An evil cult summoning of colossal proportions, leading a party of heroes to an epic resolution.
The objective and presentative layout directs the adventure in a simple and easy to follow manner, leaving an open endedness nature within its theme and setting, with an aggregate of creatures and enemies that can enrich the world they inhabit by the connections their relationship entail.
In the end, this high fantasy battle tale is akin to a boss fight level in a video-game, with great dynamic levels through each of its phases.
Well done, great module!
The cinematic beginning (an air battle between griffons and harpies), the giant creature threatening the PCs' home base, and powerful enemies to defeat all play really well to 5e's strengths as a system for epic battles and superheroics. My 5e group would have a blast with this one.
Real epic feel to this. Love the Kaiju theme and the creatures around it. Very readable font and layout. Nice work.
The good old-fashioned, functional dilemma of preventing the cult from awakening the creature. Very interesting is how the creature was imprisoned and the descriptions of the opening scenes. Beautiful art and layout.
I love the idea of the temple on the leviathan's head: very Appendix N. The structure of the scenario is very clear and there are some nice wrinkles added by environmental hazards. I wonder whether you could involve the leviathan itself a bit more? E.g. creatures spawning from its skin, a big hand swipes at the griffons, it can be distracted by piercing its skin or setting it on fire (so there are multiple ways to defeat it).
It's quite a feat to reach for such an epic scale in a crisp, tight format. Very skillful, tasteful art and design too.
I like how the fights have at least one other element involved to give them more flavor and tactics.
Well done, you’ve found the missing Ray Harryhausen movie! Reading through, I visualised this in 20th century stop motion rather than in recent cgi.
This is a death or glory mission as it reads, I guess the only way to use it in an ongoing campaign for visiting heroes is to give them some sort of escape mechanism to use if things go wildly wrong- it’s then up to the players to choose to use it and leave the city to its fate. They could take on some guilt effects or such in later games as a result.
So the question for the DM then becomes how do they get out.
Great set up, nice!
Hey! Great concept. Love some big monster fights. If I was going to run it at my table I would pad in some interaction with the protector guardian. Maybe have the cleric aligned with the sun god some extra bonus.
Man, this is serious in medias res. My only real concern is that this adventure seems to have only has two endings: Big win or colossal failure (probably a TPK). Many players are probably fine with this, some might not be. The linearity is a double-edged sword. Otherwise, the kitchen sink approach of stat blocks and tactical combat should be fun for an appropriately-levelled party wanting a cinematic experience. The mythic, monstrous tone is spot on for both your assigned title and the legacy of Appendix N. The art also ties everything together quite well.
Thank you! I also worried a bit about the binary-ness of it, but I figure for a one-shot it just ratchets up the tension. I’d be more wary of throwing this in the middle of a long-term campaign, but a TPK at the end of the night when you’ll never see those characters again anyway is a little less heartbreaking.
The story is really good. Loved the theme as well as the dungeon, just wanted a little more dungeon rooms, is really good but so short that i want more!!!
Really cool idea of a moving temple atop a leviathan - the fight complication table is also a nice touch. Always a fan of changing enviromental effects. Great Work!
