  • I was really impressed with this! It's a lot of game for the short time of the jam window. I like the idea of combining cards together into "units" and I imagine this could result in some really awesome synergies in the future. With a little polish and improvement of the interaction with the game board itself, I could totally see this going far! The one large issue I had was that when I made my first combined unit, they disappeared and all combined into a single character as opposed to a unit. A possible bug to fix for the future!

Summarize your game!
Tactics battler meets deckbuilder meets roguelike - Collect an army and battle to save Onederland! In a brazen attack, the Lich has cursed your land and its people to die should they come into contact with him or his minions!

Gather your heroes and defeat him to lift the curse and bring peace back to OnederLand!

How To Play:

Use WASD to move your camera around the arena and left mouse to select, move, and attack units. Zoom in on the action with the middle mouse wheel.

Units can be forged with up to 3 cards! Each unit starts with the same base stats. Adding cards to a Unit will increase a units stats. Combining cards into a Unit can help promote the effectiveness of certain cards. There are also times when single units can be useful, like distracting enemies! Try multiple combinations and see what works best for your play style!

In this demo, the player will fight through five unique Battle Arenas, with a variety of enemy encounters, ramping up in difficulty as the game progresses. At the start and in between each Arena the player is supplied with a “Booster Pack” of cards representing new units at their disposal. When a Onederling (the Miniature Combat Unit) is slain in combat, the corresponding card is removed from their persistent Battle Deck! Players must conserve their resources intelligently and strategically in order to reach the final Arena, and defeat the terrible Lich!

A key strategy element in the Battle Arenas is using the “Combat Forge” to convert your Onederling Cards into MiniFig Combat Units. Combat units are capped at three Onederlings, but they will combine the base stats, share abilities with the group, and potentially shield one another from harm. When a Combat Unit is attacked, a random Onederling MiniFig inside is slain. Grouping units can be a smart strategy to protect rare and powerful Onederlings from the scrap heap… but putting too many resources into a single group can limit your action economy - and in a world where every shot matters, sometimes splitting troops up can be better than grouping! Pay attention to the enemy types, and battle grid layout before committing to more & smaller Combat Groups or less but sturdier Combat Groups.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
We leverage the theme in a few ways throughout the game. Your units, ‘Onederlings’ all have but a single precious hitpoint. At the end of a successful battle, you earn a single fresh Card Pack to replenish your lost troops, and strengthen your Battle Deck.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
We spent a lot of time working on the underlying systems for the "Forging" of combat units, the grid-based and turn-based combat, and the architecture for the card system!

The art here was great. Needed a bit more hand holding to understand the controls and a speed up animation would have been nice as well but I understand time constraints of jams.

Appreciate the feedback! Grid movement is hard lol
