Game Description
Procedural insect farm :)
How does your game tie into the theme?
Little procedural critters capture the essence of watching an ant farm, no risk of getting kicked out of the house tho :)

Excellent idea! Do you plan to write devlogs to explain how this works? Are speed, carry and luck the only parameters? :)
OH yes for sure, I have notes for every major commit for my jam games but atm i'm binging math and shader stuff so I can push out a more polished game for Brackey's jam that is coming up :)
Writing is super helpful to me, so it's something i need to do (eventually haha)
Cool idea! I think it would be cool if there was something else for the critters to do, like combat or building a little critter civilization.
Original plan was to make it more of a shop than a combat game. Customers would come in and request a critter with a specific stat spread (changed to a letter based system for more leeway than hard numbers) within X days, so the balance of the game would be keeping some critters vs using them for breeding which would disable collection for X days or selling them for gold to buy more.
Time constraints got me tho
Not bad, love the concept! Just 1 suggestion, the sound of picking up it's a bit annoying after a while tho, I would change it with a more "soft" sound
The shop is unintuitive and Despite some glitch like the critters soft lock themself or are stuck at a fruit, the concept and idea is here and cool. Good job
thanks for the comment :)
I have no idea where the softlocking came from and will probably have to revert to the exact commit the jam release came out of, it was introduced along the other bugs in the build, all because i wanted to add sound so imagine the spaghetti at that point.
im binging tutorials now so i can do better on the next jam, signed up for the Brackey's jam :)
Very cool idea, I liked playing it. The shop menu tho is a little unintuitive, I don't know exactly what are critters' stats or this successes thing? But I think there is something very unique that can be polished from this project.
Ty for the feedback!!
it's the jam curse :( almost all bugs were introduced on the last build i uploaded, which added sounds of all things hahaha.
I'm super new to godot and i couldn't reserve time to learn how to make the UI elements for the powerups ''drag and droppable'' and have pop-ups for the info that would explain how to make them work 🫠🫠this was more of a learning thing into procedurally generating geometry. Don't ask me if i can get past 50 on-screen critters with my current code hahaha🫠🫠🫠
Cool idea! A little jank and has some lag issues, but I like it!
Yeah, lag was going to be an issue on a range of devices I believe. As I'm taking the jams as learning opportunities, this was ''procedurally created geometry'' without using multimesh instances, so it's going to hit CPUs HARD. There are actually no sprites on screen besides the background tilesets. Every critter is 100% calculated and drawn, even the eyes. Every frame. Now I know how to do othat tho, so next jam, can be multimesh/meshinstance node learning :)
I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get my new critters that I just breed onto the field to work and stop being freeloaders who eat my pepperonis. I enjoy the idea of autonomous creatures and mixing the breeds to create some unique bug to fit some task I might need it to prioritize. On-screen guides or tutorials could help with this in a post-jam update and feedback on each creature's efficiency like how much they gathered for the day can help the player in knowing whats working well in the ecosystem and what isn't. Fun game!
tysm for the feedback!!
Sadly it seems the last build I uploaded broke the moddule that loads critters from the breeding screen back into the game 😭😭😭😭 They are still saved in your browser tho, if you reload the page, they should spawn right in... just not between days 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
Nice original idea! I like the fact that I don't really have to do anything in this game and seeing the counters go up is so satisfying! I had some bug where multiple critters tried to deposit something in the chest but kinda got stuck and never really went out to collect anymore. I really liked the idea, would be nice to see it expended more with more critters or some way of leveling your critters or something. Great job!
thanks a lot for the feedback! Ive been learning godot for around a month, glad to see someone else enjoying the work. Time got me but i had tons of stuff planned for this, im using most of the mechanics for a bigger pet based game i have planned down the line, ATM im doing jams to constrain dev time :)
The curses of gamejams! but very impressive for being a godot dev for just a month, keep it up!
