  • I like the setup for the game. Being the only remaining flame jumping between flammable objects is a neat mechanic and a good use of the theme. Jumping from the body to the flammable objects and back worked very well, and I could see how the challenge would develop as the game advanced. It did feel like the candle body moved exceptionally slowly. Even knowing it's a part of the puzzle timing, it really just felt like getting into position was a slog. Especially after failing a challenge multiple times. On that note, I think the 3rd level is broken, the candles being too far apart to perform the jumps with the body in the correct position. Artistically, I enjoyed the limited color pallet and the minimalistic music. Plenty to create atmosphere while keeping the focus on the puzzle itself. This is a great baseline. Lots of room to develop and expand on the concepts and mechanics presented. Great job!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarize your game!
The Night King has destroyed all light in the world. Except for our Flame.
Being unextinguishable, the Night King captured him and threw him in his dungeons.
But maybe our flame can find a way out...
Being the only flame in the world, his fire cannot spread. There can only be one flame at a time.

The goal of each level is to find the exit and escape before using up your finite resource of wax. Use our Flame's only skill Flame Jump to jump to flammable object. Maybe it will help you see further, get to otherwise inaccessible areas, or maybe even change your environment. You can always Flame Jump back to your candle body.

To Flame Jump, get within acceptable distance to flammable object and get the object in your crosshair. A highlight of the object will show that it is interactable.

Torches will have a stronger flame, increasing the distance the player can see, as well as Flame Jump.

Sconces has effects on the environment. Listen for what changes and see if you can utilise the difference before the timer runs out.

In certain areas, the player will find flammable rope. Flame Jump to the rope to burn and snap it off, changing the environment, maybe making a path to the exit.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
The Night King has extinguished all light in the world except one - the flame. Our Flame has been sentenced by The Night King to imprisonment, since he cannot extinguish him. The player sees this in effect in the dungeon when the flame can jump to other objects, but only one flame is ever present. Fire is no longer spreadable, there is only one.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
We initialy aimed to use FMod but when exporting to webm we realized that it isnt compatible.

Cool game, but it felt like the 3rd level wasn't possible!

Interesting mechanic. I also like the theme of the night king snuffing all the flames. I found the character walked too slow. I understand the mechanic of the walking using the wick timers, but I think movement still could have been faster. Especially with the timer being only exactly the amount of time needed for the puzzle. No time to figure out the puzzle. I found on the third level the candles were out of range for me. But it's a great concept. I would like to see the game further developed.

Heya, I was interested to try this out to see how you guys implemented the idea of limited wax candle. What a coincidence that our team also finalized on similar ideas, great minds do think alike XD

I seem to get stuck at the third level, are you meant to be able to jump to that candle to go to the next one? It is out of range for me.

What a coincidence, two flames of innovation! Yes, that is the right way to solve the puzzle
