Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
Our game is a story of a destroyed world, where two creatures need each other in order to help start their lives and start regrowing the world around them. They'll combine vine-like arms and robot-like body to swing through a world in a state of transition. They'll experience harsh industrial landscapes, crushing machinery, nature reclaiming its place, and a...fan? The journey to heal this planet and plant new roots will be arduous for this pair, but one's thing's for certain: they're just getting started.

music and art is w. I love the gameplay and Concept great game overall

Very solid game all around from the theming to the mechanics to the sound effects and music all coming together here quite well. It's a fun little game that after you get used to the mechanics, comes out to be quite fun. I will say though that it's pretty easy to miss dialogue amidst swinging around though. Also, unless I'm missing something, that first lever is rather rough to get to swing to. But aside from that if you do end up continuing to develop this I'd certainly like to see it become a full game. Excellent game you've got here, wish you well in your developments either on this or another project moving forward

I love the music and atmosphere of this. The visuals are so cute too, and the vibe of wall-e is totally set. I think the controls could get a little more easy to play, but, besides that, super solid submission, congrats!

Developer

Thank you for playing! We were definitely inspired by Wall-E haha.

The controls take some time to get used to but over time they felt weirdly both natural but still somewhat difficult. Good idea to give the player ground movement only after they had enough time to familiarize themselves with the vine-based movement.

Considering the game jam time constraints, the size of the map and the variety of challenges is impressive.

Developer

Thanks for playing! We originally had even a third surface level planned but had to cut it because of constraints. But happy to see you enjoyed exploring and playing :)

Really cool game! I unfortunately managed to get stuck inside of a wall when I died by some purple vines somewhere on the top right, near where a pause symbol token thingie is.

Great work otherwise!

Unfortunately we didn't catch that softlock bug in our testing, I posted a comment  on the game page itself on how to avoid that issue to hopefully help people who see the comment out .Thanks for trying our game out!

I really had fun! The only complain i have is the game too difficult at the beginning haha! The spider man mechanic is very creative, but the tutorial definitely overestimate my skills as a player...

Developer

Repeating what I replied to POY below but yeah we definitely should have created more of a tutorial area for the player to linearly progress through. Thanks for playing!

I love the concept, I find the controls really satisfying and intuitive, the only thing is: I would've not put those "timed" obstacle so soon. The aim feels too unprecise at that point to be comfortable in those "disappearing platforms + poisoned vines" area. We are still figuring out how our bio-meca body works xD

But I've been proven to be a bad at games, if you wanted the game to be somewhat challenging then you can just disregard what I just said xD

I loved the atmosphere too, and the context and message is great! GG!

Thanks for trying our game out and thanks for the suggestions! Sorry you found it a bit too hard, but you aren't alone and that tells us that it was an oversight on our end. We definitely intended for it to be challenging but have realized the difficult scaling goes up way too quickly. It's our first jam so we've realized the importance of having more of a tutorial space to ease a player into the mechanics of a game. Right now Scrapling kind of just throws you into the fire 😅

Very fun and cute game! ✨
Really like the feel of the grappling hooks, though at certain moments it does feel hard to control, would suggest some fine tuning in that, I think a custom cursor will help a lot. The music and art is impressive for a group of newbies, really liked the environmental design. Amazing work guys, y'all have pretty special game here, keep it up and congratulation on finishing your first game! 🎉

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying our game! And thanks for the suggestions! I think there are a lot of quality of life changes we can implement to make the vines easier for players while retaining the skill ceiling. I'm gonna add a custom cursor to that list! Thanks for the kind words and we really appreciate the support :)

I can't really get the controls down, but it's a really cool idea! I feel like the game could use a bit more animation (I think it looked really silly when the plant and the robot just snapped together with to warning) but other than that I really enjoyed the 8-bit type pixel art in here!

If you could rate my entry, that'd be incredible.

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! Our whole team has main backgrounds in programming so this was our first time making art for a game. We'll be more practiced for next time for sure!

this is one of the most creative games i've seen here, really great mechanic. It gets a lot of practice to get used to it, i was using a mouse and not much games use the right button so it was challenging. Great game!

Developer

Yay thank you! Really happy you enjoyed playing it.

This game was a ton of fun. It was a really interesting mechanic! The simple music added so much to the feel, and the idea itself transformed a platformer I wouldn't usually play into something I had a ton of fun playing!

Developer

:) :) glad you had fun thank you for playing!

10/10 for the title, loved it haha! This is a really brilliant submission for your first jam! This game was really engaging and fun, I played it all the way through despite how difficult some parts were. There is definitely a learning curve to the mechanics, but it was fun to master them. The pacing was very nice, I was just getting frustrated with moving back and forth by grabbing the ground, and then you gave me wheels! Perfect timing haha! One thing I wished for was to be able to control the length of the vine once it was attached, could make for some more interesting swings, and building up more momentum. I didn't feel like swinging back and forth was very useful most of the time because I just couldn't quite get going as fast as I would have liked. That's a very small nitpick though, the game is quite good overall. I loved the way I found myself using the bottom of platforms in this platformer game, very creative!

Developer

We're happy you loved it! We're really proud of it as our first game jam too. The mechanics are a bit tricking and there are definitely parts that could be tuned or amended for more skill expression but we're glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!

This game was so cute and so creative! The main mechanic was intriguing and created such an interesting twist on the platformer genre. I also loved the themeing about environmentalism and how that was visible in gameplay as well. Very cute and great job especially for your first jam! Also love the new thumbnail :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad the swinging was fun and interesting for you! And also glad the theme resonated with you. Really appreciate the kind comment and loved your game as well!

Also Bigman worked hard on the new thumbnail so credit to her for that!

Submitted(+1)

Great game! A very creative platformer ! I think the physics have to be tweaked a little to make more fluid, maybe a longer /wider vine aswell, but this is very good well done I love it!

Developer

Thanks for trying our game! I think a longer vine would definitely help with some of the awkwardness of some sections. We would prob take a look at that and also experiment with the level design because we didn't have the most time to playtest before so we kinda just threw a lot of the non-main sections of the map together.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I love the new thumbnail! I love the interactions between the plant and the robot. At one point i did respawn into a wall but i restarted and it was fine :D

The controls are like nothing i‘ve seen in a game, and the level takes full advantage of it. You really cooked with the level design! I could see this game with a really big tower level. What i mean is that this has the potential to be agreat rage game, but if that‘s not direction that‘s fine haha

I really liked this one!

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving such a nice comment! Bigman did a great job with the new thumbnail and she also wrote all the dialogue! I'm really happy you enjoyed the swinging mechanic we definitely worked hard to refine how it feels. I think we want our game to toe the line between rage game and chill hopeful relaxing game so that's good feedback. Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

The art is really good and swinging around is fun. The music made the game feel very relaxing.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I worked on the music and that was definitely my goal :)

Submitted(+1)

Great game loved the intro with and interaction of the robot with the plant did not manage to get that far but tried my best, i think if you made that if the W key was pressed while in the hang state the robot will get closer to the plant if you get what i mean that way it would be easier and more fun to play also i think the art could be better like i thought the black coin was a pause button on the top right, overall great job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! These are great suggestions, we definitely have some room to iterate on the controls and art haha

Submitted(+1)

great game, love the music. Makes me feel like spiderman. The control does take a while to get used to, maybe an indicator of which colour is left click/right click would help. Would also love a pulling mechanic so you can pull on one rope at a time, so you can pull yourself up or use it to increase the sling shot strength. If that sounds too OP, feel free to put some form of limitation on it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and that's a good idea! Maybe having the vines out from their respective sides of the player would help with that too. The mechanic you described is also interesting will have to test that out. Thanks for the suggestions!

a nice and cute game. it was really fun swinging around and going on the trampolines. I made it up to the fan part (skill issue on my end) but might come back to try it again. great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! You almost got to the end the fan room is the final one! It might be hard to figure out what to do, there are levers on each side behind the purple walls but they sorta blend into the background. Next time we'll make sure the contrast is clear between our colors!
