  • The GDD gave me a great understanding of the game before stepping in, it was incredibly detailed! You have interpreted the theme in a unique manor and you can clearly see where the inspiration has helped you develop this game. The implementation of Tetris into the 'only one' theme is really well done, and not too overworked. You've allowed the simple but clean nature of both ideas to shine through. The music is very tastefully done, and implemented very well. It really adds a good level of pressure to the game, which is exactly what you want when playing a Tetris type game. The game has been really well created and runs very smoothly, the one piece of constructive feedback I can clearly see would be to make the grid system more easy to interpret. It is hard to understand and see where the correct alignment should be for the grid. Once this is fixed, I think this game would be a shining example of a unique interpretation of the game Tetris. Great work!

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarize your game!
Only One Tris is a unique twist on the classic Tetris formula that challenges players with a single tetromino type per level. This design choice creates a focused, strategic experience where players must master each piece type individually while adapting to increasing difficulty.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
You get one piece per level

Thought knowing the block would make it easier. Boy was I wrong. Got to level 5. Those S and Z ones are a real killer.

Developer

Hah, yeah! At first I had S and Z directly after each other, but that was a bit much, so decided to add the square in between as a quick breather

man... 30 years later and I'm still getting owned by tetris...

Nice game! Reminds me of the good old days of brick game.

This is a great idea. Perfect example of Only One. At first I didn't think it would be difficult, but man is it hard! Great game

This is such a simple idea (and yet not one that would ever have occurred to me!) that you executed so well - the CRT effect is so cool, the UI is beautiful and incomprehensible all at once, the distorted version of the Tetris theme is excellent.
Like others said, the graphical choices added some visual difficulty but honestly that felt very in keeping with the general vibe of the game so I quite liked it.
Great work on your entry!

Great work on this! It really made me think about how to use each piece in new ways. This would probably be good training for someone looking to get better at regular Tetris! The 'shadow' of the graphics threw me off a couple times on alignment, but this is a well-polished game.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I might've gone a bit overboard with the CRT effect. Let's just call it an extra challenge.

I'm bad at this game anyway, but this made it so much tougher. I tried to hit down to slam a piece and it rotated. I tried to rotate using every other button and nearly miss-placed. I made it through to L, so I suppose that's level 6? I was going to look at it restarted on me lol

This is a creative take on Tetris. I enjoyed the idea of the game, even if I'm not good at it.

I personally am not a fan of the graphics. It hurt my eyes and it was difficult for me to align the pieces with the Fish Eye AND the colors. But I get it.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try! Probably should have reduced the CRT effect a bit.

Yeah, L is the first block you get, so you looped all the way round. That's about as far as I get most of the time.

Nice, well done.

I love myself some Tetris, and I loved your variant as well! Got to level 5 a couple of times but can't seem to get any further than that.
Works really well, and I like that you put the sliding mechanic in there as well!

Developer

Yeah, the S and Z blocks are pretty annoying to get many in a row, they just don't fit nicely.

Fun tetris variant! It definitely put some new wrinkles on my brain :). The aesthetics were very cool as well!

Developer

Thanks, glad you had fun with it!

Audio feedback 10/10. The increasing music speed and rewind on restart is great.

Developer

Thanks a lot! Really glad you noticed the audio touches

Interesting take on Tetris. S-block was brutal)

A bit of annoyance — you can't turn block correctly if it is close to the wall, sometimes even if it isn't touching it.

Developer

Thanks for trying the game and the feedback. I've improved the rotation a bit, still not perfect though.
