This game was a lot of fun. Graphics were good, the levels were short which is great. Music fit and the sounds were good. There were a few times like the double jump where I got stuck and accidentally got past it. I started to ask about the ratings, but they had nothing to do with time and only objectives, right? The cubbies were a bit odd because it just ate up so much time for the owner to come etc. I'd rather just start over if I'm being timed. The destruction was fun, especially the pillows! Purrpetrator was a great name! I think Cat Smash Fever would have worked too. haha.

Well done!

awww thanks so much for the kind review! I put in the completion times just for extra incentive for those who want to break their previous time records, you can complete the entire game with full stars and still take your time :). Sorry if that was not clear.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback 😁

The double-jump was quite hidden, and there may have been a few objects that made the platforming a little difficult.

This was a cute game, and almost any cat owner would appreciate the grievances. Bonus points if they have a dog too.

The environment was very impressive for a jam. It was neat to see all the different objects in the room, and the ability to interact (and animate them) was really neat to see.

The music was nice. The piano later on really added some more “feels” to the environment. I’d recommend having the songs progress/change-tracks automatically, rather than waiting until later in the game (if I understood it correctly).

Maybe add a random puking location (on carpet or a rug of course) would be a nice extra mess making opportunity. An upgrade for some “zoomies” to get a boost of speed for big jump distances could be fun.

Great work, keep it up!

Thanks so much for feedback!

So many ideas, thank you for the awesome feedback!!

I had a lot of fun designing and decorating a bunch of the levels, though I can't take credit for the music. It actually is one track that adds more layers & instruments the more you make mess/build the mess meter at the top of the screen, it's just that there's a very small amount of mess you have to make in the earlier levels that you don't notice it until later. But it's technically there from the beginning!

We did think of a few cool things that the catnip could actually do like zoomies, make the controls wobbly/reversed momentarily etc, but just didn't spend time on the right things  in the end. Would love to continue working on this in the future though to tighten the loop and add more features like the ones you suggested 😁

Well done! My 6yo daugther and I had a lot of fun. She liked the jumping most :)

The look & feel is cute, fitting, and overall pretty consistent considering you used some third party assets (hope that doesnt come across the wrong way - using different sources for assets sometimes results in things looking stitched together, that's not the case here, so well done!). The music fits the atmosphere so well, too! Although it does get a bit repetitive towards the end.

I didnt quite get what the cat is doing inside the cat tree(?), cardboard box and toilet - is it taking a dump? If so, the signalling wasnt entirely clear to me, but I get that it's hard to communicate without being too explicit :)

Overall, really well done!

Well you've got yourselves a hardcore fan over here. My 6yo keeps asking to play :) she made it to level 16 all by herself already.

Developer

That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing. You are correct in that we stitched together different assets, we did so for time and casual build as a game jam, :) The cat entering the different hidey holes, as I named them, aka the box, cathouse, toilet, is for hiding to not being caught by the girl, who investigates why dog is barking and calms it down. If cat is not hiding while she is there, then level fails by cat being caught, and can retry level. It is a way to still finish a level even if you accidentally get seen by dog.

Developer

Thanks for the feeback and glad your daughter loved it, she was actually part of our target audience after all!

And you're right that's something most people struggled with; including us! We wanted to have a way to hide from the dog even after it starts chasing after you, but we also wanted to avoid too many explicit tutorials. I think what may have been better would be to have a level with the hide spot and the dog in the same level, with no way to progress BUT using the hiding spot, in order to make it a little more obvious. Another thing Zackavelli said on the stream was to perhaps make it a different button to reinforce that it doesn't have anything to do with making a mess.

the art of this game is pretty good. i am a dog person and seeing the dog cry makes me sad.

mechanically, very solid, not buggy. the left-right control in the air could use some work, but overall pretty good.

Developer

I’m also a dog person, was a tough sound effect to add lol

I liked the look and feel of the game, but I think in some cases the textures didn't match well with the art style. Parts of the UI also didn't match the rest of the art.

The different mechanics, like the stealth in levels with the dog, made for some interesting variety.

Impressive amount of levels for a jam game.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Definitely a fair point, we stretched ourselves quite thin with the number of levels, so the quality of each level wasn't as high as it would've been if we only had 10 levels.

Which parts of the UI were you talking about that didn't match?

I think the main menu buttons looked a bit out of place. Not a big deal, but I thought it was a pity that it dragged down the overall look and feel.

That was a cute little game!

The gamedesign was amazing and really loved the mood and feeling of the game.

The game was for me just sometimes a bit linair and repatetive, if you guys can work on that it would be an amazing game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words!

The target audience is definitely for a younger crowd so we err'd on the side of caution and didn't want to overwhelm players, but there are some fun tricks you can pull off with the balls at least ;)

Did you make it to the end?
