You definitely got the Nier vibes down. I like the piano in concept, but it sounds a bit robotic, especially in the start. I think if you varied the note velocity and timings a bit it would be better. The best thing would probably be to record on a MIDI piano (or a real piano). Maybe it also needs some reverb to feel like it's in the same space as the bells.

As an alternative you could do the Nier Automata main menu theme thing, where they play one normal piano and a reversed piano at the same time to make it sound kinda creepy.

Very good composition overall, though!

as for reverb its just positioned more forward and does have reverb... as i use parallel reverb to have finer control over every instruments reverb while only using 1 reverb chain for max performance and max fine tuning,  and it has alot of manual variation in velocity and expression, i think i see i may need to change to a brighter piano vst to make those variations cut through more and maybe add some not off-set randomization, i did automate the tempo to try make it more expressive too but i think its overwhelmed in the mix. and that reverse piano thing, I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THAT... THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!! ill definitely do it on another project

I think my favorite version is the one with the piano + reverb tail but honestly they're all great. Depends on what kind of a scene you'd be setting up; personally I feel like the one with the piano gives my imaginary boss introduction much more of a grandiose vibe than the one without.

Piano work very strong here. And when mixed with choir and strings, really good. Great use of bells for intro and throughout.

Hmm... I like it with and without the piano. They are different arrangements, both beautiful.

I think I prefer the piano-less version. The strings are so cool.

Sounds pretty cool, like a soundtrack for a some boss fight. I also like the version with reverb tail more :)

I'm thinking of turning this into a full  track

No piano with Reverb Tail is great!

this is basically boss music. Cool stuff

Developer

if anyone see's this do you think its better with or without the piano?

I like them both for different vibes! The one without feels like it's creating a space to set a really grand scene, and the piano version feels like you're telling a much more personal story

Developer

OoO... yeaaahh, the chaos of the piano part could be like in a more intense scene or have a build up where without the piano it can set the mood and pace
