I may have maxed out all of the upgrades. Great game!

How does your game fit the theme?
In the game, you continuously repeat the cycle of life in three phases—child, adult, and elder—because each time you die and are reborn you earn skill points to upgrade your race’s attributes. Additionally, another core mechanic involves looping by spinning around the trunk. These two mechanics are essential to the gameplay experience.

Interesting graphics and idea! But very hard to play because of the size of the game and the field of view :(
If you mean the resolution, I’ve seen that it causes problems on screens with more pixels than 1920x1080 (which is what I use).
Regarding the field of view, the game’s upgrade system allows you to expand it during gameplay. I know at first it may seem too little, but it’s designed to make upgrading it feel satisfying and liberating.
I’m sending you a photo so you can see how the resolution should look—or at least how I see it—in case I can luckily help you solve it.
Love the retro pixel aesthetic, it's a cute climbing game and I like the mechanics! That added history about a drawn character in high school adds specialty to the game. A lil suggestion would be to include an effect or better visualization that you are switching instantly from one side to another! Other than that, great game! (love you jeremy)

I understand that by power-ups you mean the upgrades for health, speed, and field of view, right? Basically, you eat bananas to age, and when you die, you’re granted a soul, which is the currency used to unlock new levels of each upgrade. I’m not sure if that’s what you were referring to, but if you didn’t get to try it, I recommend playing it again with that in mind—if you already liked the game, you’ll enjoy it even more. Thanks for playing it :)
Dang this is a really cool lil game! Love the CRT effect and the SFX are top notch! It took me a little bit to understand I was wrapping around the tree but I got the hang of it
Great addicting game with a very creative twist. Really enjoyed my time with it, great job! (loved the voice acting btw haha)
that was dark and disturbing, but I had to sacrifice the monkey and force feed em.
Wow, I’ve really enjoyed the game!! Took me a while to get that I had to eat the bananas and that it made my monkey get older and stuff… but I got it hahaha and I loved it sooo much, congrats! 5 stars :)
This game is seriously Balatro level addicting. It's super satisfying to not only rack up upgrades but also to feel yourself getting better in skill as you play. I also really like how the four sides of the tree encourage you to be greedy and search every side in search of bananas, then snatch them up when you spot one (monkey see, monkey do!)
I like how the theme is interpreted on many levels: the roguelike progression, the four sides of the tree, and the passing of generations. The sound effects are also funny and really endear you to the main monkey (you almost feel bad for sacrificing him... almost.)
I think this game's biggest issue is communication, such as not seeing your remaining health points or souls and the rather obtuse narrative behind the progression system. But other than that, you've got yourself a crazy good game that's better than it had any right to be. Amazing job!!
Great style. I just don't understand the UX. The rotation around the trunk was not immediately intuitive, but I got over that. Not having a soul counter or a bar to fill out for the bananas until sacrifice feels like a an easy add.
But the biggest gripe I have about this game. Is this a coconut or a banana tree? How can a tree have two kinds of fruit? It's like telling me sausages, ham, bacon, and pork chop all come from the same animal!!
Have you ever seen a blue monkey climbing a 200-meter palm tree? Haha.
But seriously, thanks a lot for the suggestions! About the soul counter, I actually like the idea of showing it more subtly with the graves. As for the bar for the next sacrifice, I just felt it would be unnecessary extra information, since in the end you’ll end up eating all the bananas anyway.
And about the palm tree… I won’t lie, I did think about it, but I decided to prioritize gameplay over consistency. Or do you think it’d be better to collect bananas while dodging… even more bananas? ;)
I hate when people tell me their age and I feel so old j/k j/k.
This is seriously impressive.
Read. Even non-gaming stuff. Malcolm Gladwell, Drive - book about motivation. Atomic Habits and bunch of other pop psych stuff about psychology. You never know where you might find interesting ideas, approaches, or philosophies to apply in your games.
Awesome!! I have no words for the graphics... just perfect <3
The concept is amazing! Good luck with the Jam!!
The dodging was a bit jarring to get used to at first, but the gameplay is quite fun and rewarding. Visuals are also super polished!
The CRT feel is really nice, lends a lot to the overall style of the game. I like the natural sense of progression this game has, it feels like you are actually working towards something and getting better. Great work!
This reminds me of that one mario party 8 minigame about monkeys dodging coconuts but way more fun! good game
Awesome art and graphics, gameplay needs a bit more variation though This would be cool as a mobile game with more content!
