The artstyle looks to have potential if worked upon more, some bgm would have improved the atmostphere too. The game was playing on a bit low fps for some reason. But I did liked your vision here what were you trying to achive. Great effort!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the constructive feedback! I agree that music would have added more to the atmosphere, and i am sorry about the optimization, I lack time for play testing on other computers. Thanks for trying it out and for the encouragement!

uhh I think I broke the game

Seriously though, the driving around was pretty awesome! The boosts you receive in this game after timing 3 loops felt like mario kart! The screenshots were definitely enticing. I thnk I was supposed to rob the bank, but all I was told was to 'Remember: blue blue', but I couldn't quite figure it out. Racing around the track was an awesome experience!

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback! The Mario Kart comparison is so nice, I'm glad the boost felt that satisfying! You're right about the objective being confusing, my bad for not having time for a proper in-game tutorial. You were supposed to drive through the colored blocks on the road in that "blue blue" order. The minimap being broken does not help as it was supposed to display the banks and player positions. But honestly, I'm just thrilled you had a great time racing around anyway. That's a huge win!

Submitted(+1)

was a bit laggy for me too <3 but i enjoy the concept as an avid crazy taxi fan, we love to see its legacy continuing - the screenshots look epic <3

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for the kind words! as a  crazy taxi fan myself, that compliment means the world to me. I'm sorry to hear it was laggy, definitely it still needs a lot of optimization, the post-jam update will improve this. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Might be the laggiest game I ever played on here. It needs serious optimization improvements but from the gifs you put I can tell it is otherwise a good game.

Developer

i'm really sorry to hear the game ran poorly for you, thank you for giving it a try anyway and for the honest feedback. Optimization is definitely a part I have to work on a lot more for the post-jam update,  hope you will enjoy it more. I appreciate you taking the time to look at the GIFs and see the potential beyond the performance issues. Thank you! :)

It looks amazing and driving through the city feels cool. Yet, I just don't know what to do haha. And sound would have helped a lot. Still pretty enjoyable

Developer

Thanks for the kind words on the visuals and the gameplay! yeah, the lack of an in-game tutorial and sound are two big things I had to sacrifice to get it submitted on time. I added explanations on the game logic in the description if you to give it another try :) really appreciate you playing and finding it enjoyable even with those key parts missing!

Submitted(+1)

The driving itself felt really fun, and I enjoyed just driving around the city even though I didn't quite understand what to do. Gamejam's are tough though, so no worries there! Good work!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad the core driving was enjoyable enough :) the "what to do" part is totally on me, the in-game tutorial was one of the first things I had to cut for time, I tried adding explanations in the page description if you want to give a go again . You're right, game jams are tough! Thanks a ton for playing and for taking the time to give feedback!

It was a little tough to navigate without some sort of indicator of where I was on the map (at least, I didn't see one), and I clipped through the floor at one point and landed somewhere else on the map???

Fever dream. But the taxi feels good to control and picking up speed and drifting around corners without hitting stuff is very satisfying! I like it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! "Fever dream" is honestly the best description for the chaotic vibe I was going for, haha. I'm so glad the driving and drifting felt satisfying!

You're 100% right about the navigation, the minimap is supposed to show the player and banks positions, but it was broken on the last build, a classic jam tragedy. As for clipping through the floor... let's call that an unintended shortcut feature! Thanks for looking past the jank and having fun with it!!! :)

Submitted(+1)

Jank is what gives jam games there charm! It's interesting to get an idea of how everything was put together!

The physics and the complexity of the city is pretty remarkable stuff. I personally struggled a lot with figuring out where to go. I know you mentioned there is a sequence to memorize, but for the life of me I just can't seem to navigate my way around the city properly. Most of that is just due to me as a player, but it would help if there were a few unique landmarks within the city.

It felt great to take off on a fully-charged nitro blast, and the UI for the nitro & map were both great. I may have struggled to get a grasp on this game, but I can easily recognize the skills you have, and the high level of execution on this game. Great work!

Developer

Wow, thank you for this incredibly kind and detailed comment! Please don't blame yourself for the navigation issues at all, that's 100% on me, I broke the minimap and only managed to fix it five minutes after the submissions ended, the minimap is essential for the navigation as it's supposed to display the player position T_T Your suggestion for unique landmarks is good tho, the post-jam update will me much clearer with a bigger map and more variety in the level design.

Honestly, it means the world to me that you were able to look past those major flaws and still appreciate the parts that worked! :) Your comments about the execution and skill are incredibly encouraging, giving me even more motivation for the post-jam update! Thank you so much for giving it a try and for sharing such heartwarming feedback :)

I like the nitrous minigame, and the forced forward motion gave the game a unique feel compared to other racing games. Looping around the block and coming back to pick up robbers is also a very clever use of the theme. All visually stunning too!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback and the kind words on the gameplay and visuals!

Great visual design, lot of fun!

Developer

Thank you so much!

I liked the nitro mechanic, I kept trying to hit the sweet spot and go for max speed! But the map seems a bit small to me for the breakneck speed you have implemented, maybe scale it up a bit and some more traight roads so we can live out our speed. I like the black, blue, yellow color scheme but the car itself could use some detail. Also the minimap felt kind of pointless as I never knew where my position in it is. All in all could use more polish but still well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for this incredibly detailed and constructive feedback! This is super helpful. I'm thrilled you had fun with my game! You're absolutely right about the map size, I'm already making it bigger for the post-jam update and with some boss fights and incredible police chase on straight lines with epic music, even some loops around bigger buildings! The minimap is completely broken in the jam version, I fixed it like five minutes after the jam ended, it was a silly bug that I created in the rush T_T I really appreciate you looking past the rough edges. Thanks for the awesome suggestions and I'm sure you will enjoy it even more with the post-jam update!

I tried to make it work a few times and the interface/game kept doing weird stuff sadly for me (no sound, map/boost taking the whole screen...) ; the gifs preview gifs looks nice though and I still quite enjoyed the art style, I think others had fun playing this one!

Developer(+1)

I'm so sorry you ran into such major technical issues! thank you for trying multiple times to get it working. I did not have enough time for playtesting on different browsers/computers, so that's no surprise, sorry about that. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment anyway and for the feedback.

Submitted(+1)

Pretty cool! Think there may be annoying invisible walls sometimes, or maybe it's just a curb I can't get top of, like the physics tho. I once flew too high, crashing into a building, and got stuck. Great work! :D

Developer

Thanks for playing! The collisions are pretty rough, and need improvements, haha. I'm glad you still had fun with the janky physics! Being stuck in buildings is exactly why I added a respawn button xD Thanks feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, even if I had a hard time turning haha. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you still had a good time, the controls are hard to master haha Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

Pretty visuals with the bloom and film grain, though it did make the game chug on my PC a little bit. Also, like someone else said, the controls are a bit tough to use and I didn’t really feel the brakes work at all? Regardless, this is nice work!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the visual style. I agree, it still needs a lot of optimization to be fully enjoyable. the brakes are actually just for slowing the car and doing drifts, not for stopping, maybe I should make this clearer, it's mapped to the B key but maybe it's a different key on some keyboards?  I really appreciate you playing and giving feedback, thank you!

Submitted(+1)

You have a really cool concept on your hands. Personally I felt the turning to be quite hard to control, but other than that, I love how you incorporated the theme. Good job :D

Developer

Thank you for the wonderful feedback! I'm happy you liked the concept! The steering is definitely hard to master, I tried making it easier with the braking, but it still needs to be polished. Thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

So much flashing yellow everywhere! This is so fun and very polished

Also I noticed you mentioned on a lot of games that you have  a mac. You've got good taste but you should really get a PC for game jams lol.

Developer

Thank you for playing my game! I'm glad you found it fun. And haha, you caught me! First jam with a mac, and the struggle is real, there is a lot of windows only games :(

Submitted(+1)

That's how I felt when I was working at uber! Stunning visuals, well done!

Developer(+1)

Haha, if my uber driver is drifting I'm definitely giving five stars xD Thank you so much for the kind words on the visuals, it means a lot!

(+1)

I really like the concept and visuals. Ran into some physics and collision issues but glad you programmed a respawn button.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing my game and for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it. The physics definitely needs an update, I tried my best in three days :) Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

I really like your visual style here. The glowy low-poly look is clean and really eye catching. I had a fair bit of trouble finding where I needed to go next but it sounds like the minimap fixes you made post-jam would probably help a great deal with that. Reminds me a bit of Crazy Taxi but vaporwave, which is always a good thing!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Crazy Taxi is the main inspiration so that's an amazing compliment! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the visual style. The post-jam update will make navigating so much easier. Thanks for playing and for the awesome feedback!
