This is a fun bite-sized puzzler! There’s always a few of these tile-based puzzle games per jam, and I’m always a fan as long as they’re designed well. You did a good job taking a very simple mechanic (even when you added things, like boxes or walk-through tiles, they were still simple) and exploring it fully. Each level upped the difficulty a little bit, and by the end I no longer felt like I was trying random directions like at the start. That means the game teaches the player well!

If this were to be a longer game, I think you probably would need some extra mechanics and graphics to keep it fresh. As-is, though, it works as a small project. My biggest critique is that I would really appreciate an undo button. It would make it easier to try out different moves, especially in the larger levels - and you wouldn’t have to store all that much in a game like this.

Overall, nice work!

Thanks for the feedback, both more mechanics and the undo button were going to be in the final game but I simply ran out of time. I figured the levels are relatively short so I did not prioratize implementing an undo button, but yes I agree I would definitely like to have it as well. As for mechanics, I was gonna have at least one more, a glass block which acts as a wall but breaks the first time you crash into it, but again I ran out of time to add it. Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed!

I think the amount of levels was great for a jam, actually! It was long enough to be engaging without getting tedious.

Quite an underrated gem you got here

Really great, addictive game, and the artwork is adorable, well done!

addicting gameplay and snappy sound design. extremely well paced puzzles too! couldn't ask for more!

Great puzzles with an amazing theme. And then all of it super polished even!

Very nice game, well made and the puzzles are challenging just the right amount! I love the possibility to skip a puzzle as well. It was also very easy to understand the game, it felt very instictive. Great work!

Phenomenal game. Challenging puzzles, amazing visuals and music. Perfect player education too. Awesome work!

Very funny concept. There are a lot of mechanics to explore using the base mechanic, and the visuals and audio are pretty nice. The sound is a little too high, but it's not really a problem.

A sweet and pleasant game! Got to solve all 17 levels, and I liked how none of the levels make you suffer or spend too much time solving them — there is always some subtle way to understand which way it is better to go :)

The pug is also adorable! And the theme is nicely implemented. I had lots of fun!

The game look fun, i managed to get a couple of levels, but there were a couple that i kept feeling like it was unsolvable, like room 3. Could also be me. The idea, visual and overall execution are nice!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Sorry to hear that, they are solvable. If you get stuck though you can skip to the next level by pressing E (didn't have time to write that somewhere in the game).

Here's the spoiler for the level 3 solution (scroll down to see it):

Move right, and then up. From there you can only go left, down, right, up and left again to solve the level!

Cool! Thanks for that. Maybe a time based hint system or a bit of player training would have helped me as an untrained dummy to get there. I did find the level skip function, thus i could solve the other ones. Again cool idea and neat little game!

I have seen a bunch of tail chasing games in the jam, but this is my absolute favorite. Cute, addictive, and honestly challenging. Didn't complete all the levels yet, but I will be back!

i have no words, peak game, incredibly goofy i love it

Very creative use of the theme, with some fun and interesting puzzles, and the music, art style and puppy was very cute. The game was very intuitive and fun to play, good job making it.

Very charming and clever puzzle game, I love the silly music to go along with the silly dog.

The jam has a lot of these "snake but you have to catch your tail" style games, but this was by far the most enjoyable i tried! I love those crazy pug eyes!

The first two things i did in your game was clicking by mistake the quit game button and had to F5 the page lol. And after that, i missed click on "E" Key and discover i can skip the level i blocked on to continue the game and beat later levels ! I felt like the Quality Assurance tester getting inside the game and access god like powers XD

I enjoy a lot your game, its simple but very clever and the levels design is on point ! Chef kiss, or more like Dog bite in the tail/butt ahah !

Developer(+1)

Hahahaha, yeah I wanted to 1) remove the quit game and 2) write the instructions for the Q/E buttons in game but I ran out of time. Good thing you didn't press E after dying as there is a bug I didn't find after the deadline that happens then... Glad you enjoyed the game!

Loved it! Great way of introducing new mechanics too.
You should expand on this!

Maybe there could be a key you need to get to open a door.
Or a button that turns certain blocks on and off.

What a fun game! Great puzzles and amazing number of levels in such a short time. Fantastic job!

Love this game! Super polished visuals and the concept of a dog chasing its tail is cute.

Wow, that's such a great idea ! I love Sokoban and puzzle games, so I really really like your game. (sadly, I got an AZERTY keyboard, so it's a little bit tricky to play for me, but still really love your game) Great job !

Developer

Ah sorry about that... Wanted to add arrow keys as input but I just forgot in the last second panic... Glad you enjoyed though!
