Nope - I've completed at least one game jam before.

How does your game fit the theme?
in Start, It’s All You Have, the only thing you can do is press the Start button, and that’s where everything begins. each press doesn’t just start the level, it triggers actions and forces you to adapt. every time you die or complete a level, you use a new robot with new mechanics and the cycle begins again. in the end, as if nothing ever happened, the game loops back to the beginning, reminding you that sometimes, all you can do is… just get started.

This was a neat one. I really like the concept of you using start to jump. I didn't really run into any issues I can say about but it was fun.

Developer

thank you so much for the feedback! im super glad had fun with my game! :)

Hell yeh , another 2d platformer , the game is very polished. Introducing the mechanics one by one during gameplay is alwats very nice where you let player get used to the control first then slowly progress the gamplay. It is a lot of fun

Developer

thank you so much!! im glad u enjoyed the game so far. appreciate the feedback!! :>

Submitted

Im also a platformer , would love for you to tell me your thoughts

Creative and polished game! I love the idea of only having one button and gradually adding more and more mechanics to that, and it fits the theme perfectly while not being something I've seen anyone else do.

Minor nitpick: Not sure what the point is of the start button moving around every time you click it. Not a big deal at all, but just slightly annoying for no real reason.

Developer

hi cassidy! thank you so much for the feedback. ik glad u liked the concept of the game! the teleportation mechanic was a thing i added since the start of the development because i thought it could make the game more challenging, but apparently many ppl didnt like this choice. i apologies! however i already updated the game, therefore if u want to give it a try when the jam will end i would be happy!

Submitted(+1)

I had  a lot of fun playing! Loved the mechanic and the graphics were so good. Great game!

Developer(+1)

thank you so much, im honored u like the graphics since yours are amazing! happy u had fun!! :>

The puzzles are really good. Its actually pretty similar to what I wanted my game to be, just more streamlined... Actually, I'm gonna take notes.

Developer

thank you so much!! glad u liked the game, if u have any questions feel free to ask me!

Submitted

Oh really? Well I was wondering how you go about designing levels. Do you know what puzzles and challenges you want ahead of time or is it more figure it out as you go? Level design is something I struggle with immensely so I am always looking to see how other people do it.

Developer

yeah sure! okay lemme explain: it was my first time making a platformer game, and the first time making a game with levels. so basically i spent the first 3 hours of the jam making a huge GDD (Game Design Document) writing down all the game as i wanted it to be. but you know, of course u need to adapt it meanwhile you are developing it, because sometimes things don’t go as planned or maybe better ideas come up (for example the final level with the boss fight wasn’t planned). so far this is how i organised things during the jam! hope i helped you. (:

Cool, thanks!

Awesome puzzles! Really liked the progression in there. I think a counter of how many "starts" I used to clear a certain level would be super interesting too (e.g. instigate users to solve the same problem with less resources, you know?). Overall, incredible work :)

Developer

that's a GREAT suggestion, ill take it in consideration for future updates! im glad u liked the game so far, thank you so much for the feedback! :>

Super interesting mechanics, I love the graphics, and it's really funny! Well done!

Developer

thank you so much! appreciate u enjoyed the game overall!

I really enjoyed the puzzle mechanics of the game and how you played around with ideas such as parity.  I do think that although moving the start button around was unique, the game would still feel the same if it had been in one place, and since playing in browser it was quite small, it was sometimes slow to move around to it while playing the level.  But great take on the theme and nice work in the jam!

Developer

thank you so much, ireally appreciate the feedback! since y'all told me about the start button i already updated the game, ill wait the jam's end to push it to the public! thank you for having played to the game, i truly appreciate each compliment!

Submitted(+1)

Very interesting mechanics!
It's great that you paced it properly, that each level has it's own mechanic that gets introduce, though since you need to platform with a character and click on the start button, it sometimes gets quite confusing and even disorientating too, I would suggest a way to indicate the player position, maybe a slim see trough line between the cursor and character. Also the start button somestimes would spawn behind the level label at the top of the screen, that should be an easy fix.
Overall I like the little robot dude, good job! ✨

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for the detailed feeback! ill take in consideration every single mechanic u talked about. im happy u liked the game so far. thank you for having played the game, i really appreciate that!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool mechanic with the one button controlling everything! The game felt really polished and I loved the art style! Awesome puzzle game, good job! Only minor things is switching of the place of the start button, that didn't really add too much to the game, especially when you needed to cycle through many movements. But anyways I had fun!

Developer

thank you so much for the feedback! im really happy u enjoyed the game overall. i apology for the teleport mechanic, it’s definitely something that ppl didn’t like and ill make sure to dont make the same mistake in next games! again, thanks for having played the game!

Submitted(+1)

Great job, i really think its well implemented which is rare for a game jam (we usually rush things a lot. Overall a pretty good game

Oh also feel free to try my game out, i would love tho hear your thoughts on it

Developer

tysm! happy u liked it! btw i already tried your game and gave a feedback! :3

Very polished game in my opinion and interesting mechanics. I got stuck on level 4 for too long and rage-quitted. Cool to see a leaderboard and wow! someone cleared up to level 9. Overall impressive game!

Developer

tysm for the feedback!! the level 4 rage quit is a common thing. i can give u a tip to make that level: u can actually press the start button even when platform are moving, so u can mess around with patterns. i really appreciate that u liked the game! :>

Submitted(+1)

Cool concept and I like the way the mechanics stack.  But I echo what some other people said, the moving start button is probably my least favorite part.  Tracking it down each time didn't seem like it added much other than making me take a few extra seconds to find it each time.

Otherwise very slick and nicely put together and fun implementation of the jam theme.

Developer

thank you so much for the feedback!! i'll for sure change that mechanic then. again, thank you for playing and happy u enjoyed the game so far!

Submitted(+1)

I think the central mechanic of the start button activating multiple mechanics is great. Only criticism; I would have preferred the start button just staying in the same place.

Developer

tysm for the feedback! ill take in consideration that critique, a lot of you are actually complaining about it. i appreciate u liked the core mechanic! :>

Submitted(+1)

really cool game, i like that u have to think how many times u press the start button so that the box enables

i reached level 6, it was difficult for me hahaha

Developer

thank you a lot! glad u liked the game overall. the game is even hard for me xD i did a speedrun of it and made it in like 18 minutes!

Submitted(+1)

Interesting contols, although they are super hard on laptop. Nice presentation as well!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

tysm for the feedback! are controls super hard on laptop?  didnt even think about it, what’s the hard part of it? appreciate the feedback! :>

Submitted

On my laptop at least, you can't click the "mouse" button while using the keyboard, so you have to click the start sign and then move your character quickly afterwards.

Developer(+1)

oh i see, im so sorry! didnt think about that scenario

Submitted(+1)

Really cool and creative game mechanic. And fun implementation of the jam-theme. All in all very well executed. Well done!

Developer

thank you so much for the feedback, i appreciate that!
