That was quite sweet, I appreciate a little slice of life in the grimdark future. The last paragraph feels a little on the nose, maybe you could show us why he likes his life better than the one he could have had, rather than just telling us. Very good read overall!

I like that change of pace and tone from many of the other stories. Great work.

Nice little slice-of-life story. I do find it far-fetched that the child would allow "because" to be a good enough explanation, though. /s

I loved the relationships introduced by your characters.  Nice job!

It was a very digestible story, however I felt more like a setup than a complete story in and of itself (a HUGE struggle to overcome with these writing tasks). Overall great job however!

As an aside, a parent should never answer a child's question with because! It will only encourage them to do the same back! (only joking)

What a wonderful, adorable little vignette. I really love this.

A very original take on the theme and a well paced story.

I really enjoyed this one - a Star Trek style slice-of-life is such a change of pace for these kind of things, but it still respects the lore and character. Also, I wish my son would go to bed that easily.

Good ideas.

Consider POV. It should be clearer. Also consider some subtext in the dialogue. Leave some things unsaid but implied.
