I respect the commitment to 80s text adventure game aesthetics! And Adeline's single-minded quest haha. This was fun to try out, but difficult to commit to without more variety in the game mechanics. I wonder if it may become a stepping stone to a more immersive simulator game in the future?
So retro, let us have a moment of silence to pay respects to Adeline's absolute grindset of a mindset.
Would love to see this expanded on with visuals and sound effects!
Very interesting concept!
The visuals are also super reminiscent of old NES/DOS games. I really liked it and it was nostalgic. I would have preferred a bit bigger choices bar. The screen resolution was cutting edges in windowed but I F11'd into fullscreen and it worked perfectly.
The progression is ultra slow though, I think there could be more options for earning money or have the chores "chain" so they give you progressively more money. The inventory could also be reorganized a bit.
Loved the writing and the squishmallows names, very creative (unsure if they are the real life names or not, I only found out about them being a thing due to this gama haha)
Fun ideas, could use a bit more polish, progress is a bit too slow to fully engage me. Thank you for submitting! (and go buy more squishmallows :p )
I found myself quite addicted to the tappy gameplay after I figured out I needed to zoom out to see the game properly lol ! The colors and font made it a bit hard to read at times, but I think the gameplay is pretty solid. I wish we could see the specific chores she's doing or that different chores gave us more money but took longer and so on. I think you could potentially expand into Adeline's money-making schemes with her doing chores for other neighbors or starting schemes with other kids at school etc. Overall, I think this premise has a lot of potential!
The complete lack of visuals or sound hurts this game a little. The gameplay itself is alright, I wish I could click the buttons with my mouse, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get money outside of chores. Besides that the dialogue is well written, and it definitely fits the theme. Well done!
Cool concept and idea, just would have been better with more visuals, audio, and more to do. I did chores everyday all day for 6 days straight and my parents only got me 1.
This game is indeed about collecting all the squishmellows out there that starts with the name A. Just i feel like there should be way more way to get money, because i feels more like doing chores simulator, when i spent multiple days doing chores and there is like 200+ squishmellows, so with math it would take probably 100+ days just to get all of them. Although i love your dedication on getting over 200+ squishmellows here, that should have took a long time making all of those. Anyway Great job, i rarely sees a text based game in a game jam :>
Will these heartless parents ever buy me more squishmallows? I did almost nothing but chores for 10 days and that still wasn't enough for them to understand the righteousness of my mission.
After seeing the scope of the squishmallows available, I decided to lower my ambitions to collecting all the unicorns and unicorn-related squishmallows. Looking forward to the sequel where you collect all the squishmallows with names starting with B.
Love the concept! Intro dialogue is very funny, would love to see this fleshed out more in the future!
thanks for playing.
like most of my jam games, it will stand as a testament to the jam in which it was developed, and see no more updates.
but on occasion, somebody somewhere takes a liking and I occasionally revisit. Who knows?
i like it, i just wish there were more ways to earn money
i think there's definitely potential here to make an immersive sim type game, all text based
i wanna be able to work a job and sell my soul all in the name of Squishmallows!
Alas, schedule did not allow. I wanted to also have: trading with friends, going to rummage sales(which I literally did with my daughter within the timespan of the jam, and yes, 7 squishmallows were acquired), dumpster diving, going to a thrift store more complex chores list with different rewards based on which chore you did.
thanks for playing.
