Here is my gameplay video if needed:
---Overall this is fun, and yeah I agree with other commenter that it felt pretty easy. Perhaps level option would be helpful especially for player who needs something more challenging. But overall, this is fun puzzle game, especially for a short session. :D
Thank you for the feedback and for playing on stream! :D
Actually, it's an offline recording session 😂
Ooo I see, awesome. Appreciate it either way haha :)
I played this game on stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2565553540?t=00h51m53s
Overall, the puzzles were nice! I had fun playing it. I reached a level where I got stuck at, even though I tried a few times. It also seemed that maybe I encountered a bug where the two moles combined into one. I think this game is great, the graphics are very well done. One suggestion would be an indicator for where the moles would go next. Sometimes the moles would have two flowers beside it and I wouldn't know which way it would go.
Thank you for playing on stream, for the feedback, and for the kind words!
I enjoyed watching the vod. :)
Yeah level 8 seems to be much harder than all of the others, sorry for that. "^_^
Ah yeah, we're aware of that bug.
An indicator for where the moles would go is a good idea!
This game is really pretty-looking and super polished! I wasn't quite sure about the title page image being at all attractive, as a gray mass looking at a brown logo isn't particularly thrilling. It was seeing the quality polished screenshots of the gameplay made me change my mind to play it. I think a change might attract more players.
I have similar critique as the others. I got bored by about the 4th puzzle as it was starting to feel repetitive, but I kept going up to puzzle 6. They're not bad puzzle ideas persay, as they might prove more helpful for younger players that might not be able to advance to higher ones? Or introduce new mechanics sooner.
This is my UI critique, but I might just be dumb. Perhaps being primed by other games, but usually when I'm missing an "item" I need to get, it's usually brightly lit, and the item/flower that I already have, turns dark so I know I already completed that particular one. I think it's an easier visual match of "what I need - brightly lit" matching the flower on grid is how my brain interpreted it initially. While it being "dark" I had to spend more time staring at the dark image and "guess" which one it is. It took more brainwork to process versus it being a quick visual match. I hope that makes sense! I'm not sure if you want to flip it and see if it processes better for other players (you'll have to watch them playtest it) but I definitely messed up for a while on the early easy puzzle as a result. Or having another indicator that I already got that flower with a green checkmark or something.
This one would be a bit of a doozy being a biology major, but... moles do not eat flowers LOL ^^; Gophers and voles do. Perhaps you could consider a color switch or a future mechanic for more enemies (or friends) as something to make it more scientifically correct. Moles are carnivores and can damage plants indirectly by lifting and damaging roots... maybe can drop invertebrates to attract moles to a certain spot to clear plants, move way from plants, or block smaller enemies (voles) can be future potential ideas to consider.
Thank you for the detailed feedback. :)
The difficulty curve is for sure bad at the moment, I don't blame you for getting bored. It seems we're losing a lot of players before a new flower is introduced (7th puzzle) haha.
The UI element for required flowers definitely needs changing, I like your checkmark idea for that.
TIL moles don't eat flowers. :')
I really wanted to get to the next flower but just couldn't be motivated enough fighting off cute moles. I'm reminded of the vegetable gardener who could not win against the gopher who kept eating parts of his small harvest... so he decided to feed the gopher. The gopher no longer ate the rest of his garden lol.
Perhaps if we had an extra reason why we were cultivating flowers it would be worth the work ^^; perhaps the player is a florist who wants to give flowers to others, so we have a visual reward for it. Or maybe they want to grow rare breed of plant variations that are on the brink of extinction, which is a real endeavor for some specialty gardeners. Well... feel free to ignore the feature creep advice lol. I have a feeling this game would do especially well for mobile someday (: Good luck!
Thank you very much! All very good suggestions and honestly don't necessarily increase the scope by much. :)
fun but way too easy, would love new mechanics to be introduced at an earlier stage
Thank you! 100% agree, we'll work on it!
Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
I love me some puzzles, and this is a cute idea for a puzzle game. There was one puzzle I found particularly challenging, as there was really only one way to do the puzzle; if even one move was off, you couldn't do it. At least that's how it seemed to me.
One thing I'd like to see in this is the ability to go back individual steps. That way, if you make a mistake and realize it then you can go back however many steps you feel like it was when you made the mistake instead of outright starting over.
Similarly, it'd be nice if there was a way to know which way the mole was going to go on its next turn. Sometimes it felt weird the direction the mole went as it didn't seem to prioritize certain types of flowers (for example, I would think the moles would focus on more grown flowers since they'd be more food and probably taste better yet it didn't seem to do this).
The last thing I feel is needed is that when you have a turn where you can't seed, instead of skipping to the harvest turn I'd like it if it required you to do an input. While I'm sure some would disagree, there are times where I found myself forgetting what stages a flower could see in and so I'd put my cursor over what I'd be expecting to seed, only for the controls to go straight to harvest and in my quick action I'd harvest it, forcing me to a restart. Of course, the go back a turn button would also help.
Beyond this, I caught a few bugs. First, the moles are capable of occupying the same tile. I assume this is a bug because it looks weird. Second, if you happen to hit the button to start the level multiple times on a level where there's tutorial, it's causes the game to bug out. When you try to proceed the tutorial, the whole thing breaks apart.
Hey, thank you for the detailed feedback!!
We'd love check out the VOD. please do share a link once you've posted it. :)
We agree that level 8 is currently significantly more difficult than the rest, we'll have to redesign most of the levels I think.
The moles are actually meant to move towards more mature flowers, as you suggested. But I agree that currently they move very unpredictably and something needs to be done about that.
We were not aware of the tutorial level bug you mentioned, thank you for pointing it out!
Really cool and cozy puzzle game!
Pros:
1. Beautiful Art and mesmerizing animations,
2. Cozy music that fits the theme,
3. Simple and easy to understand gameplay,
4. Good onboarding.
Cons:
1. After playing for a while I felt the animations as slow, making me wait for every action,
2. I would love some more depth and more mechanics.
Thank you!!
We appreciate the kind words and the very valid feedback.
We 100% agree with these points and hope to improve on them if/when we hopefully make this into a full game!
Impressive work for a jam game! If you plan on expanding the game further, I think the most obvious feedback I can give is probably that the levels should have something more going on that makes them feel distinct. After about 3-4 stages I felt like i was sorta just playing the same level again and again, with very small differences. For a jam game what you have is impressive, but for something more it'd be nice to see some other aspects to the levels themselves which can then be explored when paired in different combinations to make it so that there's more to consider and master.
The other main piece of feedback I have is that it'd be preferable to be able to complete turns faster. After the first half dozen turns, the fact that each turn takes like 10 seconds at a minimum due to the animations started to become somewhat irksome.
Good job with the game!
Thank you! Solid feedback, we agree with every word.
Nice looking and quite promising game. The art and effects are superb. Overall, the game feels quite wholesome and impressive for a product of a very short jam. Best of luck with your project!
Thank you very much!
Very cool take on the "loop" theme from the GMTK game jam, I could see this being expanded into a full game with more flowers, enemies, biomes/seasons, etc.
I would maybe just add the possibility to speed up the animation in between turns.
Thank you!! We appreciate the kind words and the valuable feedback! :D
