not having any sounds or music definitely hurt the experience, but the gameplay itself is pretty fun and I do like how the movement is implemented. the slow fall can be a bit annoying at times since you have to wait for your character to fall, maybe having the player slow fall only when holding down the jump button and falling fast otherwise be a better method.

Developer

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. Were you getting no sound at all? There should be a bass line, and sound effects on the checkpoint/door buttons. It’s definitely still a weakness of the game, mostly just asking if there’s a bug I need to track down.

HostSubmitted(+1)

maybe its an itch.io thing? Sometimes sounds/music for my game also dont load.

Developer

Weird but it’s not like I was going to win anyway! Thanks for trying my game

Totally not my type of game, but so, so well done. 5 stars.

Developer

Thank you!

As I first ran the game and saw pico8 I knew this was going to be a fun ride. I really liked that the disappearing platforms matched the music, the controls felt really polished and the levels are designed in a way that teaches you how the stamina mechanic works.

The only thing I find lacking was the use of the theme, it kinda felt like an afterthought though this didn’t make the game any less fun.

Submitted(+1)

sadly i am just hopeless with platformers, but this has a lot of style and pico8 charm ;)

Submitted(+1)

This was really cute and super well executed. The platforms changing state in time with the music was a really nice touch that made getting the timing right feel really rewarding. Really liked it!

Thanks for playing!

I didn't realise that platforms disappeared in sync with the music so I died a lot but that's on me haha Such a cool idea with this, I loved it once I realised what was happening.

Super cute little platformer, I had a lot of fun with it. And it's super nice to see a Pico-8 game on here! I'm very happy that there were checkpoints, I think they were very well placed.

The background music is so fitting and simple, it really sounds like bees buzzing, though I wish it was a bit more varied or longer maybe while keeping the beat, but I also understand it was a game jam, so the focus was on the game itself, which was more important. The controls are amazing so you did a great job!

I'd love to play a longer version, I love platformers and your game is super fun :D

Extremely fun, feels really polished, the segments are challenging without being annoying. The music could use some more variety, but otherwise, the only thing I dislike is that I can’t play it for the first time again.

Submitted(+1)

Simple, but very good game. I love the art style, and the mechanic of the "jump" that give some difficult. I like too that when plataforms are visible the music changes. It's a very good game, and it's a great achievement to have made it on Pico-8, which from what I understand is a very limited platform. Congratulations, 5 stars.

By the way, you have my humble game here if you want to try it too.

Submitted(+1)

Fun game! I especially liked how the music helps give a clue to players on when the platforms are visible or not, which I think makes the game more balanced. I think maybe the theme can be integrated more within the game, but overall this was still a neat game to play.

Cute game. I like the art and colors

So happy to see a Pico-8 game. Spectacular entry! Reminds me of Battle Block Theater. I played all the way to the end and the level design was spot on all the way through. Cheers.

P.S. The music was repetitive, would have loved to have some sound effects.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and the kind words. I can’t rave enough about PICO-8 - just a fun, capable toolkit/engine. My goal for next jam will be to focus on music/sound, as I agree completely. I spent probably half my jam time just tuning the bee’s movement. Glad you enjoyed playing.

I loved managing a limited movement mechanic: Tightly designed.

Developer

Thanks!

It's a really fun game. My favorite so far. I wish it was longer though. (っ,,- ‸ - ,,Ļ‚)

This surprised me! It’s really fun, you have a solid main movement mechanic here, that is also very lenient alongside the flower checkpoints.

At first I thought the music was of annoying, but then I realized it’s synced with the disappearing platforms! I think this is an incredible jam game, very clean and executes on all of its ideas very well!

Thanks very much for the feedback. I get your point about the music. It was always meant to be a funny placeholder, and towards the end of the week I decided to just lean into it instead. Glad you enjoyed the game.

Submitted

Oh, haha It’s good enough since the game is short, so you probably made the right decision!

(sub-5 minutes, 24 deaths). This game reminded me that game jam platformers can be more than just gimmicks, awesome level design. This is kind of a non-issue, but the spikes look kind of non-threatening so I jumped into them thinking they were grass a few times, but that's mostly on me.

Developer(+1)

Sorry about the spikes! To be honest I repurposed it into spikes - I originally drew it to be some leafy plant. Thanks for the feedback.

What a cute fun platformer! Very polished, and a simple idea executed well. Doesn't tie into the theme too much, but I liked it :)

Developer

Thank you!

A great short platformer that somehow is able to fit controller support into the limited time (but really should have the option to swap a and b for non-xbox controllers. Never the less, a really polished platformer with quite unique ideas (also it's funny you can get impaled by a platform spawning inside of you, nothing really happens but it's funny)

Developer

Luckily PICO-8 bundles controller support, and touch controls, out of the box. So I spent 0 extra time on that :) The downside is that it only supports 6 buttons. Controller settings is a good idea, I think I’ll add that after the jam. I wanted to give people a way to disable up-jump as well.

Thanks for the feedback!

I love PICO-8 games, and this one was SO creative! The movement felt perfect, loved it. Wish it was a tad longer, I had fun with it.

Developer

Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for playing

Victory! Fun little platformer. Great art and fun challenge. I keep telling myself I need to play with Pico-8 sometime, and your game is more evidence supporting that. Thanks for making and sharing your game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! It’s a fun engine, almost perfect for game jams since it’s all in one. I only really had two problems with it for this jam. 1) 128x128 screen size limits dithering options. 2) No network functionality means no leaderboard. There’s GPIO access through JavaScript, so there is technically a route.

There’s a free web edition if you want to mess around with it - https://www.pico-8-edu.com/

Wow nice entry! I like the color palette and challenges were often tricky but all doable and Im extremely grateful for the checkpoints. Nice job!

Thanks for playing!
