Game Description
Scarab's Revolt is a 2D pixel art action game where you play as a scarab facing off against a fearsome praying mantis who towers over you. Learn her patterns and timings in order to best her in combat
How does your game tie into the theme?
My game prominently features critters performing critical strikes and maybe even a creepy crawly critter makes an appearance.

Ooooooooooof... did it finally. It took me at least 20 attempts. The game is very hard. The combat system is nice but the graphics aren't so good. The player looks rather like a witch than a scarab. The music isn't bad though. Well done!
Very awesome game!! The controls felt very responsive, and I think you were able to properly make it feel like you had to learn the boss to beat it!
Was pretty difficult but not in a frustrating way. Would've been a little helpful to have some sort of guide or controls breakdown (maybe I missed it, if I did my bad lol), but it took me a second to figure out how to parry. Overall though pretty fun! Love the art and the animation you did a great job!
Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to an in-game controls screen. I didn't even manage to find the time for a title screen, but let's just call that a thematic choice ;) . There's a table on the game's page that lists out the controls to try to remedy that lack of clarity as best as possible, though.
I wish the moves were a little more telegraphed, but a two tier boss-fight is pretty cool! Took me several attempts, but I got it. Good job (◕‿◕✿)
Getting more animation frames drawn out to telegraph attacks better was definitely a stretch goal I didn't quite get to as a pixel artist, I am not lmao.
Thank you so much for your feedback and kind words!
Games that put a focus on studying its contents to thrive in it, be it roguelikes, soulslikes or any other genre have always felt especially rewarding to me, so I really enjoyed this entry for its focus on studying the fight as you mentioned in the game description, I think you pulled it off nicely. Art and audio compliment the gameplay well too.
Thank you so much, I'm happy you enjoyed it! These sorts of games really live or die by the mechanics feeling right, so a lot of attention was put trying to make it feel less spammy and more responsive. I'm glad to hear that it paid off :)
