Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
The main character wants to become an adventurer but needs a weapon. Since the game is about finding that weapon, the main character's adventure is Just Getting Started.

It's also my first time ever making a game, so I'm also Just Getting Started, haha.

Writing this fast because its almost time,

really good art, very stardew valley/pokemon esque :33

the music is bopping

the combat effects look really smooth! the way they like invert(?) and fly backwards, really nice

i really like the gameplay loop, the  powerups feel really smooth and nice.

trully a really cool game

ps. couldnt help but say this again, but while im writing this im sitting in one of the underground areas and the soundtrack is sooooo good, im like jamming out while writing this comment, really really good

Nice game! I really liked the art style and music, and how the music changed depending on where you were! I also enjoyed attacking the enemies, the push back and brief flash of red were satisfying to see whenever I hit them, although I thought the limited angles I could attack in was kind of awkward. I also wished I could see the enemies' health bars so I'd know how much more I'd need to hit them, but I also know some games choose not to show enemies' health so that's up to you! One other thing I'd like to mention is that it wasn't super clear to me which tiles were blocked off (colliders) at first glance (for example, in the areas outside the cave, I first notice the contrast between the greenish grass and the orangeish brownish dirt/sand/stone, before I see the dotted lines indicating cliffs), but I'm also not an expert here so keep that in mind too haha.

Wait this is your first time making a game?? I wouldn't have guessed, especially since this is for a game jam! Well done!!

This looks like the beginning of a pretty good game. It looks nice, and it plays well! For being your first game, this very well done.

Very nice game ! The art style and music give it a really chill atmosphere. With some more move, like a slash attack and a dash for example, it could be a game that I would play for hours !

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The slash was a planned addition that I couldn't complete in time, and I was considering adding an unlockable dash later on if I ever make a full version, so I'm glad those are things people want, because it means I was on the right track.

Fun and well made game, really like the art style. Like the other comments said, the combat was a bit awkward

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I was planning to add more attacks to make it less awkward, but couldn't do it within the time frame.

The combat is a bit awkward, and not being able to at least turn around while being stunned doesn’t help it. But in itself an interesting game.
And to our conversation in YT chat: Yes, it works under WINE, as most Godot games do.

super cool game, only complaint is that you can only attack on 90 degree angles, but the enemies will attack you diagonally, so you have to awkwardly angle your character into place to attack, but other than that, I love the art and the game is otherwise very well made!

Developer

yeah, originally i had planned to implement a slash that covered a wider area instead of a stab if you changed direction while attacking, but i didnt have enough time to learn how to do that
