Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
Just like how all my life I’ve wanted to make games, but I always make excuses for myself, waiting for the perfect moment and motivation. In reality, the best thing you can do is to just get started!

The game’s story revolves around a caterpillar wanting to eat some tasty berry is a symbolism of everyone’s desire to do something but are not willing to put in the effort.

This game will encourage the player and make them realize that the desire to get the berry is not enough in itself, if you want something to become a reality, you must start small and slowly climb up. As long as you try and never give up, you’ll one day achieve becoming something more.

If anyone has read this far, let my game be proof that you shouldn’t wait and just get started!

P.S.
I have more details in my doc about my game dev journey, thank you! Wiggles is my first game jam ever, zero experience on anything and yet I did it!

Thanks for playing!

Insanely difficult lol, but the art and sfx really make you want to keep playing. Really polished for your first game jam game. Also, very unrelated but, is the art inspired from this really old and obscure game called The Power (by Alexitron)? I took a double take seeing that style after so long. (Ah, it's from an asset pack - but I couldn't find it in the link, could you share it please?)

Developer(+1)

WOW I would love to try out The Power (by Alexitron), I love this aesthetic, it was just a coincidence!
Also here's the asset pack! I have credited all the CC0 assets I've used in the comments, post-jam I will bake in a credit section within the game, after playing so much game jams these past few days, didn't realize I can do that!
Thank you for playing! ✨

Couldn’t make it past 22% but it was super chill — usually these kinds of games make me want to destroy my mouse 😂 The music really helped keep me calm. Great job pulling this off in just a week!

Developer

Thank you so much!
The music is a banger! it's a CC0 license(public domain) asset I found, it really fit what I wanted for the game!
though in the future, when I learn to make my own I assets, I would love to make my own art and music for the game. ✨

Cool foddian game, I struggled at first but it clicked once I read the hint in the description

Developer

Hell yeah brother! Thanks for playing!
Would love to see your fastest time! ✨

Developer

MADE A FUNNY TRAILER FOR Y'ALL 🔥

This one was definitely challenging. I didn't get far at all lol, but I like the idea of restricting movement to one action. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!
It took me a while to figure out the proper physics for the caterpillar, glad that you like it! ✨

Very difficult but fun game! Reminds me of "Getting over it"

Developer

YES! I love foddian games such as "Getting Over it"!
They are a true testament that the human will can overcome anything! 🔥
Thank you for playing!

Very cool, but a bit too difficult to control to my (very unrefined) taste. Looked very cute, too.

Developer

Thank you for playing!
I will consider tweaking the difficulty as best I can! ✨

Submitted(+1)

Super cool looking and super tough. I never seen or played such a unique control scheme in connection to the mouse. I'll have to come back now and then to see how much better I can get cause right now I'm not good enough to wiggle all the way up. Nice stuff for your first Jam!

Developer

Thank you for playing and compliment!
I truly believe that as long as you neve give up, you can wiggle your way to the top! 🔥

neat little game with very unusual, yet simple enough controls. The sections with the one block platforms in the blue section might have increased my heart rate by 5% permamently, but it felt like a rewarding hurdle to overcome in the end!

In the end I ended up exiting full screen mode due to the browser really wanting me to exit fullscreen mode whenever my mouse entered the top center part of the screen, but that’s my fault for playing in browser I guess.

WOW amazing job at reaching the top! Very proud of you 🎉
I am aware of the plethora of issues and bugs with the HTML version, will do my best to fix it post jam! Thank you so so much for finishing my game, really means a lot to me✨

Submitted(+1)

Loved the art style but really struggled with jumping so I sadly couldn't beat the game, maybe you could make it easier? Great job either way!

Developer

Thank you for playing! yes I completely agree, I need to rebalance the difficulty of the game in some sort of way, whether with difficulty options, I will keep this in mind! thank you! ✨

Very cool art not gonna lie 👍

Developer

Thank you so much! ✨

Wow!
First time actually playing a game where I gave up in the first 10 seconds but kept coming back. This game is the best example of my skill issue, but I shall not give up! I love the game design. Please continue to build this game further. It's very enjoyable despite the difficulty! You did so well!!

Developer

Thanks for playing and compliments! ✨
I will keep developing and iterating on Wiggles, I want to keep making better games, thank you so much for your support 😭🙏

Loved the idea and art in this! Movement is so funny and frustrating at the same time, absolutely amazing!

Developer

Thank you so much! ✨
I am glad that you enjoyed it!

Congrats on your first jam! This game is way too hard for such a cute design, lol definitely a rage game and I would love to see shovel struggle with it on stream. I really liked the unique controls, I found it satisfying when I made a jump that seemed impossible. It was a really creative way to handle physics imo.

Developer

Thanks for playing and compliments! ✨
I put in a lot of time fine tuning the caterpillar's physics, glad that you can appreciate it!
Also yes, I would LOVEEE to see Shovel play my game on stream (><)

Submitted(+1)

This is hard to play and very silly, I liked it a lot! The cute wiggle makes you wanna keep trying, even when you're ready to give up. Good stuff

Developer

Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed the wiggles!✨

Submitted(+1)

Cool game and definitely an interesting concept. The movement is so wonky but I love it... I want my Wiggle to make it up there, but alas only got to about 25% so far lol.

Developer

Thanks for playing and compliments 🙏
25% is great! As long as you keep trying you'll eventually reach the top one day!

Pretty fun little physics based platformer.

Great interpretation of the theme; just get started, aka GET A WIGGLE ON!

Developer

HAHAHA exactly as you say, we all just gotta wiggle! ✨

Great concept! The gameplay feels fresh, not at all predictable, and definitely challenging. I didn’t make it past 10%, but I had a good time trying!

Developer

Thank you for playing and compliments! ✨
It is designed to be difficult to help push the player, as long as the player never gives up, the caterpillar gets to eat the tasty berries! 🔥

Submitted(+1)

The game's design is captivating and I like that the constant movement of the Wiggle rewards patience and planning. That being said as a person suffering from a severe skill issue when it comes to platformers I had to give up at 13% after spending 7+ minutes trying and failing to find purchase on the 3rd platform. I believe that the initial stage could benefit from being more approachabe. Congrats on making a game!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and feedback! 🙏
I completely agree! the green zone is designed to be at least beatable by most people, during playtest I've already nerf the level TWICE and increased the caterpillars jump from the initial build, even tho the initial build has been proven to be beatable. Balancing dificulty is hard, I will do my best to learn from this feedback and make better games in the future, thank you again! ✨
