That was a very fun read! The artstyle is a treat and I loved the aesthetic! The writing is great too, got me chuckling like a moron for the whole read lmao (the jet joke was hilarious).

The designs are unique and have a lot of personality, just like the writing!

The ending is a 10/10, best foreshadowing ever.

Great job, love it! ^^

Thanks a lot! Haha I liked the ending too.

Really unique. With awesome art and a great story.

Had a bit of a hard time with some of the earlier mazes, as there wasn't much contrast between the lines for the mazes and the background mech.

Still, great job though!

Thanks a lot!

Haha this is sweet, the vibe kinda reminds me of Jesse Moynihan's old comic 'Forming'. Really sweet style!

Thanks a lot! Checking out Forming now, wow.

Really nice game, quite original! hahah
I would loved some higher contrast in some, but overall it was really fun
It reminded me my time as a child when i took the ceral box puzzles!

Thanks a lot! Love that cereal box puzzle vibe.

This is the first time I "played" a PDF file XD

I like the concept, and the story. It has so much personality. Love it.

There are controllers with really strong rumble, so building a high frequency blade with them is accurate!

The only criticism I have is regarding the contrast on some pages. Especially on the first real boss it is really hard to see the boundaries of the maze. On the next matches it got way better.

Again, super nice presentation and art style! Thank you!

Thanks for "playing", haha!

Awesome art style! It's pretty engaging to have the monochromatic background change colors each panel. That plus the hand drawn (marker?) art and the sense of humor made me chuckle a few times!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Yes I use grey markers on coloured paper, it's simple and in this day and age of AI art I quite like making stuff you can tell was drawn with ink on paper, even if it's janky haha.

What an awesome art style you have! This takes design and gameplay and mashed it up together into a really fun package! I felt like I was going through a really lively comic about the mech jam and it really made my heart happy, I've been in the mechjam for a long time and I think this an awesome addition to the mechjam family!

I remember Luke told me about making a magazine one time and I could imagine you having your own section with with how cool your style is and sense of humor.

Hope you keep making more stuff like this and inspiring others!

Thanks so much, glad you like it! I have a few other Morrison books that are also puzzle books with little stories, that's my jam at the moment. I guess I wish I was a gamedev but I don't want to learn programming, so I just do it all on paper, haha.

Really cool artstyle and theming !

I like how your entry turns the Mech jam into a friendly Mech sparring competition complete with fun pilot banter before the maze, fun stuff :D

I also like how you sorta did a “gameplay” constraint in that you cant take a path that’ll slice through the pilot’s pod as this isn’t supposed to be death duels, cleverly made.

Gotta be honest though, appart from sharing my thoughts i don’t really know what other feedback i could give for a physical game, but anyway.

Good job ^^

Thanks a lot! Yeah the pilot pod idea was when it all started to come together, traumatic childhood memories of the pods getting abused in Evangelion.

Dang i gotta say i didn’t even make the parallel when playing a page, but having seen Eva quite a while ago (at an age i probably wasn’t supposed to as well :p) indeed that puts the whole voiding the pod element into a new perspective XD

Love your artstyle! It's cool to see this type of game submitted for a game jam.

Thanks! I'm glad people still agree it's a game haha, mazes are games.
