congrats on submitting! I gather from your itch page you're fairly new to game dev so it's an accomplishment to get anything submitted for a jam this quick. I have two suggestions for you to look into for future growth:

  • Research color theory
    • understanding and applying color theory well will do more for your visuals than almost anything else
  • do a deeper dive into your tools
    • for example: I noticed your logo appears a bit blurred. In Unity you need to disable a particular filter in order to fix that problem with pixel art. idk what tool you used but make sure you know those options and how to turn them on

Best of luck on your game dev journey! Keep it up!!

Developer

Genuinely thanks for this amount of feedback. I haven't thought of looking into color theory before but I definitely will now. And FYI I used a graphics library (SFML) with C++ rather than unity but you're right about that. Thanks again!

It's a basic concept but it can definitely be expanded on, with more fleshed out levels and mechanics. Had an issue with bullets ignoring collision (maybe related to framerate?). So I could basically just shoot them through the boxes :P

Developer(+1)

I think it's because I forgot to set a frame rate limit. But thanks for playing and for the feedback!

It could be expanded as a concept and with higher quality it could become a simple puzzle game. It's an original interpretation of the theme, but the execution could be polished.

Developer(+1)

Yup, needs some heavy polish. Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

Neat little game, lots of room to expand!

Windows doesn't let me download it. It says its a virus. What do I do?

Submitted

There should be a button that says "More info" and then another buttons shows up saying "Run Anyway"

Submitted

It isn't when I try to run the executable it's when I try to download the file. I'm downloading from the browser Opera GX.

Submitted

See if edge works? Im not familiar with OperaGX

Submitted

I tried it with edge but it still didn't work. Is it with windows security? Do I need to disable it somehow?

Submitted(+1)

yeah probably, i guess your computer doesn't like zip folders

Submitted

It's not a virus, just go on more options and select "Run Anyways"

Really fun concept, if it was more polished with more mechanics ( bullet bounce, walls and ect...) this could be a legitimate concept to work with for a larger scale game.

Developer

Really appreciate the feedback. Will probably continue this as a larger project.

Setup Instructions: Extract all files from the zip. Open the uncompressed folder. Go to "BehindYouWindows", then "exe", then the "Behind You" executable. If a popup appears press "More Info" and the "Run Anyways". Don't worry, it's not malware.

A Minor Note: Resizing the window makes the game messed up.

Another Minor Note: The escape key gets you back to the menu.

Thanks to anyone who tries this out and good luck!
