managed to dodge the corrupting blast once and that is with always having one power-cell allocated to dodging, you mentioned that there will be some more tell for this in the future so this will hopefully be easier then
- Once, when I took the cells out of the cleansing chamber they would not work anymore, I have no clue what caused and I tried to replicate it but to no avail :<
- Managing everything with just 3 cells is a bit rough sometimes, I don't think there is enough time for dodging at all if you also need to relocate a cell into it at first. Perhaps there could be a system where cells also gradually lose charge and need to be refueled, that way you could have more than 3 while still keeping it balanced
- Very minor but the BGM doesn't loop
Overall tho, this is very impressive work and I had a lot of fun playing your game, extra impressive considering the time and resource limitations of the jam. Incredibly well done!
What an exciting twist on a management game!
I especially love the presentation, the big enemy mech shrouded in darkness standing menacingly right in front of you, really gives the game a cinematic feel to it.
Great job on this!
Thanks for giving it a try! I appreciate your kind words. I had a pretty clear image in my head and I'm glad I was able to translate at least a tiny portion of that vision to the game!
Really cool game :D I don't what it is about piloting a mech that I've always liked. Great job! And that bass was rattling my headphones :D
Thanks a ton for giving it a try! My girlfriend made the music, she'll be happy to hear someone else thought it was bumping too haha.
Great job for such a short time! Really polished and a lot of great ideas in here!
For me, it was a bit too difficult. I found myself fighting the controls a bit. There's a lot happening at the same time, and usually I was trying to plug in cells or play a minigame, so I didn't see what the enemy was doing. I think it would have been a lot easier for me if I had everything on one screen, rather than having to look around. The heat crank I couldn't figure out how to get working at all.
Other than the difficulty, I think it's a great concept and very high quality implementation! Great job!
Haha see I said I had problems with difficulty! Yea the heat crank definitely could use an indicator or something. I had a friend record some voice lines that I had planned to pop in to explain things more clearly AND to help give you a heads up on what the enemy was doing but time got the better of me there sadly.
For the heat crank, after you plug a cell in you have to click and hold to grab the "top" of the stock. Then rotate your mouse in a circle around the middle pivot point.
Thanks for giving my game a try!
Day late but I've come to the sad sad discovery that there was actually a limitation of my web build that I was completely unaware of!! Figured I'd share the knowledge since it was a teachable moment for me so it might be for others too lol
So the issue is caused by me trying to lock the players view in place in a certain way whenever they interact with the wheel. Sadly this is not supported by browsers. Big sad. I DID find a workaround though it's janky af.
When you click and hold on the wheel, if you hit the escape key also (still holding left click) your mouse will become visible and you'll be able to crank the wheel! Yay! This does definitely mess up the flow big time and kind've makes it impossible to play full screen BUT it is at least playable.
Ooh, that explains it! Thanks for sharing, that makes me feel less dumb. 😅 Maybe you could crank the wheel with just click & hold? That would also simplify the controls and make it a bit easier.
I thought about click and hold mechanics at first but I really wanted the different ways you interact with the mech to have a different action associated with them! Like if everything was essentially just a "button" with a different coat of paint then that felt fairly uninteresting to me. I think if the game tutorialized itself better (at all!) then it wouldn't feel so hard. I definitely fell into the classic trap of "Well, I can beat it so it must be fine!" haha
I'm pretty new and, I know it sounds like I'm making excuses, but I did use some AI just to make the code bend to my will a bit easier. pls no bully
