I fell like this story just scratched the surface. It had an almost Star Wars feel to it, where the world building happens in the background. It still felt like it was missing some meat though, likely due to the length restriction. Great job. You created some characters to get invested in.

Well done. Good clarity and flow. Unique concept.

This was very well written and a fun exercise in tension. My only feedback would be the last paragraph wasn't needed. We definitely knew what was up without you having to explain it, well done

I really enjoyed that - what seemed like a very specific story was something else entirely. Two really fun twists - but I agree with other posters it could have been less in-yer-face at the end. Nice work though. The theme did feel like an incidental story beat but everything else was really cool.

Great story! Good concluding twist. I sort of wish the last paragraph was absent; I think the punch of Bayla's situation would hit harder if you trusted the reader to realize it themselves. Great story arc for under 1k words!

I realized the same thing after posting. The last paragraph was ment to be Jerome’s internal dialog so I should have at least italicized it. I really appreciate the feedback.

A rat on a catwalk? Great story, nice dark twist at the end. Some words repeat a lot, especially "as". Good story overall!

Thank you! I’d been looking for my problem words, but not having an editor made it difficult. I’ll work on it. Thank you again

That was... grim, in the end. I liked it.
