Really fun arcade-y loop trying to keep the gas level up to keep going! Loved the way the space kept changing as well, and the screen wrapping was very much appreciated when the rock count was high! Awesome work!
thanks!
VERY interesting mechanic that i think could be perfected with some quality of life changes. the visual cues instead of gauges takes a moment to get used to but i definitely prefer it. main menus that work with the game title / theme? marvelous.
could be my brain, sometimes though it felt like the road would loop in a way that my car didn't loop which could be part of the challenge, i might be missing something, yet i feel like the momentum and game loop would be more beneficial if these two acted on the same principals.
Thank you!! The road does loop the same. Actually, under the hood, an invisible car just like the player is driving around and road spawns under it. Sometimes the corners look weird though, so that could be it
ah yeah! i think the corners looking weird is what threw me off. and that's SUCH a cool way of doing it!!! thank you for sharing the behind the scenes scoop. :)
Awesome work on this, I love a good arcade-y "get the high score" game. I was also inspired to make an arcade-y game for this Jam. I like the number of different targets you put in this game and the decisions it forces you to make. "Do I go after the golden sprint for the extra points, or do I veer off course for that can of gas? Is driving in the grass worth it?" The boost mechanic was fun, and it was a really smart decision to let the player bank multiple of those. And the temptation to run off road to get those is high, because they give you invulnerability when you need to blast through some obstacles. Overall, very well thought out gameplay! Cheers!
Thank you so much!
The idea is simple but quite unique and fun! I really like how you can loop around the sides of the screen and also how the road gets formed as the game continues! I had a great time playing this! I have one simple suggestion: sometimes when the road overlaps with itself, its hard to tell where the road is moving. I think an easy fix would be to make the road pieces get a little darker over time, that way you can tell where the newest and oldest pieces of roads are. Overall I really liked this game and thought it was really unique, great job!
Thank you! That is a fantastic suggestion! I will try that and see how it looks! I also kinda like the chaos of not knowing where it goes though haha
Fun arcade game :). I loved the sound design in this one, how balanced it is and the strategic elements like otimize the route and planning your boosts. Good job :D
normal mode high score: 5057
Hard mode High score: 1885
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed. Nice scores!
A simple but nice game! The graphics and visuals are good, and fit nicely. The idea fits the theme nicely too. Some minor nitpicking would be more visual indicators (such as a gas tank) and continious music playing (I'd recommend Unity's Object.DontDestroyOnLoad). Additionally in the "Edit Game" section, I'd recommend turning off the full-screen button option (which you can safely do, just don't alter the builds), because your Unity build already provides one. Overall, well done!
Thanks for the feedback! No gas tank was an intentional design choice, but I agree some other visual indicator would make it clearer. I do have continuous music, maybe it is disabled by default? Or do you mean it resets when a new scene loads, because that's a good point. Ah I did not know about the fullscreen button, thanks for that!
I meant the music resetting. It’s just minor nitpicking though. The full-screen mishap is quite common among the Unity games - a bit of an unknown thing.
Gotcha! No I agree, I'm happy to hear minor nitpicks instead of ego shattering complaints lol. Thanks again!
A very simple game that fits the theme perfectly, I like it
Cool game! I thought the points in the corner was my remaining gas at first, so I thought I was doing great until I saw the smoke turn black and realized I might have been wrong about that...
Thanks! Haha yeahhh black smoke is usually not a good sign!
Love how the driving works, really cool game! Making the gas gauge clearer would have been helpful, I only realized that it was the smoke because you mentioned it below. Great game all around!!
thank you! yeah I regret not putting it in the tutorial but oh well! it's a hard line to balance. thanks for the feedback
I couldn't see a visual cue for the fuel gauge but I could hear one I think. However I really enjoyed the driving physics, great job
thank you! the smoke coming out of the car is the best indicator!
Ahh yes I see it now thanks
The game's concept is fun, at first it might seem simple, but then you really have to make your way through all those obstacles. The tutorial is very nice, explaining all the mechanics step by step. I was looking for an indicator to see how much fuel was left, but it’s actually shown through the exhaust smoke effect, a much more creative idea, nice job!
thank you for the kind words! yup I prefer avoiding UI if I can help it!
got 1780 score! This is actually a really fun game, great work! :D
thanks!! nice score :)
Fun game you've got here! Enjoyed the different mechanics and overall presentation. Definitely could be expanded upon in the future :)
love the idea
I can't deny, that drift feels so good to use haha! This is really fun, I love the dirt and grass mechanics, feels really satisfying to try and stay on the dirt as much as possible. The boost is really cool too!
I love the main menu, the way the menu buttons are part of the dirt track, it's all thematically really cool. Nice work :)
I appreciate the feedback! haha yes the drift is fun, in my playtesting people were enjoying the tutorial too much and just drifting instead of reading lol
Fun game! I loved that you implemented UI elements directly into the game (gas level)!!
thank you! yes I hate UI cluttering up the screen, I'm glad I went with this approach
Really fun game! Like the dirt idea and the boost to destroy obstacles! Nicely done!
glad you enjoyed! the boost is my favorite part
Nice idea and enjoying gameplay.
That's really fun to play. I like the idea to have to try to follow the road to lose less gas and go faster or taking a risk to go in the grass to get some bonus. I have to admit that the screen wrapping really fuck my mind ahah but i succeeded to get a score of 3044 in hard mode
Yes!! I'm glad you enjoyed! haha that's the goal, nice score!
Hell yeah dude - good game
THANK YOU MY DUDE
