art/gameplay looks really nice and polished, very impressive making this during the jam period. I personally really liked the "combat", but it does drag on for too long at times, some simple tweaks and balancing shud round up the rough edges of this game.
I love the art of the game and the story and concept :D The fights were quite long though and, especially later ones really dragged out in length, but overall I really enjoyed it! The ending is great haha
I wasn’t expecting that ending haha, that was sad. The art and sound are great, congrats to the team! The gameplay is also really fun, I always enjoy card games. I did run into a problem though, both times I played in the browser (using Opera) the game froze on the second fight. I had to download it to finish, and I kept getting the strength upgrade every time. After the fourth fight I was defeating the enemies on the first turn
fantastic art and concept, unfortunately something odd happened to me and once i got to the card game section everything except the cards was a black screen? i'm not sure why
did you happen to play on mobile? Since it wasn't built for mobile it goes black for some reason when you try
Amazing game! It's so polished and creative, love it. I'd say for a card game battler like this, the thing that stuck out to me the most is how confusing the UI/UX was (sometimes I'd end my turn, opponent would do something, then the history on the left would clear fully?? I never really understood how well that keeps track), as well as some balancing things. Great game overall!
Thanks so much for your praises! Ya that part was definitely hard to explain, essentially it keeps track of things like buffs, debuffs and the most recent amount of damage the player or opponent received. Definitely would be improved upon if we decide to come back to this project! Thanks for your feedback!
The art is great! I wish there were ways to speed up the game at least a bit.
yup it definitely drags on during some fights... we tried to counter this by letting players keep their upgrades even after restarting so that the fights become easier and easier. Thanks for your feedback and praise!
Interesting take on the theme and very cool art, but I sadly couldn't make it past the third level without my browser tab crashing (likely due to a memory leak with audio if you published your game with Godot 4.4) so rating it based on that. I hope the narrative gets a little happier as the game continues onward XD
Thanks for your praises! Yes that is a new bug for us that we didn't occur playtesting until after our submission. Sometimes it happens, othertimes it doesnt? If we ever come back to this project we'd definitely look at that first. The narrative definitely gets... interesting haha! Come back to play it if your curiosity ever gets the better of you!
If you built the game with Godot 4.4 it's almost guaranteed to be https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/107390—I'm on a Mac and almost all web exports from that version of Godot will crash for those of us affected when the audio playback type is set to sample mode instead of stream mode. They merged the fix though and it looks like it'll be in Godot 4.5!
I wanted to enjoy this game, but in my opinion it overstays it's welcome. Fights are dragged out and can easily spiral into the opponent shelling up, causing fights to last minutes. Since it's impossible to edit your deck directly, you're stuck with bricks throughout the whole game, and due to the long battle length discards dry up quickly getting rid of them. The art and music is fine, and it's a creative use of the theme, but it's a bit of a slog as is.
Very valid criticism! If we had just a little more time we'd definitely be spending all of it on playtesting and tweaking user experience. We definitely had troubles balancing this type of game out and maybe in the future we'll come back to this project to fix it!
very well made game, nice art and music! also cool to see another card game!
Thanks for your praises! Absolutely love card games!
Nice approach to the jam theme! I really like the art style and the card-based gameplay idea.
Thanks for your praises! We worked really hard to make it work!
The game feels too complete for a jam (I’m not saying you used extra time), but rather that I can’t fully explore the idea. The gameplay takes more time than I’d like for a jam game. If there were a creativity category, I’d rate it 5 stars. The dialogues and the connection with current times, like the jokes, are excellent. Overall, it’s a 4-star for me.
Very valid! Playing through long games is definitely hard for game jams, especially when trying to give all the games fair ratings! Thanks for your feedback and praises! We definitely extended the scope of the game a bit tooooo far with this one, but was super fun!
OHHHH DAMMNNNN!!!! THE ENDING!!!!
I LOVE THE STORY AND CREATIVTY OF THEME IMPLEMENTATION!!!
Love the game, but I'm not really sure what's going on most of the time.. XD
Feels like the aura bar is not accurate.
Honestly, not much feedback can give for game improvement, the game is done really well.
Haha! We're glad you made it to the end!! Thanks so much for your praises!
Fun game! I think it's a bit on the nose with the dialogue, but the card effects were fun. The combat system was simplistic yet complex enough to keep me engaged, and the art was nice to look at (Though I do think the pixel sizes between the characters and the background was inconsistent). Game is responsive and very polished, but unfortunately when I got halfway through the student council fight, the game froze :( Kinda bummed about that because I wanted to play more. Either way, great submission!
Haha yup, we're definitely not writers here... very cringe to say the least.
Aw thats sad to hear! Yeah we ran into that bug after we submitted... It is so very odd, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't? We honestly have no idea and never ran into it while playtesting beforehand. If you ever get curious about the ending you should totally try again and hopefully have a better experience!
We're happy you enjoyed!
Bigitty Boom XD
I like the game XD
I completed the game and imo balancing is quite chaotic but is really fun because of that
I think insult upgrade is really OP
combined with aura burn, you will always won no matter what evade and inaccuracy you get.
skip is also OP because enemy can't do anything. It's like 100% win if timed correctly.
The big insult but big inaccuracy felt like an annoying card since it's better to just stack 3 normal insult card.
stacking defense also quite important as a backup since we can't always rely on dodge or negate.
I think other upgrades need to be adjusted more so player can't just spam insult upgrade.
Aura farming in this game is really great XD
by the way, I think the texts are a bit hard to read somehow :" maybe it's just me
Such a good take on the theme! Had a lot of fun reading the insults. I got stuck because my accuracy decreased too much with no way to raise it, and I was in a standoff with my enemy that would never end...
Love the interpretation of the theme here and the sense of humor. Love the conversational tone the dialogue. You have a great style, even with the limitation of 1 bit. Great work!
Amazing! Honestly wish this was made into a full game. My only problems were that sometimes the aura bar would just lie (like get completely emptied but i wouldn't lose, or the opposite), and the fact that the game is pretty easy, but other than that, congratulations man!
Yeah we noticed that issue with the aura bar, so in v0.0.11 we added a percentage indicator on the left side of the bar! And that should be the playable web build on our game page :D
oh ok then! I played the 0.10 downloadable version, so that's why. godspeed!
Wow, really impressive! Really fresh take on the theme and on card games in general too. Plus the visuals and the game feel for the cards themselves are great. One thing is the opponent's turn feels a little long, especially when they skip your own turn, feels like I'm waiting for a long while to play. Other than that though, love pretty much everything about it (genie's catch phrase included hahah)
What a terrific take on the card game. With a cool goal. Can't believe how complete this game feels. Looks great too and entertaining writing. I haven't yet but another game I want to go back to. A little quirky and the sounds didn't always line up in my head anyway but overall a deep interesting game with great aesthetic.
Great theme and polish all around. The art, music, writing, etc, is all top notch. I seem to be in the minority, but I found the card gameplay itself extremely punishing. Accuracy in a card game is a really frustrating mechanic, and the fights ended up feeling very long and grindy.
That said, the game overall is really well done. The overall presentation is one of the best I’ve seen so far. Great work.
Yeah we found balancing this game to be very challenging in the limited amount of time... We found so many problems with the accuracy and it used to be even worse LOL. I think we just like punishing ourselves as we played through it over and over again... Thanks for the feedback!
