  • This game is fun! This game is challenging in an extremely fun way, starting off easy and easing into more complicated routes with more twists and turns. Your goal is explained to you pretty thoroughly at the start of the game, however it seems to dismiss itself automatically which, while on theme with the game, can be pretty frustrating or easy to miss when you're briefly not looking at the screen, leaving you clueless. I'd also like to see more feedback on screen when you make a wrong move, like maybe a little shake or bumping animation, it's pretty easy to make a misinput and not even know that you did so. The art and music is super charming as well, I love that you went the extra mile to even make the graphics 1-bit. Overall for someone who didn't plan to participate you made a great entry. Well done!

olilo is a cozy, 1-bit, strategy game that gives you Only One second to look at the map and then leaves you to find your way through the labyrinth in the dark.
Be careful to not bump into walls too often

The mechanics are as basic as it gets: walk around, (don't) collide with walls, find the spot that leads to the next room.

I didn't even plan to participate (I'm recuperating from surgery and preparing for rehab), but somehow it worked out this way. By somehow I mean I had an idea, then my brain REFUSED to let go of it and now this game exists :)
This is my 2nd game I made alone, I like it a lot, especially because I managed to do ALL the things I wanted to.
The last game didn't have a win state and this one has so much more. Yay!
Please, check it out. I hope you have fun.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
I heard Only One and thought what if I give the player Only One second to see a map? And that's pretty much all the thought that went into it. I like the simple nature of it and to push it a lil further I also made it in 1-bit pixelart. Only one colour for you all!
Well technically two but, ... you get the point.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I would appreciate feedback on difficulty, playfeel and if it's fun.

Really fun! Streamed this with my dev team and we got to Room 8 collectively lol very challenging but enjoyable, great work!! : )

Developer

oh sweet. Thank you for playing my game and I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Can I watch the stream somewhere? I'd like to see where you struggled ^^* to learn how to better design levels

Super cute and well-polished! I was stretching the limits of my memory by the end (I am sooo bad at memory games), so I was grateful for the extra lives - I'm glad I got to see it to its resolution. The dialogue tone was very sweet and warm, which I'm always so fond of.
It was a good length for me, much longer/difficult and I might have needed to surrender, and it felt like enough time to fully explore the mechanic.
Reminded me of Ecruteak Gym in Pokémon Gold/Silver, which isn't even really that similar - perhaps the art style just tapped into that nice nostalgic feeling!
I hope you're feeling recovered and prepared for the journey ahead, congratulations on making such a lovely piece of art while feeling crummy, best of luck 💚

Nice, I remember making a game like this a long time ago. Yours is better. Also you are aware of the flashbang of the end but you still do it, whyy

Developer

I didn't think of it as a flashbang, but now that you mention it I realise that this will be uncomfortable for some. I used it because thats what it would be like to step out from a very dark room into the sunlit outside

That was all the thought that went into it.

Very cute! I like the small detail, that your finish position becomes your new starting position, and the next level plays around it.

Not sure if it needs any additional mechanics. But if you were thinking about some — try teleports! So the player has to memorize several tracks connected by them.

I would probably make intro skipable — it's a bit irritating if you refresh the page or come back to play later.

I'm not sure about screen resolution. But try changing Embed options in your itch.io game settings.
