How does your game fit the theme?
In the game you must get started pushing a boulder to the edge of the forest.
Your attitude towards making games of just doing something small, like in one of your videos you said, "just make a sprite move around" (or something similar).
It reminded me of everyday challenges that might seem overwhelming, but many psychologists suggest that you should start small. Essentially "Just get started".
This is what the game is about. At first, it's the hardest but with each step it becomes easier just like it often feels in real life!
Short and sweet. It was pretty satisfying to see the boulder zoom after building enough momentum.
ngl it is pretty satisfying completing this game, i can see this becoming an actual game but it needs some element of replayability i think, not sure what it could be tho. Great job
If you want go try out mine as well, i would love some feedback :)
Nice game. For about 1 minute 30ish I thought it was more like Sisyphus work and rolled the boulder once and waited until it fully stopped to make another roll, I finished the game in about 3.38 so it took me 1/3 of the time to figure that out. Also at some point I have figured out when the red area gets big you can stop the arrow within it two times, and only after doing it a dozen times I was a bit sad because the red area didn't grow any further.
Great job overall!
Thank you for playing!
Yes I did want the red bar to grow but only up to a certain point so it wouldn't have been too easy and in fact effortless
I guess it's showing that at a certain point it doesn't get any easier or faster (the speed can also reach a max ) and it is still possible to make mistakes but you still need to push forward!
Thank you for the comment it means a lot to me!
Well Mr. Wizard, I don't see why you couldn't have brought the boulder over yourself D:<
In all seriousness though, this game was so interesting! It really conveys the difficulty of starting something and the frustration that comes with the feeling that you're undoing your progress (but the boulder doesn't move backward, showing that all the work you've put in so far wasn't for nothing)! I also find it interesting that you used red for the area we're supposed to aim for, and green for the parts we want to avoid, when usually red is associated more with things that are dangerous or negative, and green with things that are more positive or desired. I think it works to show how we may feel less comfortable when first starting something, but I might be reading a bit too much into it haha.
Sorry for the long analysis 😅 Overall, nice game!
Thank you I really love your analysis!
I actually thought of a reason the wizard couldn't bring it himself it's because his magic is unstable enough to put magic spells on the rock over long periods of time or if he used teleportation it's too dangerous for the rock. And he needs the boulder in perfect condition So he can make a holy sword for the knight.
Basically sometimes there are no shortcuts and you have to do it the hard way
To be completely honest I didn't think about the colors the way you did but I love it so much it is now completely part of this game and what its meant to deliver. So thank you so much for the insight!
I really liked the message and how well it fit with just getting started. Overall just a really nice game!
Finished it in 2:20 minutes! Game is short and simple. Pixel art is quite nice, also having a parallax background is definitely a smart move, makes the game less static. Also love the red horizon; really constrasts well with the green foreground making the game more interesting to look at. Nice game!
I feel like this fits the Theme quite well, as "Just Getting Started" is something that is really difficult at first for many.
But it shows that with patience, and by giving yourself a chance to make mistakes, you can make good progression and enjoy the fruits of your labor, even if others think of it as something trivial.
Fun game, I’m so bad at these precision games but I enjoyed it. Great job.
If you wouldn’t mind checking mine out that would be awesome, thanks!
This game was so much more fun than I would've expected. First steps was super hard and satisfying when I got it really rolling. I liked it a lot and how it relates to the theme. Good job
Sisyphus Simulator!
Like the art. It's actually harder at the start of the game than it is once you get rolling (ba dum ts)
Would love to see an expanded version w/ some more variety in the backgrounds (it was hard to tell if I was really making any progress with the repeating background) and maybe some obstacles
the start is a little bit frustrating but then after getting the hang of it, it's quite satisfying seeing the rock getting faster :D
Nice game, well done! It fits the theme extremely well. Hope to see more stuff from you. :)
