Very clever mechanic! I like how it's all about deciding between which obstacles you're immune too and how fast you go through these tunnels. Also I'm fond of the pixel-styled graphics. I had a lot of fun playing many rounds to try to go further and further (some depth counter or so would be a nice add indeed).
There is also room for smoothing a bit the movement and adding some animations. Currently, moving the player horizontally is instant: you could add some inertia to this (just a tad so that it doesn't raise difficulty too much). And the player and obstacles could benefit from a basic animation (even a 2-frame one).
Still a very clean game overall, congratulations!
ahh tyty! especially appreciate the feedback from the person who made one of my favourite games this jam :D
i'll keep in mind the suggestions on the visuals + animation - this is more-or-less my first proper attempt at a pixel-style game and definitely have a lot to learn as a result!
Cool little game, but a though one. It´s very difficult to survive more than 30 seconds… In the positive side, I like a lot the simplicity and visual design of the game, and the solid gameplay.
I wrote some suggestions, and I could add one more: using the UP arrow to offer a little air brake with an energy bar (resistance, balance… whatever). This could help in some parts (when there are a lot of bats with colors that don’t match) with a score malus, or something.
Also, a quick restart button, as Anagh said! It´s a great project. I want to see the next advance!! ^^
nice little game... loved the concept of heat level and how we need to match it with objects while falling ...only what i missed was a quick restart button ...but overall nice entry for the jam :)
Fun idea. Love the visuals, it's really clean. Can't wait to see how it's developed over the next couple of weeks.
ahhh tyty im glad u liked it
Incredibly fun game, with a strong concept and a pretty good execution. Given the time constraints, I can't complain about the gameplay at all - it's got such a good feel, controls well & is responsive, the difficulty of the various sections is in a pretty good and consistent range, and the speed and colours are telegraphed well. I'd like the yellow and the orange to be a bit more distinct (maybe shift the orange up to red?) but otherwise, the art and theming is really good! Definitely incredibly replayable, if you had managed to get the depth/score feature in I would totally be playing this over and over to try and beat my high score. Great contribution to the jam! :^)
It took a few deaths for me to understand that the color of thing you can crash into is dependent on your heat level, and then a few more deaths to still fail :)
I like how the art, sound, and gameplay all come together. Very playable considering the time!
Tyty for your kind words :D
The instructions could definitely be revamped to read more clearly - you aren't the first person to not quite get said mechanic. It's just hard to balance conveying required information with brevity as to not overload the player ahaha.
simple gameplay and cute art. as a fan of Downwell I'm probably biased but this is one of the better games in the jam, though I would like to see a more readable measure of your speed. All in all great use of 3 hours and good luck for next week!
Thanks for the feedback!
I had actually made the required assets for a 'speed meter' but unfortunately ran out of time to implement it - will defo seek to add it for the next TriJam
Things we wanted to add but didn't have time for (put here to give context and to help w criticism)
