Game Description
Control the weather to help a forest fire consume as much of the forest as you can

How does your game tie into the theme?
It is all about a forest fire consuming the forest/town. The fire is the key to the game and is a particle effect ("Twinkle Star" wildcard)

Really fun game! I like how you have to sacrifice some of your score to affect the fire, which in turn will increase the score; really cool take on the Consume theme! I was pleasantly surprised to see how many options there were to change the parameters of the game to our liking. I really like this; it allows each person to play how they want.

Just a heads up, 2 of the options seem to change the wrong thing. Changing the game speed actually changed the game duration, and changing the game duration actually changed the game speed.

Nicely done!

Thanks for playing, glad you liked it!

Ha oops, thanks for letting me know about that mistake in the settings

A surprisingly relaxing game! I really like the sound design and the graphics are charming, the minimap is a great addition imo. I do wonder who's paying me to burn down this forest... but I suppose I probably shouldn't be asking questions lol. It's weirdly satisfying and relaxing to watch the fire spread, that's just a testament to the graphic and sound design

Developer

Thank you!

Simple idea with a surprisingly entrancing execution.

- Relax and zen soundscape. Merits praise because usually games that play a sound effect for a very common action (Shmups shooting for example) end up grating. I expected the fire sound to get old but it just didn't! Wonder what kind of tricks did you use to keep it fresh or it's just the same sound effect each time?
- A really novel but satisfying idea. Makes me realize how often godgames don't lean in the desire to just obliterate and watch the world burn and crumble.
- Was addicting enough my bf had to try to optimize and find ways to really obliterate the map and my high score lol. He managed to barely break 2M somehow(!?)

Wishlist/Random improvement ideas as tribute:
- Wish there was an alternate mode where instead of reaching for a high score within a countdown, you had to wipe out the map and beat your personal best time. I think the relaxing aspect of the game would be better served without time pressure.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback!

- I honestly think I just got lucky finding a satisfying fire sound. Took me a while, but I finally found one that just sounded right. I linked it on the game page

- Thanks! Yeah after making the main wind mechanic I was on the fence about having the player be a hero/villain, and eventually figured being a villain sounded more novel and satisfying. Glad you liked it!

- Holy cow I have no idea how your bf got such a high score, great job! I think my max was like 500k

I like that idea. I’m currently exploring the idea of either a post-jam update or (maybe?) a full game down the line, and that’s something I’ll have to consider. I feel like it was a novel game with a lot of potential, but that I didn’t really reach that full potential this jam

Really interesting idea, i thought it was going to be an idle game at first. I think it could work in that format as well. Nice job overall!!!

Developer

Thanks! I toyed with the idea of an infinitely large map and an incremental type game, but struggled with performance :/

Seeing how the fire spreads out when the wind speed is high was quite satisfying for me. The graphics were alsoTnice. The audio was glitching out a bit and the game was a bit laggy but I'll let it pass since I played it in browser. The gameplay was a bit lacking in my opinion, since there were no real objectives, the game felt more like a sandbox. There could have been tasks like burn a specific house or avoid burning a structure.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I think you're right about the lack of objectives, I'll have to consider how I would fix that

Great game, and great idea. This was one of the ideas that made it to the final round of our teams brainstorming too. Though we went with another idea ultimately, it's really cool to see it executed so well!

It's incredibly satisfying to see the exponential growth of the fire, and the lightning strikes were a great addition!

Developer

Thank you!

We kind of had the same idea :D Very cool game. The tutorial was very helpful because at first i tried it without and didnt know i could change winddirection. but after the tutorial it was fun. Great game :)
I tried a bunch of runs it this was my best one :D

Developer

I’m glad the tutorial helped! I figured I had to add it because it wasn’t the most intuitive game. Thanks for playing!

This was a great game. I love how you can only affect the the fire indirectly. The largest downsize I found for now were the rivers which were too straight most of the times, but this is about it. More variety would be awesome like effects you can buy, biomes etc. But this is only to make your game perfect. I can only say that this was awesome :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Improved world generation is definitely something I would like to add to the post-jam update I am working on. Thanks for playing!

I'd love to see a post-jam version and it is awesome to see that you continue it after the jam as well :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I’m working on a complete overhaul, so it might take a little time

Fantastic project! My final score was 116,000. I really enjoyed spreading my fire, it was a bit slow but quickly snowballed into the entire place being ablaze. I agree that the timer feels a bit jarring, some way to increase your time would be awesome. Overall, fantastic project!

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! I’m currently working on a post-jam update and plan on removing the timer, thanks for the feedback!

Really interesting concept! Similar to another comment I wanted to keep playing and didn’t love the timer cutting me off. I thought losing all of the fire would have been the end. The score being money was a little confusing to me. I almost would have wanted a currency separate from a score, but maybe that was intentional to balance buying upgrades vs getting a score. This idea has a lot of potential I think!

Developer

Thank you so much! I am considering expanding it after the jam, for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I think there is potential there and I wasn't quite able to reach that potential with this jam, so I may try exploring it more

Submitted(+1)

Really nice idea, instead of a timer would I love to be able to burn EVERYTHING (with some quicker propagation). But the concept is here, great job

Developer

Thank you! I originally wanted it to be a sort of endless game where you could burn a lot more, but I have some performance issues to iron out before it can handle that much fire, haha so I slapped a timer on it so things wouldn’t get too out of hand

An original game that aligned well with the theme and twinkle star wildcard. I liked the graphics and the HUD was laid out nicely. Good job!

Developer

Thanks!

Interesting concept, but I feel like the player doesn't have enough agency, the core gameplay loop didn't hook me.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I definitely think there needs to be more options for the player, I struggled to figure out what they should be

Zeus really did not like that little forest...

Neat take on the jam theme, i really liked the minimap showing all the burning hot action!

Submitted(+1)

At first I thought i need to extinguish the fires, till I realized it was quite the opposite. The concept of navigating the fire is really clever as well as striking thunders. Lack of sound effects for thunders and wind cost a bit as they play a big role into the gameplay. The money system also feels smooth, with the player being able to reach further and watch it all burn. Particles also feel really good with the arstyle. Congrats!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! And good point about needing more polish, particularly with audio, somehow lighting sound fx didn't even cross my mind

Submitted(+1)

Nice! I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Audio-wise I'm not sure if it was a bug, but I couldn't hear any sounds / music except for the fire.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Odd, yeah there definitely should have been music, I'm not sure what might have caused that. I'll have to do some testing, thanks for letting me know

Nice little game, I liked the mechanics! Good effort for the jam and fits the theme nicely.

Submitted(+1)

This was a great take on the theme. I really enjoy the mechanics.  The graphics are perfect for the game.  There are so many ways you could expand this  all your games are great

Developer

Thank you so much! That means a lot
