Terrain Mesh Optimization's itch.io page

What did you learn?
I learned a lot on GPU compute shaders and resource management. On synchronization between frames in flight, gpu-cpu, and cpu-cpu, on resource loaders that are loading at runtime. It was hard at first to wrap my head around, but after understanding I felt that I could implement anything on GPU. In the future I want to implement foliage and PBR materials

How did you improve the terrain?
I met my goal completely. Rendering 8km of terrain on my RX6600 takes 25ms using the brute force method. Using the most optimized method (tessellation + vertical error) it takes 1.5ms, which in my opinion is great! There are probably more optimizations to be done but I'm really happy with the result.

25ms -> 1.5ms is incredible! Great job. I hope you decide to implement foliage and pbr as well!

Thanks for the submission!

Wanted to give your game a quick try, but it's giving me an error when i try the exe: "The execution of the program code cannot continue because shaderc_shared.dll was not found. The problem may possibly be resolved by reinstalling the program."

Au... Didn't know I had to ship the shaderc dlls too

You can download the dlls here: https://github.com/google/shaderc

But even better, I will put them in the folder later today and let you know when it should be playable. Thanks for letting me know!!

Hello! I reuploaded the app with the missing DLL. Let me know if it works!

Sry mate, it seems i'm still having some problems

this is the error i get now;

Assertion failed: false,  file D:/proiecte/My Projects/Terrain/Terrain/Source/Graphics/Vulkan/VulkanDevice.cpp, line 201

Developer(+1)

That would be the Vulkan SDK.

You have to install it because this build has debug features

Thanks again!
