  • Your GDD explains a lot about your game, from its inspirations to what vibe you're trying to give off at what moment. Super indepth, and your game adheres to what you wrote. Well done! Starting off, this game has a great vibe and atmosphere. The art is super cute and fleshed out, and the balance between music and ambient noise is perfect, it gets you into focus mode to line up your shots. Super well executed! Lining up your shots is a fun process, moving the bat around to explore the map and then especially hitting your shot is SO satisfying. The gameplay loop is extremely fun and rewarding when you get it right. My first try playing went terrible as I didn't have the hang of the controls yet, this could be alleviated by a short guide in-game. I also feel like the target animal description should also have a brief on where it generally appears, sometimes finding an animal takes flying around the map several times before you find it, making for lengthy and drawn out gameplay. Other than that, this game is extremely polished, good looking and fun to play, and all that within the time constraints of the jam! Very impressive and good job!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes.

Yes.

Summarize your game!
One shot Johnson is a game where you have to hunt animals, but you only get one shot.

Each day, someone assigns you a new hunting task. Complete it successfully and you will be rewarded greatly. But fail, and your reputation takes a hit. Lose all your stars, and your hunting career comes to an end. During a hunt, you only get one shot, so timing and planning is key. While your hunter stays stationary at his hunting tower, your bat buddy does the scouting. Use the bat to search the area, use gadgets, and get a better shot on your target.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
During a hunt, you ONLY get ONE bullet. Missing your shot or hitting the wrong animal will bring task deadlines closer, increasing the pressure with every mistake...

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
No.

I like this game a lot! It’s pretty much the perfect jam game. It’s short, it’s unique, it has a ton of replay value, and it’s polished enough that the experience isn’t diminished by random bugs.

I really like how hunting is always really hard, even late in the game when you have access to all of the items available, one wrong move or one rash decision can cause it to all fall apart, and you have to work at it again from scratch. I was able to make some strategies to make the hunting slightly easier, but in the end the game is still hard as balls while being quite punishing for failure, but in a more subtle way than the stereotypical you died screen a la Dark Souls. I also really like the music/sound design, as it’s thematically appropriate while being unobtrusive and aids the player’s understanding in what is going on without overloading their senses.

My only criticism is that I wish you could see your list of jobs from the journal, as sometimes I can forget what I’m meant to be doing.

The gameplay loop is really fun, and lining up shots is challenging. Great job!

I only ran into one bug, for some reason after a while the game slows to a crawl. It seems like it's time-based, not triggered by any particular action

Thank you! The slow down should only happen if the bullet is close to an animal.
