The game is quite fun.
I think you should telegraph the idea of not needing a plant for each column/row much clearer. For me that's what defines sudoku and you use it as a reference.
And I really think this could make a good mobile game. You layout already suggest that, and I think changing the roguelite elements for some daily progress and rewards might work even better.

I had fun with this. The music is very nice, and the menus and controls are well polished. The beginner puzzles were a great intro to the game, but I did feel like they went on a bit too long. Overall I felt like the puzzles were well designed, at least through 10 (where I stopped).

The game plays great on mobile and that’s worth highlighting! Not many games in this jam fit that category. I do wish it scaled up better on a PC. Once I got to the larger boards, I had to zoom to make it fit properly. I also had trouble scanning the board broadly as the shapes had poor visual definition, in particular between the triangle and diamond.

The roguelike aspect… it does not take away from the game necessarily, but it really adds nothing. If you aren’t going to randomly generate the boards, I would scrap it. The seed and shape puzzle design is unique enough, on top of your nice flower/planting theme.

This was a success overall! It’s a well designed puzzle game and I could see myself playing a lot of it with the strong mobile support. Great job.

Developer

Wow, thanks a lot! Super happy you enjoyed it, and level 15 is impressive! šŸ˜„šŸŽ‰

A fun puzzle game, but the "roguelite" elements make no sense to me. I get the choice of a hint or whatnot, but why the seeds. There is another a problem, a bigger problem, the rules of the puzzles make no sense. The first two rules are very similar to sudoku but hide a secret, it doesn't specify a row or column needs to have a seed. This is obviously seen in the first level where there's a 4x4 grid but you only plant 3 seeds. This means that for any level, you cannot assume any row or column has a seed. The third rule has a much bigger problem though, The third is that each pot type can only have one seed, not MUST have one seed but CAN. This means, by the rules of the game, planting no seeds should always be a valid solution. Obviously you don't win and so you might assume that they meant must and just wrote can, that is until you get to level 18 ( or around level 18). Here you have a 8x8 grid with 11 different pot types. There is no way to know the solution, you just have to guess.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing and for taking the time to write such a detailed comment!

You’re absolutely right about the third rule. I didn’t explain it clearly enough. What I meant by ā€œEach pot shape can hold only one seedā€ is that there should be exactly one seed per pot type, not multiple. I realize now that the wording was confusing, so that one’s on me.

As for the roguelite aspect, I explained my reasoning in a previous comment, but it seems it didn’t land well with some players, so that’s also on me, oops!

This is only the second game I’ve ever made, and I was so focused (and stressed!) on getting the coding and functionality to work that I wasn’t able to polish the experience as much as I’d like.

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback, I really appreciate it!

I really like sudoku and played your game for a bit over an hour. I reached level 22 and lost because I ran out of seeds. I always picked seeds when I leveled up.

Honestly, I didn’t fully understand the roguelite approach. I would keep playing, but the game already has a lot of content, and starting over from the beginning is a bit discouraging. Maybe you’re cooking with the roguelite idea, but that approach wouldn’t hook me personally. I don't want to play the same levels again (not sure if you randomize them or crafted them by hand), but I would play straight to the last level if i could.

The game is really great. Congratulations ! it’s very well made and polished, I had a lot of fun.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing and for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it.

The roguelite elements were added mainly for two reasons: to make something fresh instead of just another sudoku clone, and to try to make the game more fun and replayable. It’s a bit sad to hear it had the opposite effect for you šŸ˜…

And yes, the levels are all handcrafted, there are 30 in total. Since the game was made in just 7 days, I didn’t have time to polish and fine-tune everything as much as I’d like. Definitely lots I’d love to improve or rethink in the future.

Your feedback is super helpful, so thanks again for sharing it!

Wow, very good game. Fun, original, easy to understand... Just like another user mentioned, there have been times when I have had 3 colors appear on the screen. Good jobšŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ

If you want to try my humble game ;)

Interesting! May I ask what browser you're using?

A really nice game to exercise my brain. I don't know what kind of game is similar to this, but this is really easy to understand.

Excellent, well-polished solid puzzler! I might find myself coming back to this one, the shop is such a good touch and it's impressive that you managed to fit this all into the 7 day jam period! My one complaint - I wouldn't *technically* call this 1-bit, the buttons are a different color... just teasing!

i love sudoku so this game was so fun and addicting and so satisfying when you figure it out. Though some levels felt like you needed hints to get a starting point? And i was so confident i never chose hints LOL so i ended up dying after that point. so amazingly polished and one of the top games imo

If you have the patience to learn how the systems work, it's a pretty decent puzzle game. The UI / graphic design is the standout here.

A really creative and well executed idea! Very interesting to see another old traditional games getting a new life through a Puzzle/Roguelite lens! I have great fun playing. Would love to see what can be expanded gameplay-wise

A very polished game

A clever concept for a sudoku-like puzzle game, with strong presentation and interesting progression mechanics. Cool game!

Very strong entry! All parts of the game are great and it's the 1st game jam project  i see which has this "standalone" page.

really good game! Good UI, Good design, Good art and Good music. levels are interesting and fun! Though i think the health system is not nessesary, make an assumption should not receive punishment in a sudoku game.

Developer

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I get what you mean about the health system. I added it to make the game a bit more challenging, so you’d think more strategically when selecting an item. But I guess there could be better ways to add some spice.

Really nice! The music is so cozy and matched the relaxing gameplay. I think I would have liked if the shapes on the pots were filled to make it a little easier to see them at a glance.

Developer

Thank you! You’re absolutely right, I also felt the shapes on the pots were a bit hard to distinguish. Funny enough, it never really occurred to me to just fill them in šŸ˜… I definitely should have done that!

I really had fun playing this one. I really like the sound fx. I find so many games do an annoy error or wrong sound but yours fit the game very well>

Also your art is fantastic!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I’m really glad you enjoyed it
