  • GDD Very well structured GDD, with plenty of images and references. This allows me to get into the team thinking and methods. Gameplay Plenty of simple puzzles, short and sweet. All the mechanics mixed well, and the story gave that extra push. The movement is a little floaty, but the grappling hook mechanic more than makes up for it. The floatiness becomes an asset when you are swinging around. I can see how webs inspired this aspect. Art design Dreary atmosphere and color palettes; it hammered home the setting. Using floating robots was a great idea to simplify the animations and give the far-in-the-future vibe it's going for. The stiff grappling hook arm always pointing to the cursor is still funny for me, a classic feature of Flash game days. Sound design The BGM gives the air of desolation from the get-go. It did wonders to add to the game's atmosphere; that background alarm fits so well with the rest of the BGM that it does not get old fast. The SFX are responsive and fit well with the game, but some volume balancing would be welcome. Little thoughts Well done, this game has a cool concept and tight mechanics. It's obvious that the way to add further development is expanding the puzzles. If you follow what was planned on the GDD, you can end up with a fun released game in your hands; good job, team.

Summarize your game!
Steps to humanity is an action puzzle game about using a grappling hook to move around the environment and pulling/pushing a sphere across many obstacles to the goal.

The story is that humanity has suffered a total collapse and the player controls a robot tasked with bringing a pod full of genetic material to a rocket to send it to a safe location.

The game is controlled with the mouse and keyboard. A/D to walk, Space to jump, E to interact and mouse to use the grapple.
The jump is a bit janky, but the grapple is pretty satisfying to use.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
There is ONLY ONE pod left, and ONLY ONE rocket it can go to. You play as the ONLY ONE robot with the necessary equipment to scale the tower.
You are humanity's ONLY (ONE ) hope!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
If you are not sure where to go, try going up.

Woah, I was so invested in this little robot's mission I wish there was more of it. I see so much potential story-wise and I enjoyed solving the puzzles... It's the kind of game that makes me want to dive right in, and the sound design helps set the mood so much. Great work!

Just happened to check back in on this submission page and saw the comment. Thank you for adding the entry to your wish list, it means a lot to me. Who knows, maybe I will wrangle the team together and add some more content to this little project. 😊

I love the vibe to this game, I like the mix of escort with puzzle platformer.  I think the low gravity made it feel a bit too slow paced. I really like how the grapple felt, and I can see it being more difficult with higher gravity, but I think that would've made the swings that much cooler.
