How does your game fit the theme?
Loop-de-loops! Also the level repeats until you've found enough spirals.

There was a third-party library I used for random number generation (actually an MD5 checksum library, for reasons); some non-game-specific stuff comes from previous games I made.

I loved how the collectible sounds changed pitch according to the music

Cute little game. I like the music, especially how the collectables harmonize with it. I'm a sucker for dynamic music. I like how you interpreted the theme in several different ways. However, I think I got softlocked at one point. The game didn't spawn enough collectables for me to move on.

great game!

cute little duckling <3, but pleeaase add jump to space. Having it on Z is very evil design :D

Developer

I actually did consider at the beginning having a part that takes place in outer spac—

Oh.  You meant space bar.  Controls are rebindable in the options menu.

Submitted

Damnn, did not expect rebindable keys in a jam. Neat. hmmm space ducks .. sounds intriguing

I love the water slides!  The movement is really fun here.  This may sound odd but playing this game me sonic 3 split-screen-time trial vibes.  Great job!

Submitted

the movement on the water slides was really fun! i think to emphasize that these are actually water slides you could add some water splashing particles whenever you land on a slide and just in general while youre sliding! good job!

Hmm… is this really a game made in pure JS?
And it really feels like a true rhythm game, because the music and the spiral sounds overlap perfectly.
I really liked it, even though I didn’t immediately understand the timer mechanics.
Thank you so much for such an unusual game!
I haven’t really seen anything quite like this before — it’s rare to come across such a cool combination of activity and control. Thank you!

Yes, the entire thing is in JavaScript, with very little third-party code (although I've been pretty much building my own framework, sort of, over the years, since I've been doing it this way since the year of the first GMTK jam).  The graphics and sound are also in JavaScript (a bunch of calls to the Canvas and Web Audio APIs), which the music as a big string literal in a format I came up with.

This is very cool! You are great:)

Very interesting game! I love ducks :)

An enjoyable game loop, and an interesting idea. The loops were fun.

such a cute duck! and you even hat time to make a full settings screen well done!

Submitted

Fun how collecting the spirals on beat kind of added to the music!

Short and chill game! I felt it got a bit repetitive at some point but after a while the map changed and felt refreshing again, so based on the description that might have been intended! I wasn't too keen that the default controls were not very friendly, specifically with the jump button. However, being able to remap the controls helps quite a lot for that! Regardless, congrats on the game!

Submitted

Cute game! Nothing wrong with a classic loop-de-loop! The slides feel fun to ride and the way each level repeats smoothly is great. However, I was a little surprised when the jump button wasn't W/Up Arrow like what I'm used to for jump. Just a small nitpick, I was able to adapt to it. Great work!

Developer

Controls are remappable (although up for jump does prevent up from working in the menus... maybe that's something I should look into changing in the post-jam version).  But my experience has been that usually platformers have jump on the opposite hand from movement (thinking e.g. Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, etc.), and Z for jump is consistent with the computer platforms I've played (e.g. Freedom Planet, and I think Celeste's default control scheme is around that same area of the keyboard) which is why I chose that.

Submitted

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification! Good to hear the controls are remappable :)

Developer

Now I'm curious what games have up/W for jump.

Submitted

Some fighting games I've played have W/Up to jump. Most platformers I've played have Space or W/Up as an alternative, unfortunately I can't name them off the top of the head, they must have been newer gen. I've definitely played different platforming games than you, but it's all good!

Really relaxing and cute game! Awesome stuff!

Love it when you mess up you can just go right and the level resets seamlessly, you don't have to press a restart button. More games should do this.

Submitted

Great concept and the art and song really make it feels cozy!

Submitted

absolutely love that the piano sounds on pickup interact with the BGM. also really fun when you build up a lot of speed

Submitted

Cool concept and art. Fits the theme very well. Felt a bit like line rider. There were a few things that made be quit before i finished it. Would have loved to complete it.

Moving slow in the water was a bit frustrating when you failed the levels and couldn't get back onto the slides to get back to the start faster. And a few times I jumped over the reset timer since i went to fast, or the timer wasnt up and moved past it and didnt reset.

The timing of the grapple was a to difficult and couldnt get the long jump after picking the magnet.  gave up after about 30-40 tries i was so frustrated ( need to get good ). .. failed a clouple of times i because i didnt have the magnet or the timer went out since it was my second roundt and the timer didnt reset.

I was not expecting to play this game for so long. Something that kept me engaged was the music. The music and sound design were just so fun, and I loved how picking up the spirals almost had a feeling of me creating music. Such a good game. For some improvements I would suggest changing the keybinds a little bit because I kept on trying to jump with the w or up arrow key. All in all, an awesome game.

I would also really appreciate it if you gave me feedback on my game.

Developer

As I mentioned in another comment, you can change the controls, but also most platformers I've played don't have up=jump (e.g. Mario, Sonic).

Super fun little game! Finding ways to build momentum was super fun and satisfying.  It seems like the point of the water is for it to be slow, but I  think it could have been fun to launch yourself out of the water by holding jump. Also, I think the move speed of the collectables when they magnetize to you could be a bit fast since I failed a couple of times to them not catching up to me fast enough.

Developer

"I  think it could have been fun to launch yourself out of the water by holding jump" That was a mechanic I considered but ended up not implementing.  (I was originally planning on having more of the game take place in the water, and sort of stopped working on the water mechanics when I decided not to do that.)
