This is actually sooo cool and fun to play around with! I liked how the game gradually led you to construct an increasingly complex mechanism. Actually reminds me of the Minecraft Create mod, it's very rewarding seeing your (admittedly spagitty-like) mechanism grow.
Although, as expected, you eventually enter the chaos realm (I'm actually surprised how long it stayed orderly given that it's a pure physics simulation). And then you learn to cheese it with the chaotic nature of physics (which is, admittedly, also quite fun for a while).
I'm not sure how you would solve the chaotic problem, though. Perhaps a "seamless level system" (a new area opens up upon completing a certain goal) could work to some extent?
Looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with in the future of this project!
I'm sorry for making this "master piece" :)
Oh wow, this was such a fun comment to read! Thank you for spending so much time playing (and getting the high-score) in my game! I'm glad you had a fun time playing it.
Figuring out how to keep the player from cheesing the physics will certainly be a challenge - and the next thing I try to tackle. I have a feeling the scoring is closely related to this issue: I can't keep the player from cheesing the physics, but I can at least try to make it less optimal. I have a few thoughts on how to keep this from happening, but I'm open to input. Feel free to DM me if you have any ideas! (I will admit, I thought the penalty would keep the player from spamming platforms everywhere, but I guess when you have 1000+ targets hit it stops mattering too much...)
Also, I can't even imagine how awful your 'master piece' run sounded. I hope your ears are okay after that :)
Incredibly chill toy-like game. Nice to see another music inspired project like mine.
It was a bit unclear to me how the score was calculated. The amount resets at a certain condition, but I was not sure, so I just kept trying to hit the targets.
Interesting take. More like a cozy game to relax to. Great job!
The scoring system could definitely use a bit of work; its probably priority #1 after the jam finishes. For now, the score resets whenever you edit the marble run (so you can't discard your platforms to boost your score mid-run).
Glad you enjoyed the vibes, and thanks for playing!
Beautiful work! Everything coming to together is incredibly satisfying
This hits my nostalgia with the incredible machine. Good twist to the theme! I like it. Congratulations :D
Woah, I forgot about the incredible machine! This was a fun little reminder. It's a big complement that my game reminded you of that. Thanks for playing!
What a pleasant and polished experience! The idea of turning marble runs into little music pieces is such an inspired choice and is so well realized in this game--I love the layer of polish the game seems to have with its unified visual style and pleasing audio.
A real treat of a digital toy--very fun to play with!
It's so nice to hear about the people my game resonated with! It gives me lots of motivation to continue developing it, especially since it was such a fun game to work on. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment!
Really impressive work and so much fun to play! When everything comes together it's really beautiful
Thank you! Comments like this make me smile :)
I played a fair amount of Orbit, and had a blast! I love game jams: I get to play so many fun projects.
Really cool, when things lined up this was immensely satisfying
pretty cool i was going to go for a similar kind of mechanic before i decided on bullet hell
Thanks! I played your game earlier today, and really liked it! The direction you took ended up being very fun.
oh wow. this was great. i've always been a huge fan of marble runs and procedural music so this was pretty nail on the head for me. would love to understand how the scoring works a little more, but other than that i had a wondrous time, thank you
Thanks for playing! I took a lot of inspiration from the Turing Tumble (a physical marble-run puzzle game), but wanted to see what I could add using the digital medium - and the music arose from that. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I added a section in the description about scoring: that was a good idea. I'm glad you had fun!
Such a very nice Idea! :) Well done, quite a lot of fun to experiment to get different rhythms out of the positioning of the platforms!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun challenge getting the music to sound appealing, no matter how the platforms were set up.
Thanks for playing!
