Nice idea,
But still getting to states where I cannot return, or when I return it does not recognize Im back. So some I guess need some little work to not run into these issues.

Developer

Yes it does. I've fix some on the patched version over on my profile.

Thank you for playing!

The artwork is really nice, and making a dynamically growing snake is quite impressive for a jam — honestly, I wouldn’t even know how to approach something like that!

In terms of gameplay, the interpretation of the "loop" theme is really interesting. I can see the ambition to build a sort of survival game, which is cool. The game definitely has potential, but I think it would help if you could build a new nest elsewhere to progress more easily through the level (which seems quite large).

Maybe it's already possible, but I couldn’t find another tree like the one at the start.

It's a real shame there’s no sound yet — there’s definitely something strong here.

Developer

Thank you so much! Yes there is only one "nest" tree. And the level is infinite. Yeah sound would really improve this. I'm working on that in the patched version.

Thank you so much for playing and for your feedback!

Really cool player character movement and art. I couldn't get it to proceed past the two bunnies tutorial text, but I did have fun exploring around. The snake may need a jump or something to reach higher points as I got trapped a few screens below the tree. Good job!

Developer

Yeah the text is glitched. You can check out the patched version on my profile if you'd like! Thanks for playing!

Your game is really creative and I love it, I really like the physics of the snake moving, it was so smooth and fun to play with!! great game! :)

Developer

Thank you! Means a lot!

Submitted

I didn't get very far but this is a neat game. Thing is scary.. is this a reference to John Carpenter's "The Thing"? The snake movement is quite good.

Developer

No... No reference lol. But thanks for playing! Preciatcha!

This was really cute! I loved the animations of both the snake and the monster, did you do them procedurally?

Unfortunately after I jumped down to hunt rabbits I couldn't find my way back to the tree, not sure if I did something wrong.

The art was also great, really cool submission ^^

Developer

Thanks! Yeah they are procedurally animated. Not the bunnies or goats but snake and Bark Monster are. And o you didn't really do anything wrong. You just have to be careful how far down you go.

Thank you for playing!

Nice game! I really like snake movement, it's really satisfying and that night monster, its procedural animation is great.

But after some time, if I fall few chunks down, game's fps drops and it starts to lag idk if it's my computer or unoptimized game.

All in all, really good game, I like it and its art!

Developer(+1)

No the game is optimized. It's just that the blood particles never despawning leads to smoking CPU. You can find the patched version over on my profile.

Thanks for playing!

I thought I was the tree at the beginning and then the snake appear when I moved around was charmed by that very cute.

Love the snake physics and the loop theme was well on point here. That monster sure was intimadating too, loved how he moved.

Awesome submission, fantastic job - I'm gonna see if I can get a bit further!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! You will have more success on the patched version as the framerate bug is fixed.

Submitted

This is so cool! I love the night monster! The little creatures in general were charming, I liked their look and animations.

The comments below highlight some great suggestions :

- making the tree hollow visible to show the snake in the beginning would help make more clear how to start

- there was a bit of a performance issue after first time eating two bunnies, wasn't sure if that objective was repeated intentionally

- looking forward to seeing this expanded more post-jam!

Great work!

Developer(+1)

Will definitely expand post-jam already working on it you can follow progress on my profile. There is also a patched version there give it a go!

Thank you so much for your comment!

it was interesting, the map changing each time give it a diff loop of gameplay.

i kinda got lost all the time, since the tree wasnt in the bottom i always ended up falling while exploring and didnt manage to come back, for some reason sometimes the skip time didnt work so i was trapped in eternal nigth, and if i was at night to far from the tree it gets laggy.

but im still trying to see the end on the  game, trusting the rng

Developer

Oh thank you! Yeah if you play the patched version it will be much less laggy and also easier. Over on my profile.

Thank you for your comment and for playing!

Here goes your feedback:

I really like the snake physics, how every animal moves, and the monster in the night! How scary with his procedural animation, right? :O

At first, I didn't know what I was controlling, the camera moved when I pressed WASD, but I wasn't sure why. Then I saw a snake come out of the tree, and understood that I control the snake. Maybe some telling, what you control, make the tree transparent for a few seconds and show the snake inside? To give the player an idea of what he's controlling.

After eating 2 bunnies, the text won't go away, like in the beginning, when the game tells you to go to sleep, and stay hidden. So when it's day time, It's a bit hard to understand that I have to eat 2 bunnies again. (Thought it was a bug, and I tried to eat a goat, I was too small)

Sometimes the tree doesn't detect when the snake goes inside.

Around the third night, after eating 2 bunnies and going to sleep, the monster would keep being alive because the sun won't come out.

Also, I love how the grass reacts with the wind! And the clouds :D

Hope to see further updates after the jam!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for your detailed feedback! Yes the text is broken in this version.  It's supposed to continue. If you want to check out the patched version over on my profile you could experience the true game. I've fixed a lot of the things you mentioned.

I think you just gave me a great idea too! I will draw a little hole in the ground and then when you go into the tree fade the cover to transparent so you can see the snake down in there. That'd be so cool! Thank you!

Also as for the sun not coming out, you have to eat more and more every night. So you may have needed to eat 3 by that night. I will add some visual indication of when you're full so that you will know when to go back to the tree.

And thank you for your compliment! Those clouds and grass are both made with the power of shaders.

Thank you so much for your time and feedback! Preciatcha!

You are welcome! Thanks for playing my game too ;)

Nice game, i think some place it got stuck but it's ok , you can fix it , and it really goes super cool

Developer

Thanks!

The idea is definitely cool. Reminds me of both Snake Pass and Rain World. I couldn't get back up after I fell down though. Could also definitely use some sound effects.

Developer

Yeah for sure need to add sounds. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

This is a great idea, very well put together!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Preciatcha!

Fun concept and I liked the animations a lot. It was a bit frustrating trying to get back to the tree after going downwards, though, and I never found the way back. Snake controlled well, though, overall fun game.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Very interesting entry and I like how when you keep holding the W key, the snake can "stand" upright and that makes me laugh xD. I also liked the art, they looks awesome. I'm not too sure is the game doesnt have any audio or my laptop have some issue playing the audio but I don't hear any sound. Overall, pretty fun game and really liked it! Well done.

Developer

Thank you! No it's not you. I didn't have any time for audio during the jam )`: But thank you for playing!

Submitted

Liked the concept! Couldn’t quite figure out moving up after falling down. With some polish and music, this would be a lot of fun!

Developer

Yes definitely needs music. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I love how your snake has a fat belly from food.  And its traversal animation is cool when you descend stairs.  Fun game and Great artwork. Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Submitted

I couldn't figure out how to get back up after going a little deeper, so I kept searching for a new tree to sleep in, but it never came :(
The world felt lively and the monster looked cool. Moving around as snake was fun too. I wished I had made it further to grow big enough to defeat the monster, but oh well. Good job on the game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! There's just one tree. I guess I could change that... That's a cool idea actually! Maybe I'll do that! Thank you for your feedback!

Submitted

Great!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!
